Tokyo, Japan CNN —When Kaneko Miyuki reported her sexual assault as a seven-year-old in Japan, she remembers the police laughing at her. Kaneko is among countless Japanese women who say their experiences of sexual assault and abuse were ignored because they “didn’t fit the criteria” of a victim. The previous age of consent, at 13, had been among the lowest in the developed world. It marks a major victory for sexual assault survivors and activists, some of whom have spent decades lobbying for these changes. “Survivors of sexual assault like myself cannot even work, or go about your life – you become mentally ill, and you can’t take care of yourself,” she said.

The Catholic country and homeland of Pope Francis approved a law allowing abortion up to 14 weeks in December 2020, part of a wave of liberalizing legislation around the region, even as the United States further north has seen abortion access tightened. In the official bulletin, the health ministry wrote that the measure would help avoid unintentional pregnancy by helping overcome "difficulties of access to health services, contraception supplies, and education" faced by some. "This removes an important barrier to access," Valeria Isla, director of sexual and reproductive health at the Health Ministry, told Reuters. The day-after pill is available without a prescription in at least 70 countries, including the United States. "For a long time it was thought to induce an abortion, which is not true," Gagliardi said, referring to the common criticism of emergency contraception from pro-life groups.

CNN —May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and this year it seems to coincide with a flurry of violent headlines. “One of the things that we underestimate as a society is how our global mental health impacts us as individuals. Some of them marked Mental Health Awareness Month by sharing advice and insight with CNN’s Elizabeth Belanger about what is working for their communities. CNN Hero Michele Neff Hernandez Sam Comen/CNNWe have to model good mental health care by learning about mental health with the same vigor we use to learn about physical health. It takes all of us to realize mental health needs to be talked about, not buried under the rug.

In the details of the data, the Fed said it extended $69.9 billion as of Wednesday via its discount window lending facility, versus $67.6 billion on April 12. Collectively, the shifts in emergency lending and other factors allowed the total size of the Fed's balance sheet to go down, hitting $8.643 trillion on April 19 from $8.665 trillion on April 12. Fed officials have underscored for some time now that they see the troubles that have driven the surge in emergency lending as limited to a few institutions. Thus far, they have said they see no reason to be worried about the ongoing high levels of emergency lending. But he also said it's not a bad thing for banks to use the discount window when they need liquidity.
Florida's Board of Education approved expanding the rules of the so-called "Don't Say Gay" law through 12th grade. Currently, the state bans lessons on sexual orientation and gender identity from kindergarten through 3rd grade. Ron DeSantis requested expanding the ban as he gears up for an expected presidential run. The current law is also the root of an ongoing feud with Disney, one of the state's largest employers and political donors. DeSantis has directed the chief inspector general to investigate the Disney board's move and vowed to take additional revenge against the company through legislation.
Bosses hate work from home because 'home' is for women

And the old way was clear: The office is for work, and the home is for — well, for whatever unpaid stuff it is that women do while their men are at work. Skeptical that work — real work — could be done at home, bosses quietly penalized the women who opted for flexible schedules by sticking them with boring assignments and denying them promotions. Embracing remote work is a good start, but it comes with risks of its own. Since the pandemic hit, I've heard a few CEOs liken remote work to opening Pandora's box. Women working from home are no longer the aberration — tradition-bound executives are.
The Fed sees a looming credit crunch. What's that?
  + stars: | 2023-03-24 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +4 min
March 24 (Reuters) - It's an old saw: A credit crunch is when your bank won't lend to you. In other words: a credit crunch is coming. But the credit growth rate has recently fallen below its historic average to a level that has often been associated with a recession. That was indicative of the lasting restraint that episode had on the recovery in credit and economic growth overall. That was the case 8-10 years ago when low oil prices triggered a credit crunch among U.S. oil fracking companies, weighing heavily for a period on overall commercial loan growth while consumer loan growth kept improving.
The sale of medical cannabis has been allowed in German pharmacies since 2016 — but several barriers to entry remain, including cost. "Patients, who cannot afford medical cannabis, may self-medicate with adult-use cannabis without medical advice. "An overall de-stigmatization of cannabis as a substance will also lead to a de-stigmatized medical cannabis market," Gallois added. The government is currently undertaking a review of its medical cannabis guidelines, including how it is prescribed and reimbursed under the country's statutory health insurance program. A 'domino effect'The plans come as cannabis legalization has fallen under renewed debate over recent years.

