The very existence of the No Labels group is fanning Democratic anxiety about Trump’s chances against an incumbent president facing questions about his age and record. If even a small number of those voters were to back a No Labels candidate next year, Biden could fall short. No Labels party members skew younger. Twelve percent of them live in the 4th Congressional District, which includes Arizona State University. Such a poll would be meaningless because a large swath of voters won’t know anything about the No Labels candidate before a campaign is run, he said.

As the ostensibly bipartisan interest group No Labels discovered on Monday, consensus campaigning and governance is all well and good until it comes time for the details. At an event at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H., the group had something of a soft launch of its potential third-party bid for the presidency when Senator Joe Manchin III, Democrat of West Virginia, and Jon Huntsman Jr., the former Republican governor of Utah, formally released No Labels’ policy manifesto for political compromise. The two men took pains to say they were not the bipartisan presidential ticket of a No Labels candidacy, and that no such ticket would be formed if the Republican and Democratic nominees for 2024 would just embrace their moderation — “that won’t happen if they’re not threatened,” Mr. Manchin said threateningly. On the lofty matter of cooperation and compromise, both men were all in, as were their introducers, Joseph I. Lieberman, a former Democratic senator turned independent, Benjamin Chavis, a civil rights leader and Democrat, and Pat McCrory, a former Republican governor of North Carolina.

The West Virginia Democrat’s model has served him well with repeated statewide wins in one of the most conservative pro-Trump states in the nation. For now, Manchin’s noncommittal answers are worrying some of his Democratic colleagues. Polls show that both Biden and Trump, the front-runner for the GOP nomination, are unpopular. It argues, therefore, that 79 electoral votes are potentially at risk for Biden from the involvement of a third-party challenger. Such a challenger would also need to win states where Biden won big, and at least some conservative bastions.

The No Labels group on Monday will release a policy document which could be a blueprint for a White House bid. Many Democrats have blasted No Labels' recent activities, saying they could hurt Biden's reelection bid. The group strongly backs the Second Amendment, but also believes in universal background checks and restrictions on semiautomatic rifles. Chris Sununu, who floated a potential 2024 presidential bid but opted out of a campaign, told The Times that No Labels has found a political lane that is appealing to many Americans. "I'll give them credit in that No Labels seems to be tapping into what America is looking for right now," he told the newspaper.

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger thanked Russia for including him on a new travel ban. "I accept that I'm not their cup of Russian tea," he said in a Saturday statement mocking the list. "My inclusion on this list is deserved, and I appreciate them thinking of me." The list, which was released Friday by the Russian Foreign Ministry, named US citizens who aren't allowed to travel to Russia. Gershkovich was detained in the country in March and formally charged with espionage in April.
CNN —Former United States President Barack Obama, late night television host Stephen Colbert, and CNN’s Erin Burnett are some of the “500 Americans” Russia has banned from entering the country. The list includes Obama, former US Ambassador Jon Huntsman, several US senators and the next expected chairman of the joint chiefs Charles Q. The rambling list of names also includes American late night TV hosts Jimmy Kimmel, Colbert, and Seth Meyers. Friday’s list also includes CNN Anchor Erin Burnett and is an update of a previously published longer list of sanctioned individuals that includes CNN’s Chief International Security Correspondent Nick Paton Walsh, CNN contributors Bianna Golodryga and Timothy Naftali. While the list was labelled, “500 Americans,” Paton Walsh is a British citizen.
