For the second quarter, Zscaler expects revenue between $505 million and $507 million, above analysts' average estimate of $496.7 million, according to LSEG data. Zscaler also raised its annual revenue and profit forecasts. The company's annual revenue is now estimated to be between $2.09 billion and $2.10 billion, compared to its previous forecast of $2.05 billion to $2.07 billion.

The Leonid meteor shower is due to peak between Friday night and the early hours of dawn Saturday. The Leonids could offer up to 15 fireballs an hour, per NASA. AdvertisementThe Leonid meteor shower is peaking tonight and could offer skygazers around the world the chance to see up to 15 fireballs an hour. The viewing conditions should be "quite favorable" as the moon will be in its first quarter, so it is unlikely to outshine the meteors with its glare, the Royal Museums Greenwich said on its website. While NASA states the Leonids usually offer up to 15 fireballs per hour, the Royal Museums Greenwich is slightly less optimistic, as it expects only up to 10 fireballs an hour.

The challenge for Frankel’s video is to do that in the train hall, and it can’t. Frankel’s piece matches our expectations for screen-play rather than transcending them, which means we’re not likely to notice it at all. Like lots of critics, curators and artists, I’ve always thought it made a lot of sense to insert video art, or art of almost any kind, into our everyday lives and communal spaces. And up on the screens at Moynihan, Frankel’s piece functions, whether he wants it to or not, as another ad for us to ignore. But would corporate titans stand to see their ads screened alongside art that’s wild enough to outshine them?

U.S. retail sales for last month came in much stronger than expected on Tuesday, signaling shoppers were not deterred by sticky inflation. Before the opening bell, the government reported September retail sales rose 0.7% from the prior month — more than double the estimates. Measuring year over year, the 3.8% increase in retail sales was still slightly higher than the CPI's advance of 3.7%. The retail sales data pointed to a resilient economy despite inflation still running way above the Federal Reserve's 2% target. He writes that its a terrible idea for companies to have employees interview their future managers. Unfortunately, management had likely already evaluated the existing team members and determined that none of the existing employees qualified for the position. This creates a bit of tension and raises questions about how the existing employees may evaluate the candidate. It's difficult to say if they'd be truly objective and pick the most qualified candidate, the least qualified candidate, or simply someone they like the most. This means that instead of picking the most qualified candidate, the existing team members may pick the most likable candidate.

"Get there early to ensure you catch the sunrise" on Enphase Energy , said Seaport Research Partners. Enphase shares have tumbled more than 53% in 2023 amid a difficult year for the residential solar energy market in the U.S. California, which is the largest market for U.S. residential solar installers, also instituted a policy change that reduced a subsidy for solar panel owners for sending excess power into the grid — further impacting demand. However, Curran thinks the U.S. residential market could show an "incipient recovery" by the end of the second quarter next year. "By next June, we believe three positive factors will converge to form a rebound in U.S. home rooftop solar demand," said Curran.

Mercedes is headed for the release of a new EV that gets more mileage on a single charge than Tesla. AdvertisementAdvertisementThe mileage range of a new fully electric car from Mercedes could easily outshine that of any Tesla. Its current range on a single charge, Mercedes says, is 466 miles, beating by about 70 miles the longest proposed range of any Tesla, the electric car company run by Elon Musk. "This car is extremely important for innovation reasons and to push the limits for what we can do with a series car." Some Tesla drivers have noticed that the range they could actually drive on a single charge was often half of what was promoted by the car company.

This, regulators say, makes it harder for banks to cut costs and absorb losses in a downturn. But many bankers are expected to resist swapping guaranteed pay for potentially higher bonuses, which can swing wildly across economic cycles. UK Finance, the industry body for banks in Britain, did not respond to the public consultation, leaving individual members to comment if they wanted to. Others warned against overplaying the significance of bonuses in Britain's battle to grow its financial sector, still reeling from the loss of big-ticket listings, such as Arm Holdings. "Compensation is a small point in the grand scheme of things of a vibrant financial sector.