The OnlyFans creator said that she will sometimes dress like Diana at her fans' request. She customized a top and skirt to recreate Diana's "revenge dress," an off-the-shoulder black dress Diana wore to a 1994 event on the day her then-husband, King Charles, admitted to cheating on her.
REUTERS/Claudia MoralesBOGOTA, Feb 22 (Reuters) - Colombia and Bolivia will jointly ask the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs to remove coca leaves from its list of prohibited substances and accept the plant's traditional uses, Colombia's government said on Wednesday. "Bolivia and Colombia consider it is the moment to once again put this issue on the table," she said. "To remove the coca leaf - the leaf, not cocaine - from the prohibited substances list." Coca leaves are widely used in different countries in Latin America, especially by indigenous groups, to treat stomach aches and altitude sickness, among other ceremonial uses. Millennial bosses might be daunted by their new reports, but there's a lot they can learn from Gen Z. That may be why some millennial managers think of Gen Z as, erm, high maintenance. Insider spoke with management experts, career coaches, and members of Gen Z itself to reframe the narrative around how Gen Z is changing the workplace. Gen Z has no job loyaltyThe rap on Gen Z is that they're all a bunch of job-hoppers with no loyalty. Both millennials and Gen Z have done "a lot more" to destigmatize mental health challenges and normalize counseling and therapy.
Gen Zers don't stigmatize "job-hopping", according to a new study by Oliver Wyman. Indeed, 70% of Gen Zers who say they're "loyal" to their employers are either actively or passively seeking a new job, the research found. People born between 1997 and 2012, often called Gen Z, came of age during the pandemic. Gen Z views work in "a more transactional manner" than previous generations, and has a "lengthy list of demands," per Oliver Wyman's study. According to Oliver Wyman's poll, 85% of Gen Zers prefer a hybrid or remote work pattern.

Many fad diets are not actually sustainable or healthy — and some can lead to unhealthy obsessions and dangerous eating disorders. And critically, the majority of people living with eating disorders today do not fit the cookie-cutter stereotype of people with eating disorders. Among adults, people previously thought to be the least at risk for eating disorders — such as men, people over 45 years old and lower-income individuals, have demonstrated the most significant increases in eating disorders. As an eating disorder survivor, many parts of my story fit the eating disorder stereotypes. My journey with my eating disorder was long, and I struggled to get treatment during a time when eating disorder treatment programs were few and far between, and health care lacked mental health parity.
"We now have airtight, unimpeachable evidence that ExxonMobil accurately predicted global warming years before it turned around and publicly attacked climate science and scientists. Our findings show that ExxonMobil's public denial of climate science contradicted its own scientists' data," Supran told CNBC. They were surprised to discover is the extent and accuracy of Exxon's knowledge of climate science. That gave me pause, seeing quantitatively that Exxon didn't just know some climate science, they helped advance it," Supran told CNBC. "They didn't just vaguely know 'something' about global warming decades ago, they knew as much as independent academic and government scientists did.

Mexico is the world's deadliest country for media with 11 journalists killed so far this year, according to Reporters Without Borders.

Taylor Swift in her "Anti-Hero" music video. Did she not stand by the critique she was making with this specific scene and the song and music video altogether? Unfortunately, as Swift sings in her 2020 song “Peace,” she “never has the courage of her convictions.” It is a frustrating reality to contend with as a fan of hers. And she knows it, as she also sings, “it must be exhausting always rooting for the anti-hero” in “Anti-Hero.” It is, Taylor, it really is.
