Read previewOpenAI's office in San Francisco is crawling with undercover security guards who don't take kindly to questions, locals say. Photographers for The San Francisco Standard, an online local news outlet, said they recently noticed what looked like undercover security guards standing outside the company's office. OpenAI first moved into its 59,000-square-foot office in San Francisco's Mission District in July 2023. Iain Langlands, a cashier at a pet store just one block from the office, told the Standard that the "vibe" surrounding the OpenAI office is "secretive." California's Bureau of Security and Investigative Services — which issues security guard licenses — did not immediately return Business a request for comment from Business Insider.

Read preview"All That" star Lori Beth Denberg is continuing to speak out about her negative experience at Nickelodeon and demanding accountability from the executives who were silent when she flagged concerns about Dan Schneider. In the interview, Denberg detailed the power imbalance in her dynamic with Schneider, the head writer of "All That," and said that he put her in several uncomfortable and inappropriate situations. Real accountability is what I'm speaking up for, so it doesn't continue to happen," Denberg added, tagging the Instagram accounts for Robbins, Hecht, Paramount Pictures, and Nickelodeon. Matt Sayles/Invision/APFollowing the conversation with Robbins, Denberg said that she had a meeting with Hecht, the then-president of Nickelodeon Entertainment, in 2000. Denberg didn't tell Robbins or Hecht about her sexual encounters with Schneider but reiterated her concern for Bynes.

Schneider told Denberg that he should have been the one to have that conversation. "I feel like that is the first time he preyed on me," Denberg told Business Insider. "Nobody thinks it is their responsibility" to protect the people working at Nickelodeon, Denberg said. According to Denberg, Schneider would refuse to write her jokes for the segment until the last minute, forcing her to perform live without rehearsing. Denberg said she cheered up Bynes, then told Schneider that he couldn't change "the little girl's lines on the spot."

It's still sitting unused in a drawer, with other gift cards that I haven't touched. "Oh, I will," I responded, thinking of the other massage gift certificate from my birthday that was still tucked in my desk drawer, gathering dust. The massage gift card from last year sits on my dresser in a pile of other plastic cards that were cluttering my purse. Well-meaning gift-givers bestow us with restaurant cards, manicure gift cards, and even more grandiose gestures such as weekend getaways. For all gift-givers looking to show their mother how much they love them with such a gift, think of it like an all-inclusive resort.

Jennifer Forness spent last Mother’s Day in tears. Because her husband had to work, Ms. Forness, an executive assistant who lives in Mount Pleasant, S.C., took their son, now 2, to visit her parents who live outside Philadelphia. For Mother’s Day this year, Ms. Forness, 36, and five girlfriends who are also mothers, are planning to check into Wild Dunes Resort, a hotel about 16 miles east of Charleston, for an overnight stay. “And we are going to have drinks.”Mother’s Day has long come with connotations that mothers spend it with the very people who made them so — and it usually involves brunch, cards and flowers (or floral prints). Yet some mothers are shedding those expectations and doing whatever they want — including shedding their families.

Three former students have filed suit, saying a SoCal school district failed to protect them from "rampant" sexual abuse. AdvertisementA group of sexual abuse survivors have filed suit in Los Angeles Superior Court, saying their high school district failed to protect them from predatory teachers for years. Administrators failed to properly supervise employees, the lawsuit claims, and repeatedly "ignored and concealed the sexual abuse of minor students." "It's about protecting the interests of the school district over protecting children." After leaving a job as PE teacher in the Lake Washington School District outside of Seattle, Scott Nelson was coaching basketball in the Issaquah school district.

The television producer Dan Schneider filed a defamation lawsuit on Wednesday against the creators of the documentary series “Quiet on Set,” which aired accounts of sexual abuse and other inappropriate behavior on sets at Nickelodeon, where Schneider was once a star creator of content. The five-episode series, “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV,” included interviews from former employees who denounced Schneider as a boss and objected to sexualized humor in his shows, leading him to release a video in March in which he apologized for some of his behavior on the job, such as soliciting massages on set from staff members. But the show also focused on Nickelodeon employees who had been convicted of child sex crimes — including Brian Peck, a dialogue coach for Nickelodeon, who was sentenced to prison for sexually abusing the “Drake & Josh” star Jared Drake Bell. Schneider’s lawsuit accuses the documentary of improperly conflating him with those who had been convicted of abusing children and took issue with segments of the series that his lawyers said “falsely and repeatedly state or imply that Schneider is a child sexual abuser.”

Penny Simkin, a childbirth educator and author who was often described as the “mother of the doula movement,” died on April 11 at her home in Seattle. Ms. Simkin, a physical therapist turned birth educator, was a pioneer in helping women have a better experience during and after birth. Doula is the Greek word for “female servant,” and it was embraced by alternative birth professionals sometime in the 1970s or ’80s to refer to someone who supports mothers during labor. In books, workshops and training organizations, Ms. Simkin helped popularize that role and worked as a doula herself. Doulas are not medical professionals; their role is to provide comfort to women in the delivery room as well as postpartum care at home.

Until the very idea of saying "yes" to one more thing left me feeling emotionally depleted, on edge, and lost. I was tackling it all, saying "yes" to all the things, when on the inside, my body was screaming for me to stop. The irony of it all was that by saying yes to everything, I wasn't helping anyone. How many times in a day do you catch yourself saying "yes" to things you don't even want to? We say "yes" to another date with a guy we're not even into, because we don't want to be mean.

A handful of new lounges opened by credit card issuers, including Capital One and American Express, have recently landed in airports across the United States, promising posh spots of refuge for select travelers awaiting their flights. At La Guardia Airport, caviar service will be available for pre-order. At Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, travelers can get complimentary massages, and at Denver International Airport, there are nap pods. Broadly, there are three types of airport lounges available to travelers: airline operated; shared-use spaces that aren’t limited to one airline or frequent flier status (think Priority Pass); and credit card lounges. For more than a decade, American Express was the only credit card issuer with lounges in the United States.

Rents soared thanks to a shortage of apartment units, remote workers' desire for more space, and a daunting for-sale market that kept many renters stuck in place. Ron DeSantis signed a bipartisan bill into law that unearth more Jeffrey Epstein records. The law will allow for the release of records from a 2006 Florida grand jury. Victim advocates hope that the release of the Epstein grand jury records will shed light on why prosecutors brought limited charges, and what else they may have known at the time. The Associated Press reported that a state judge decided not to release the records Thursday morning, citing the impending law. The Palm Beach police chief was so outraged that the grand jury only charged Epstein with one count that the FBI got involved.
