Chris Michael started a karaoke channel on YouTube as a way to repurpose his "soundalike" content. With that many subscribers, the YouTube channel could generate enough revenue through ads to make it a worthwhile deal for the rights holders. That started a long chain of conversations with music labels, publishers, and rights holders. This gave rights holders the tools and reassurance they needed to do deals with people like us. We currently provide karaoke on YouTube but want to provide a bigger karaoke experience — that's our next project.

HONG KONG, June 14 (Reuters) - Various versions of the pro-democracy protest anthem "Glory to Hong Kong" were unavailable on Apple’s iTunes Store, Spotify, Facebook and Instagram’s Reels on Wednesday after the government sought an injunction banning the song outright. “Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has a duty and obligation to safeguard national security, and we should do it proactively and also preventively,” Lee said. "Glory to Hong Kong", including its various versions, dominated the top ten in Apple’s Hong Kong iTunes Store chart as people rushed to buy the song after the government announced its bid to ban it. "Glory to Hong Kong" has been played mistakenly instead of the Chinese national anthem "March of the Volunteers". Hong Kong's security chief said in December Google had refused to change its search results to display China's national anthem instead of "Glory to Hong Kong" when users searched for Hong Kong's national anthem, expressing "great regret" at the decision.

Apple has chosen AR/VR as the next big area to pursue with its new Vision Pro glasses. The product, which was shown off during an extensive demo by Apple on Monday, is called Apple Vision Pro (AVP). It represents years of research and the first major Apple product launched without the guiding hand and showmanship of the late Steve Jobs (if one doesn't count the Apple AirPods or Watch as major new products, and I do not.) And the Vision Pro isn't likely to have one either. Apple's Vision Pro can be used for FaceTime conversations AppleWith just their eyes, consumers already have large-screen viewing and playing experiences with 4K monitors on their walls connected to excellent video game consoles.

April 27 (Reuters) - Charles Leclerc is flying low in the Formula One standings but climbing high in the music charts with a different kind of track success. The Ferrari driver is a keen piano player and this week released a four minute composition entitled 'Aus23 (1:1)' on streaming platforms. The track was soaring in the Apple iTunes top song rankings alongside hits by the likes of Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and Miley Cyrus. Leclerc said the song might be sad, but it was not connected to the disappointing Australian Grand Prix where he spun into the gravel on the opening lap. On track, Leclerc has had two retirements in the first three races and is 10th overall in the championship with just six points.
CNN —A complex but concerning method of gaining control over a user’s iPhone and permanently locking them out the device appears to be on the rise. Some victims also told the publication their bank accounts were drained after the thieves gained access to their financial apps. It requires a criminal essentially watching an iPhone user enter the device’s passcode – for example, by looking over their shoulder at a bar or sporting event – or manipulating the device’s owner so they’ll share their passcode. By enabling this, a thief would be prompted for that secondary password before changing an Apple ID password. Vinyl sales beat out CDs for the first time since 1987, according to the Recording Industry Association of America. While streaming still reigns supreme, physical music sales are making a "remarkable resurgence," RIAA said. Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, and Olivia Rodrigo topped vinyl sales this year, per Luminate. Not since 1987 has vinyl led physical music sales, after the rise of the compact disc revolutionized the way Americans consumed music. Still, vinyl sales are on the rise even as supply issues and bottlenecks plague the industry and companies struggle to meet demand.
Eastman Kodak (KODK) was a Dow stock. I’ve written about B2B (aka business-to-business) software companies, cloud computing firms, IPOs and SPACs, and cannabis/pot stocks. There have been more flavors of the month in the stock market during my CNN career than at your local Baskin-Robbins. It’s fine to have a lot of your money in S&P 500 ETFs and other funds that will track the broader market. “We still continue to believe that over long periods of time, stocks provide a reasonable hedge against inflation,” Patterson said.

Companies Apple Inc FollowJan 20 (Reuters) - A U.S. appeals court on Friday affirmed a decision to throw out a $308.5 million jury verdict against Apple Inc (AAPL.O) for allegedly infringing a patent related to digital rights management. PMC, a patent licensing company, first sued Apple for infringing several patents in 2015. He said PMC's patent was unenforceable because the company had used a "deliberate strategy of delay" in applying for the patent, representing a "conscious and egregious misuse of the statutory patent system." The Federal Circuit affirmed Gilstrap in a 2-1 ruling, finding that PMC's "inequitable scheme to extend its patent rights" had prejudiced Apple. It's part of the cloud giant's plan to curb labor costs that insiders say is starting to hurt morale. Oracle is steering clear of job-seekers in major tech hubs. These guidelines come amid other hiring restrictions implemented at the cloud giant, which employees say are further tanking already low morale. In some cases, hiring managers are being asked to backfill formerly US-based roles with candidates from Eastern Europe to save money. Oracle is trying to cut $1 billion in costs and has already had two rounds of layoffs in recent months.
Apple CEO Tim Cook told U2 there was "something not right" about giving their art away for free. Cook also questioned whether the album would only go out to U2 fans, Bono said in a new memoir. U2's "Songs of Innocence" album was given away for free to 500 million iTunes store users in 2014. Instead of giving users the option to download the album, Apple automatically put the music on their devices. He said: "A U2 album that some would have taken seriously was instead turned into an album that seems as pointless as it probably is.