Republican presidential candidate and former U.S. President Donald Trump campaigns at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines, Iowa, U.S. Aug. 12, 2023. Gone was the helicopter, but Donald Trump on Saturday renewed his reputation for defying norms and creating a mega-celebrity spectacle at the Iowa State Fair. Ron DeSantis, Trump's main rival with more than five months until Iowa's leadoff caucuses and who was on the fairgrounds at the same time. Cheers of "Trump, Trump, Trump," erupted at the three stops the former president made — in a blue suit, but this time in an open-collared shirt — trudging shoulder-to-shoulder crowds, waving a porkchop on a stick, a rite of its own. Though so much of Trump's stop was out of the ordinary, at the pork tent, he bowed to state fair protocol.

For the unlucky few who experience shark attacks, the ordeal is undoubtedly terrifying. Yet every summer, stories about shark attacks top homepages. Unlike shark attacks on humans, which are mainly attributed to curiosity, we know exactly what we’re doing. Throughout, the great white is characterized as a dogged predator obsessed with human flesh. I’d never suggest that the victims of shark attacks had it coming, or that cinemagoers should feel an iota of shame.

But recently, managers are starting to prize a different trait: agreeableness. In situations with high levels of uncertainty, agreeableness has shown itself to be an asset, according to a new study published in Collective Intelligence. All study participants took a 242-question personality assessment, which recorded how much of each of the Big Five personality traits they might have. The Big Five personality traits are: NeuroticismExtraversionOpennessConscientiousnessAgreeableness Neuroticism decreases team performance, according to the study, especially when uncertainty is involved in the group task. Past research on agreeableness, though, has shown the trait to be "mostly irrelevant" to completing tasks, Peterson says.

In “The Slip,” Prudence Peiffer’s tenderly researched group biography, six visual artists in different seasons of life and seeking different aesthetic ideals met Barr’s challenge with an unlikely spirit of concert. Beside him is his art school friend Jack Youngerman, painter of shaggy color fields in organic, almost floral forms. Grown bored in postwar Paris, the Jersey boy and the Kentuckian relocated to the abandoned sail-making lofts of Coenties Slip, an old manufacturing block in the toe of Manhattan. From 1956 to around 1964, an artist colony and some truly epochal art took shape there. That scene has long fascinated critics but never been the subject of a researched narrative history until now.

Meta launched Threads social media platform — its answer to Twitter — on Wednesday. 10 million users signed up for Threads in the first seven hours of its launch, per CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Analysts say it could be tough for Threads to outshine Twitter's existing power user base. And even though Threads launching at an advantageous time, at least four Wall Street analysts say it could be challenging to outshine the incumbent. After all, it could be difficult to get Twitter users to move, Billy Duberstein, a portfolio manager at Stone Oak Capital, wrote on the Motley Fool website on Wednesday.

In its latest global economic outlook report, the OECD predicted India, China and Indonesia would top gross domestic product projections for 2023 and 2024. The OECD added that looser monetary policy in the second half of next year will help household spending momentum return. The report added that it expects OECD countries' average headline inflation to fall to 6.6% this year, after peaking at 9.4% in 2022. 'Fragile' improvementStill, the OECD warned the global economic recovery remains fragile as central banks continue to tighten monetary policy, which could lead to stress in financial markets. Asia remains brightWhile the global economy could slow down further, Asia is expected to remain a bright spot as regional inflation is expected to remain "relatively mild," OECD says.

Ron DeSantis has said little publicly about the six-week abortion ban he signed this year or about former President Donald Trump. “Some people are at six weeks, some people are at three weeks, two weeks,” Trump told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins. “Without me there would be no 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 15 weeks, or whatever is finally agreed to. MSCI's Europe index, for example, still trades more than a point below its average historic valuation - with the index priced at less than 13 times its 12-month forward earnings. The top sectoral weighting in the STOXX Europe 50, for example, is healthcare - at almost 23%. With British-based stocks the biggest country weighting in the STOXX Europe index at 26%, the other top four sectors in the index include the food, beverages and tobacco grouping, consumer products, industrial goods and energy. The dollar peaked late last year against most European currencies as the Federal Reserve raced to ratchet up interest rates. Some think the slide in the dollar index of some 12% since last September is barely half of the whole move.
