Kari Bingen director of the aerospace security project and senior fellow in the international security program at the Centre for Strategic International Studies. Space-based anti-satellite nuclear weapons — or so-called space nukes — are a type of weapon designed to damage or destroy satellite systems. "It's an indiscriminate weapon," Bingen said. The deployment of a space-based nuclear weapon would mark a major advancement of Russia's military capabilities and a serious escalation of geopolitical tensions. Biden made it clear he respected the role of a free press in a democracy and did not berate reporters in White House press conferences, nor did his administration suspend journalists’ credentials, as his predecessor’s did. But as the press has focused recently on Biden's age and memory, the president and his campaign team have become more confrontational. When Doocey asked how "bad" Biden's memory was, the president said, "My memory is so bad I let you speak." Kristi Noem on the air, "seconds after trying to criticize President Biden’s memory." Young voters could be pivotal in an election year where the race is expected to be very close between presumptive nominees Biden and Republican front-runner Donald Trump. While young voters tend to favor Democrats, even a small drop in turnout among those voters – or a shift toward Republicans – could make a dispositive difference in battleground states. Biden has a dramatic disadvantage, compared with Trump, on the economy, even as young voters report overwhelmingly that their own financial situations are solid. That's on track with Biden's performance among young voters in 2020, when exit polls showed Biden took 60% of the youth vote, compared to 36% of young voters who voted for Trump. The data on young voters reflects a trend other polling has shown throughout the campaign season: Americans are unhappy with the ways things are going and don't want a Biden-Trump rematch.

Australia Says AUKUS a Response to Arms Race, Not Fuel for It

SYDNEY (Reuters) - The Indo Pacific region is in the midst of a substantial arms race that Australia is responding to, not fuelling, with its planned acquisition of nuclear-powered submarines, Minister for Defence Industry Pat Conroy said on Tuesday. The $245 billion AUKUS project with Britain and the United States to build a new class of nuclear-powered and conventionally armed submarine has been criticised by China as having the potential to spark an arms race. "The arms race is the greatest its been since 1945, and that is why I reject assertions... that Australia is somehow fuelling that arms race. "Conflict is far from inevitable," he said, adding that Australia cannot afford to under-invest in defence. Australia's nuclear-powered submarine fleet will be used for intelligence gathering in peacetime and to strike enemy targets during a war, Conroy said.

That law, supported by Biden and congressional Democrats, created tax credits to boost domestic EV manufacturing. "The point is that they're manufacturing jobs, whether they be baskets or batteries." A Trump spokesperson pointed Reuters to a recent policy announcement in which the former president said EV manufacturing would harm workers. Biden's campaign pointed Reuters to a statement from Kevin Munoz, a campaign spokesman, who said Trump's plan would mean more Chinese EV manufacturing jobs and fewer American jobs. Esports joins Pan Am Games, but medals won't count

But any medals won will not be added to their country's official total as they were at the recent Asian Games where esports had full medal status and was one of the most popular events drawing huge enthusiastic crowds. Like the Asian Games the Pan Am competition will be closely watched by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as Esports makes a push for a spot on the Olympic programme. While esports is making its Pan Am Games debut, gamers have been part of many other multi-sport competitions, including the Commonwealth and the European Games. One reason esports medals are not being counted at the Pan Am Games is that gamers are not subject to doping controls like every other athlete in Santiago. Authorities in Hangzhou ploughed $627 million into building a new esports venue while the Pan Am Games competition will be staged in a tent in a grassy corner of the Games fan zone.

The government should reduce the interest rate on federal student loans, and forgive any that's accrued. Half of Americans support forgiving up to $20,000 in federal student loan debt, a figure that soars to 83% among those who have student loans. Forgiving all student loan debt still maintains 39% support, a remarkably high figure for a fiscal policy that even a decade ago would have been an utter non-starter politically. Americans owe just south of $1.6 trillion in student loan debt. As a result, an equitable solution is this: retroactively adjust the interest rate on federal student loans to be at or near zero.
