WASHINGTON, Nov 14 (Reuters) - The United States would like to see an evacuation of patients at Gaza hospitals to get them out of harm's way and will support an independent third party to conduct those evacuations, U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said on Tuesday. "We want there to be safe evacuation for patients in hospitals so they can get out of harm's way. We would support an independent third party, a respected third party to conduct those evacuations," Miller said. The question is will Hamas allow patients to be evacuated from hospitals or will they continue to use them as human shields?," Miller added. Israeli forces have surrounded Gaza City's Al Shifa hospital, which they say sits atop an underground headquarters of Hamas militants.

Once the generators stop, hospital director Iyad Abu Zahar fears that the babies in the ward, unable to breathe on their own, will perish. Doctors treating premature babies across Gaza are grappling with similar fears. At least 130 premature babies are at “grave risk” across six neonatal units, aid workers said. Limited fuel supplies inside Gaza were being sent to hospital generators. To ration dwindling supplies, Muhanna said all scheduled operations were stopped and the hospital devoted all its resources to emergencies and childbirths.

NANDED, India, Oct 3 (Reuters) - Twelve infants died in one day at a hospital in the Indian state of Maharashtra, sparking a political storm on Tuesday with opposition politicians accusing the regional government and hospital authorities of negligence. "My brother's one-day old infant died on Sunday at the hospital, and he was the fifth baby to die. We saw four more babies die in front of us," said Yogesh Solanki, whose family brought the baby to the hospital. The dean of Shankarrao Chavan hospital, Shyamrao Wakode, did not respond to a Reuters request for comment on this allegation or opposition accusations of negligence, saying in a brief phone call that he had no time because a government minister was visiting the premises. In Shankarrao Chavan hospital on Tuesday, patients crowded the corridors and pigs roamed the premises outside, underlining the disarray at most government-run hospitals in the world's most populous country.

Killer whales have been killing great white sharks off South African shores. But lately, there's been a mysterious disappearance of great white sharks in these waters. AdvertisementAdvertisementFor years, great white sharks were turning up dead on South Africa's False Bay and Gansbaai shores missing something crucial — their livers. The tourism industry in Gaansbi, South Africa relied on the large population of great white sharks found in the area. In North America, for example, at the Southeast Farallon Islands great white sharks have been recorded fleeing from hunting areas after killer whales showed up.

CNN —Veteran apartheid-era South African politician and Zulu prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi has died aged 95, the country’s president announced Saturday. The Zulu chief, a controversial figure who had a seat on South Africa’s National Assembly and a long political career, led a movement that underwent deadly clashes with the African National Congress (ANC). Buthelezi and his liberation movement Inkatha ye Nkululeke ye Sizwe clashed with the African National Congress (ANC) over many years, particularly throughout the 1980s during rebellions against apartheid. He became a member of the Youth League of the ANC while studying at South African Native College (now the University of Fort Hare), but was expelled for his political activities. Buthelezi won a seat in the National Assembly, and was appointed minister of home affairs in ANC leader Nelson Mandela’s coalition government.

The training will begin after the pilots receive English language training next month, Pentagon spokesman Brigadier General Pat Ryder said. Several pilots and dozens of aircraft maintenance crew will take the training, Ryder added. Denmark has begun training eight Ukrainian pilots in flying F-16s. U.S. President Joe Biden endorsed training programs for Ukrainian pilots on F-16s in May.

Warmer seas could be making fish forgetful. Now, a new study suggests for the first time that high water temperatures can cause memory loss in reef fish, and even render them unable to learn at all. Tropical fish live in complex environments and they’re constantly faced with decisions: What to eat, whom to fight, where to go. A lot has been done to understand how heat can kill fish, Dr. Luchiari said. But there’s relatively little research on how heat affects learning and memory in tropical fish that manage to survive high temperatures.

"The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region," it said in a statement. The move could irritate Beijing, which repeatedly demanded the United States - Taiwan's most important arms supplier - halt the sale of weapons to the island. The $500 million is the maximum potential value of the contract and the actual dollar value will be lower, the Pentagon said. The United States unveiled a Taiwan weapons aid package worth up to $345 million late last month.
