The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, or FDIC, has a "patriarchal" culture, according to an independent report. The bank regulator took no action on dozens of harassment complaints and moved wrongdoers around. The report said the FDIC has dismissed myriad harassment complaints and that wrongdoers are moved around internally or promoted. AdvertisementThe independent investigators spent nine pages discussing FDIC chairman Martin Gruenberg's conduct. The FDIC did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider sent outside standard hours.

"The impact of the Baltimore port stoppage on construction and contractor supply chains may be significant," said William George, director of research for ImportGenius. "For cargo already on water, we will omit the port, and will discharge cargo set for Baltimore, in nearby ports. COSCO announced Wednesday morning that its services would "be concluded" once the diverted container arrives at the alternate port. Out of the diverted ports, New York/New Jersey and Savannah, are included. Kansas Republicans are coming under fire for holding a fund-raiser on Friday evening at which attendees physically assaulted an effigy resembling President Biden, according to video footage shared on social media over the weekend. A video of the event shows attendees hitting and kicking what appears to be a body opponent bag — a lifelike mannequin with a head and torso often used for self-defense training — with a mask resembling Mr. Biden’s face. The mannequin was dressed in a T-shirt that said “Let’s Go Brandon,” a phrase understood to be code for swearing at Mr. Biden. Attendees also appeared to hit karate breaking boards that had the same derogatory phrase. That footage, originally posted on the online video platform Rumble, according to The Star, has been taken down, but clips have been shared by accounts like “Republicans against Trump” on X.

(AP) — Lefty Driesell, the Hall of Fame coach whose folksy drawl belied a fiery on-court demeanor that put Maryland on the college basketball map and enabled him to rebuild several struggling programs, died Saturday. Driesell was inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2007, but his entry into the Naismith shrine proved more elusive. He went 9-14 in his debut, one of only two times over an entire season in which he would finish with a losing record as a college coach. The circumstances provided the inspiration for Chinn’s directorial debut, “Suncoast,” starring Nico Parker as the teenager in question and Laura Linney as her mother. “It’s important to know that while Kristine is certainly archetypally based on Laura’s mother, while there may be some similarities here and there, I was not intentionally playing her mother,” Linney said. “It’s really a perfect song,” Chinn said,The “Suncoast” world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival last month was a teary occasion. "If so, we expect the soaring freight rates and equipment shortage will continue till the third quarter," it advised clients. This would be on top of the revenue lost by diverted container vessels which are required to pay between $500,000-$600,000 per transit. "However, given the longer transit times vessels are experiencing, the market may face a shortage of empties across Asia until sailings normalize." Evelyn Fornes, Home Depot spokeswoman, said it is working with logistics carriers to find alternate routes to limit any impact from the Red Sea conflict. But Sinatra returned two years later, to much ballyhoo and chart success, with the album “Ol’ Blue Eyes is Back.” Bowie was paying attention. “David was a big Sinatra fan,” his former manager, Tony DeFries, recently told Mojo magazine. Bowie’s retirement was a ruse, DeFries added, to generate publicity and whip up demand for a headlining tour of big venues in the United States. It worked; in 1974, Bowie played arenas across the country, including two shows at Madison Square Garden. After Bowie retired in 1973, then unretired in 1974, he retired a second time in 1975.

Be warned: Flights are getting bumpier
  + stars: | 2023-11-22 | by ( Michelle Mastro | ) www.businessinsider.com   time to read: +9 min
Air turbulence is becoming more common and more intense. As the jet stream buckles a bit because it's not as strong as it was in the past, now you have all this energy associated with the jet stream up 30,000 feet or so. But changes to the atmosphere mean these corridors are getting bumpier, so avoiding them could result in smoother flights. But while we can get better at avoiding air turbulence, we won't be able to avoid it altogether. That's why some companies are going back to the drawing board to design airplanes that can better adjust to turbulent air.

"I believe that politics and markets will adjust, and that is also necessary in order to keep up the pace of offshore wind developments," Paal Eitrheim told Reuters on the sideline of the Norwegian company's autumn conference in Oslo. The offshore wind industry has found itself in a perfect storm of rising inflation, interest rate hikes and supply chain bottlenecks, in some cases leading to project cancellations as support schemes failed to adjust. Similarly, Britain has adjusted the price for next year's renewables auction higher by 66%, after failing to attract offshore wind bids in the previous round. Equinor is considering extensions to existing offshore wind farms in Britain that could qualify for auctions in future, and Eitrheim defended higher prices in the near term after over a decade of cost reductions. "Although it's dramatic right now, I think, as we are building this supply chain, we are going to come back to a price level for offshore wind that is competitive for governments, for companies and also consumers."

Earlier this month, she said the U.S. offshore wind industry was "fundamentally broken" after BP wrote down $540 million on its wind power projects offshore New York, blaming inflation and red tape that meant projects ran over budget and over time. Globally, the renewables sector has been undermined by slow permitting, technological challenges, rising raw material costs and higher costs of capital. As BP seeks to guarantee it can meet its internal returns target of 6% to 8% on renewables projects, Dotzenrath said BP was working out how to reduce costs globally. You need one of the local energy suppliers to help you push ahead with the permitting processes and establish the onshore grid connection," she said. BP does not produce electrolysers, which split water to produce hydrogen, but Dotzenrath said did not rule out greater involvement.

REUTERS/Brendan McDermid/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsNov 16 (Reuters) - New York State will issue a new offshore wind solicitation on Nov. 30 with bids due in January 2024, the state government said, in a move that should support the troubled industry. This would allow the companies to re-offer their planned projects at higher prices and exit their old contracts. Those measures included the expedited solicitation for offshore wind and other renewable projects announced on Thursday. The offshore wind projects that the companies are developing are Orsted's 924-megawatt (MW) Sunrise, and the joint venture between Equinor and BP's 816-MW Empire Wind 1, 1,260-MW Empire Wind 2 and 1,230-MW Beacon Wind. In a positive sign for the companies, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) on Oct. 24 awarded three offshore wind contracts at much higher prices than the earlier projects bid by Orsted, BP and Equinor.
