Quitting protein powderRachel Hosie tried to hit her protein target while avoiding ultra-processed food. (Translation: No one knows what the heck is going to happen with Donald Trump in the White House again. But more on that in a moment…)“This is a happy plot twist for Disney,” Paul Verna, vice president at research firm eMarketer, told me. Of course, the third act of the hero’s journey has its own pitfalls, which Disney still has to navigate. “We, in many respects, have already consolidated,” Iger said on Thursday’s earnings call. As in any good final act, the journey should, at the very least, be entertaining.

If Kamala Harris' campaign was known for anything, it was its blockbuster fundraising. The overarching challenge at this point for what is left of Harris' campaign is that the financial picture is shrouded in mystery — even for those within the organization. What is even more unusual are the explosive clashes taking place in and around the Harris campaign universe. The requests have all been shut down and two Harris campaign officials told NBC News that the email list is not for sale. “We had some emails pre-scripted for a long fight,” a senior campaign official close to the strategy said.

AdvertisementLately, creative workers are increasingly chasing their Hollywood dreams in production hubs far from Hollywood. FilmLA, which issues permits for production in the region, found that Greater Los Angeles' share of US-produced TV and film projects declined from 23% in 2021 to 18% last year. Brin said Lexington had attracted 30 film and TV projects so far this year, representing more than $2 million in local spending. Actually being on a set is only one part of entertainment production. While the power of Los Angeles is dispersing, no single "new Hollywood" is coming to take its place.

A former body guard for Sean Combs has filed a defamation lawsuit against a woman who in September accused him of physically and sexually assaulting her in 2001. Joseph Sherman called the allegations in Thalia Graves’ lawsuit “utterly and entirely false,” in documents filed Thursday in federal court in Manhattan. She said Sherman had lifted her up from a couch, slammed her down on a table and Combs then raped her, according to her court filing. Sherman also slapped her multiple times and forced her to perform oral sex on him, Graves’ lawsuit said. Combs’ attorneys have vehemently denied the charges in the indictment and allegations in all of the other suits.

A lot of collaboration goes into sex scenes to ensure the actors and crew are prepared for filming. "What I find is that it's no secret that there have been problematic sex scenes in the past and problematic power dynamics on set, which can cause coercion, which can cause people doing things that they regret later or doing things that they didn't agree to," Rodis said. According to Rodis, giving actors the choice to walk away from a scene is part of "the pre-production work and making sure we know what to expect. Ita O'Brien, intimacy coordinator for shows like HBO's "I May Destroy You" and Hulu's "Normal People," agreed that preparation and collaboration between all departments are key to a successful sex scene. "It is about conversations with the producers, conversations with the director, then conversations with the actors, and conversations on with the wardrobe apartment," said O'Brien.

"Arcane," a television adaptation of Riot Games' "League of Legends," is back on Netflix. The gig was at Riot Games, a young video game company founded in 2006 that had launched its debut title "League of Legends" the year before. Film and television isn't Riot Games' primary business; video games like "League of Legends" are. A genuinely good television series like "Arcane" not only engages current players who may spend money on in-game cosmetics, but brings new eyes to the franchise. The real-life cosmetics, like the "Arcane" season two drop with Fenty Beauty, probably don't hurt either.

After playing to the coasts, Hollywood is leaning toward faith and family-based shows and films. The Prime Video series will be the first to come out of Amazon's deal with The Wonder Project, a Christian-focused production company, for faith-based films and TV shows. After playing to the coasts with shows that embraced progressive themes, Hollywood is leaning into broadly appealing fare. That shift has included a combination of undeniably faith-based, conservative-themed, and family-aimed entertainment, agents, producers, and industry experts say. "Conservative, faith-based, family, is not a bad place to look," Thompson said.

But multiplex owners are hoping that “Wicked” and “Gladiator II” achieve something close as the pink-and-green musical and the Colosseum-set action epic land in theaters on Nov. 22. “The industry is looking at ‘Wicked,’ ‘Gladiator II’ and ‘Moana 2’ as a Holy Trinity of moviegoing,” says Robbins. Overall domestic box office revenues are down more than 11% from 2023 and nearly 27% from 2019, according to Comscore. Newer attempts like Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story” remake, Chu’s “In the Heights,” “Dear Evan Hansen,” “Cats” and “The Color Purple” all fizzled at the box office despite being based on popular productions. “Gladiator II,” too, must prove to audiences there’s a reason to return to the arena a quarter century after the first film became a Colosseum-sized blockbuster.

AppLovin has soared 310% in 2024, beating every U.S. tech company with a market cap of at least $5 billion, according to FactSet data. The technology helps put more targeted ads on the mobile gaming apps the company owns, and works for other studios that license the software. They said the company's "real opportunity" is to catch the influx in brand advertising towards mobile gaming from more conventional channels like social media or legacy broadcasting. Because of its position in digital advertising, AppLovin faces potential competition from some of the most well-capitalized companies on the planet. In 2022, AppLovin gave up on efforts to buy gaming software developer Unity Software for $20 billion, after Unity shareholders rejected the bid.
