Both Trump and Harris have rolled out pricey provisions without specifying how they would cover the cost. Semaglutide, the active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy, appeared to reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease in people with Type 2 diabetes, according to a study published Thursday in the journal Alzheimer’s & Dementia. Another study, published in August, found that semaglutide appeared to cut the risk of dementia in people with Type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is a risk factor for dementia and Alzheimer’s. The study found that patients prescribed semaglutide had a significantly lower risk for Alzheimer’s disease than those who had taken one of the seven other diabetes drugs. The biggest difference was seen when comparing patients who took semaglutide to those who took insulin: Semaglutide patients had a 70% lower risk of Alzheimer’s, the study found.

The number of wealthy collectors surveyed who plan to purchase art in the next year fell to 43% from over half in 2023. The median spending on art by wealthy collectors remains stable at around $50,000 a year, according to the survey. Higher interest rates also raised the opportunity cost of buying art, since wealthy collectors could earn an easy 5% or more from cash and Treasuries. Just as in the classic-car market, the art market is going through a generational shift that's created a mismatch between supply and demand. According to the survey, the high end of the art market, or works priced at $10 million or more, was the strongest before 2022.

☆ S&P 500 grinds higher to further record highs, finding little to fear in October

This time of year typically tests nerves, more so when — as now — an election is onrushing and the S & P 500 was already up 20% for the year. Since June 30, the equal-weighted S & P 500 has gained 9.5%, more than triple the Nasdaq 100's rise. A buyer at the mid-July S & P 500 peak of 5667 sustained a quick 8% tumble in three weeks. Goldman Sachs calculated VIX being this elevated with the S & P 500 calmly clicking to record highs is essentially unheard-of. Cash that's still yielding well more than inflation and bonds holding their value allow investors to shoulder higher equity exposures rather than rotating out.

Urban Outfitters is now staging a turnaround, with the ambition of finding the success of rivals like Abercrombie & Fitch. But while Urban Outfitters may be trying to pull off a turnaround at the same scale is Abercrombie’s, the action points of both differ. Urban Outfitters, meanwhile, has maintained its youthful appearance without doing enough to market toward the high schoolers and college students of today.
