Wall Street is notorious for its long hours and stressful lifestyle, particularly at the junior level, where grunt work abounds. They'd work hard and play hard, with an enviable social life like in all the Wall Street movies she'd seen. But Wall Street workers say that the nature of finance — the office politics and uniquely competitive cohort — can create a work culture that exacerbates feelings of loneliness. Some of the loneliness comes from this — it's all new, it feels bad, it's scary, and they don't feel like they can talk to anyone. But that doesn't mean people working on Wall Street can't do anything to mitigate their loneliness.

Old World Young Africa As the world grays, Africa blooms with youth. The World Is Becoming More African Part one of a series on how the youth boom is changing the continent, and beyond. But while a handful of African countries are poised to ride the demographic wave, others risk being swamped by it. In the West, racists and right-wing nationalists stoke fears of African population growth to justify hatred, or even violence. The age gap between geriatric leaders and restless youth is “a major source of tension” in many African countries, said Simon Mulongo, a former African Union diplomat from Uganda.

Aaron Rodgers ditched the crutches and walking boot, strolled onto the field during pregame warmups Sunday and the New York Jets quarterback started throwing passes again. "It is unbelievable," said Zach Wilson, who has started the Jets' past five games in Rodgers' absence. And it has happened in the locker room among the teammates Rodgers felt as though he let down just four snaps into his debut with the Jets on Sept. 11. While Rodgers continues to work on his recovery in Southern California, he has twice joined the team for games. Against Kansas City two weeks ago, Rodgers was still on crutches and watched from a suite.

"So far in my career, there's nothing like playing in front of a home crowd and I know this one will be the same. That first point was a real lift for the fans and the team and Fleetwood said he could feel the difference as Europe then swept the foursomes. "That afternoon felt like we were just playing with the crowd and they were lifting us and we were breezing through. "We feel it's a massive privilege to have the responsibility of carrying the legacy of European golf in the Ryder Cup and I think we are all very aware of that," Fleetwood said. But winning as a team has definitely been the highlight of my career."

But according to some industry experts, it’s not too early to start thinking about – and perhaps even booking – next year’s trip. But Keyes generally advises travelers not to necessarily hit that purchase button as soon as an airline opens up a flight for booking. “While it’s relatively common knowledge that last-minute fares are expensive, what’s far less known is that it’s also possible to book flights too early,” he says. From the hospitality industry perspective, advance booking can help hoteliers and other businesses adjust staffing, pricing and other factors to offer a better experience. While Cabutti of JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa acknowledges that “the early booking trend results in higher room rates,” it also enables businesses to better meet guests’ needs.

Alexa von Tobel learned at Harvard University that money doesn't buy happiness. But despite her own financial success, von Tobel, 39, says she's derived the most happiness throughout her career from "the intangibles that money can't buy." "Through my time at Harvard's Happiness Lab during my undergrad years, I really gained a new perspective on what drives happiness," von Tobel tells CNBC Make It, adding: "What actually drives happiness are the simple routines and the daily rituals in our lives that create community and connectedness." In college, von Tobel earned Magna Cum Laude honors for a senior thesis on happiness in the small country of Bhutan, according to her LinkedIn profile. "The daily effort drives happiness, not the outcome," says von Tobel.

The Biden administration announced Wednesday it would restrict investments by US venture capital and private equity firms, as well as joint ventures, in Chinese artificial intelligence, quantum computing and semiconductors. The executive order applies to investments in the cities of Hong Kong and Macao, as well as mainland China. She said the new edict suggested that Washington was “trying to ‘decouple’” US and Chinese venture capital, despite the administration’s insistence that it is not trying to halt trade with China. US venture capital investment into China has plummeted about 80% over the past year, according to PitchBook data. And the investment restrictions were long in the works.

Officials announcing the step repeatedly emphasized their goal was to limit US capital from aiding China’s military – not to damage China’s economy. “This is a national security action, not an economic one. US national security adviser Jake Sullivan described the measures as “tailored” in April. Since then, officials have worked to finalize the new investment rules, including narrowing them to focus squarely on national security technology. Still, Biden and his team have encouraged other countries to take similar steps to “de-risk” national security supply chains from China.

MSCI's Europe index, for example, still trades more than a point below its average historic valuation - with the index priced at less than 13 times its 12-month forward earnings. The top sectoral weighting in the STOXX Europe 50, for example, is healthcare - at almost 23%. With British-based stocks the biggest country weighting in the STOXX Europe index at 26%, the other top four sectors in the index include the food, beverages and tobacco grouping, consumer products, industrial goods and energy. The dollar peaked late last year against most European currencies as the Federal Reserve raced to ratchet up interest rates. Some think the slide in the dollar index of some 12% since last September is barely half of the whole move.

A White House official said it was a "high-class problem" to have, adding: "Folks are finding places to build. The governors of South Carolina, Virginia and North Carolina have each proposed to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on readying industrial sites in the coming years.
Google (GOOGL), which for years ranked as the top company to work for in the United States, laid off thousands of workers by e-mail. Google employee affected by January layoffs“The problem was, suddenly, you didn’t work for a company that was sending stuff to space or building autonomous cars,” Rout said. Hundreds of Google employees in Switzerland staged a walkout last week to protest layoffs, partly out of frustration with the lack of transparency. About a month before the January layoffs, one former employee said Google painted “You Belong” on one of the walls in their working area.

During the pandemic, 73% of employed women polled haven't asked for a pay raise, compared with 58% of employed men.

A growing number of states and municipalities are enacting salary transparency laws, a stepping stone toward eliminating wage discrepancies based on gender, race and other unfair practices. Here are a few important ways the push for greater pay transparency will change the way employers think about job listings. Even without a law, expect pay transparency to become the normPay transparency laws have been proliferating across the country, with a growing number of states including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland and Washington enacting some type of salary transparency law. New York City's salary transparency law, meanwhile — set to go into effect Nov. 1 — includes employers with four or more employees, provided at least one works within New York City. Some companies have opted not to recruit in certain states because of their salary transparency laws, explicitly excluding remote candidates who hail from these states in their job postings.
This week, a reader in an open marriage faces a dilemma: What to do about an unwanted roommate. However, this will depend on what you and your wife decide about her lover moving into your home full-time. Whichever you and your wife choose, Hardy says it must be built on those tangible goals I mentioned earlier. Perhaps you need more affirmation and attention, or maybe you simply need your wife's lover to go home. But having an open relationship doesn't just mean having a polyamorous sex life; it also means being open and honest with your partner.
