ANKARA, Dec 8 (Reuters) - Finland's defence minister Antti Kaikkonen said the sooner Turkey ratifies its NATO membership bid the better and it would consider granting arms export permits to Turkey on a case by case basis. In an interview with Reuters after meeting his Turkish counterpart Hulusi Akar in Ankara, Kaikkonen said he could not foresee a timetable for Turkey's ratification of his country's NATO membership application. A leading Turkish politician from Turkey's ruling AK party said however the speed of ratification lay in Finland and Sweden's hands and how swiftly they met Turkey's requests. Earlier this week, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Finland must lift an arms embargo on Ankara as a condition to securing support from Turkey. LONDON, Dec 1 (Reuters) - China on Thursday accused a committee of British lawmakers visiting Taiwan of "gross interference" in China's internal affairs and threatened a forceful response to anything that undermines Chinese interests. The Chinese embassy in Britain issued a statement responding to the ongoing visit to Taiwan by British parliament's Foreign Affairs committee, calling it a "flagrant violation" of the one-China principle. China claims the self-ruled, democratic island of Taiwan as its own territory, part of its "one China" policy. "Moves of the UK side that undermine China's interests will be met with forceful responses from the Chinese side." The spokesperson said the visit sent the wrong signal to those who want Taiwan to be independent.

PARIS, Nov 9 (Reuters) - The rest of the world, namely countries in Asia and Africa, does not share the Western world's view of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, said the head of TotalEnergies (TTEF.PA) which has refused to drop its Russian assets. "The vision which we have of this conflict in the Western camp is by no means shared by the vast majority of the rest of the world," TotalEnergies' Chairman and Chief Executive Patrick Pouyanne told the French parliament's foreign affairs committee on Wednesday. Last month, TotalEnergies said it had received around $748 million in dividends from its Russian assets in the first nine months of the year. Unlike London-based rivals BP (BP.L) and Shell (SHEL.L), TotalEnergies has held on to investments in Russia, including minority stakes in gas producer Novatek and liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects Yamal LNG and Arctic LNG 2.
