“Kamalaaaaaaaa!”Oprah Winfrey is belting it out in her sweet home of Chicago, welcoming the joyous, raucous, unmerciful dismantling of former President Donald Trump that is defining this Democratic National Convention. A second, very different presidential debateIn Philadelphia, a birthplace of American democracy, Harris is charging Trump before the first question. Trump’s debate prep team predicted and feared this strategy so much they brought in Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz to play tormentor in practice rounds with their candidate. “I’m actually going to do something very unusual,” she says, “and I’m going to invite you to attend one of Donald Trump’s rallies, because it’s really interesting to watch. Much of Trump's closing message is focused on illegal immigration, one of the centerpieces of his campaign. The interview, which was widely hyped by Trump and his supporters, was a snapshot of his, at best, untraditional attempt at a campaign closing message and, at worst, his tendency to step on his own policy pushes. The discipline of the Harris campaign contrasts with that of Trump, whose late-cycle rallies have maintained the sort of rambling, unfocused structure he has long been known for. That dynamic can be seen even in his final speeches as Trump tries to close out his third presidential campaign. “This joke does not reflect the views of President Trump or the campaign,” Danielle Alvarez, a senior adviser, said in a statement shortly after the joke was made.

MIAMI — With less than two weeks before the presidential election, NBC News and MSNBC checked in with a group of voters in Florida’s Miami-Dade County, where 69% of its residents are Latino. In the six months that followed, the race changed drastically, with Biden dropping out of the race and Vice President Kamala Harris becoming the Democratic presidential nominee. The conversation took place as Harris and Trump criss-cross the country amid an evenly split presidential race, with both candidates appealing to the growing Latino electorate in appearances at separate town halls. We wanted to know how these voters are thinking about the race now and the issues that matter to them. They also discussed the urgent need to find common ground — and lower the temperature of the political rhetoric.

Ironically, however, Fox edited several of Trump’s recent appearances on the network, including his visit to the barbershop. Northwest Arkansas was last year ranked the 15th fastest-growing region in the country, and much of that population growth was driven by immigrant workers. “It’s a popular selling point to the base to say ‘I’m going to round up five million immigrants,’” said Mr. Quiñones, 35. The influx of immigrants into Northwest Arkansas has given rise to a thriving local ecosystem of businesses. Northwest Arkansas is the 15th fastest-growing region in the country, and much of that population growth is driven by immigrant workers. “We don’t have this thinking that people are being displaced,” Mr. Peacock said.

He sat down with BI to talk about the race, the national debt, abortion, and the state of his party. In an era where college-educated voters have been bleeding out of the GOP, Schweikert is increasingly an outlier, and he knows it. In order to keep looking like his district, Schweikert — a one-time conservative rabble-rouser who rode his way into Congress during the 2010 Tea Party wave — has had to make some changes. But now that Schweikert's sharing the ballot with Trump, he's not sweating that either. But while Democrats are hoping the state-level vote will boost turnout on their side and remind voters of Republicans' opposition to abortion, Schweikert sees it differently.

His alarming behavior may look to some like a candidacy melting down when the pressure is at its most extreme. With polls deadlocked, Trump’s behavior hasn’t yet disqualified him. And Trump’s voters still regard him as a vessel for their frustration with a political and economic system they believe has poorly served them. Trump’s behavior underscores stakes of deadlocked electionIt will be up to voters to decide how to process Trump’s recent conduct. In the end, on Wednesday, both Harris and Fox News probably got what they wanted. But before the interview, Harris spokesman Ian Sams explained her thinking. If only a few thousand Fox viewers or traditional conservatives swapped sides, it could push some swing states in the vice president’s direction. Still, the risk for Harris is that her display in her first formal Fox interview could alienate some of those voters. It’s taken her several months to arrive at the assurance that she’d strike a strong contrast with Biden’s administration, which she unveiled in the Fox interview.

CNN —Former President Donald Trump on Wednesday repeated his false claim that Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio, are eating their neighbors’ pets, using a town hall with undecided Latino voters to prop up misinformation that has been rejected by local and statewide leaders from both parties. Trump has made inroads with Hispanic voters, but Vice President Kamala Harris still has an advantage – albeit slimmer than Joe Biden’s in 2020 – with that demographic. The former president on Wednesday largely ignored the detailed questions from the audience, frequently pivoting to attacks on undocumented immigrants. Trump did not respond directly, but – after acknowledging he’s never been to the city – said he is planning a visit. “We had the strongest border we’ve ever had in the history, recorded history of our country,” Trump said when questioned about his border plan.

Former President Donald Trump on Friday repeatedly called for using the death penalty against migrants who kill U.S. citizens and law enforcement officers. "I’m hereby calling for the death penalty for any migrant who kills an American citizen or a law enforcement officer," Trump said at a campaign rally in Reno, Nevada. Trump has also previously called for using the death penalty against human and drug traffickers. A Trump campaign spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Friday night. In the face of this polling, though, Trump is betting on his gut, telling a Wisconsin crowd on Sunday, “I really don’t agree” that the economy will decide the election. And it’s the hardest problem to solve too.”On comfortable groundIllegal immigration is certainly comfortable terrain for Trump. “We strongly condemn these dehumanizing acts and demand respect and justice.”The Dominican Republic, which shares the Caribbean island of Hispaniola with Haiti, last week said it would deport up to 10,000 migrants per week who were in the country illegally, a sharp increase. So far this month, the Dominican Republic has deported more than 9,000 people, more than 7,000 of those since Thursday, the nation’s migration agency said in a statement on Monday. More than 4,900 of the total were Haitians, a Dominican official who declined to be named told Reuters. If the Dominican Republic follows through on its plan, the number deported in a year would rise sharply from more than 200,000 Haitians forcibly returned last year. In the United States, presidential candidate Donald Trump has also pledged mass deportations and has made false claims about Haitian migrants in the town of Springfield, Ohio.

In a fact-bending blast of disinformation, the former president is charging Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden’s White House of the very transgressions of which he stands accused. This is false, but Trump, while president, did repurpose FEMA funds to help finance his hardline immigration policies. But in retrospect, the charade featuring his first White House press secretary Sean Spicer was a harbinger of an administration that bucked fact as an instrument of political power. Trump voters respond to his populism and his evisceration of elites and many sincerely believe he’s a response to a march to the left by the Democratic Party. Both Trump and Harris, who are deadlocked in the polls, are chasing voters who may not habitually follow politics.

Gang members brandishing automatic rifles stormed through a town in Haiti’s main breadbasket region, killing at least 70 and forcing over 6,000 to flee, causing widespread shock even in a country grown accustomed to outbreaks of violence. CNN —At least 70 people, including three infants, were killed in a gang attack in the central Haiti town of Pont Sondé, the United Nations Human Rights Office said in a statement on Friday. Members of the “Gran Grif” gang used automatic rifles to kill at least 70 people on Thursday, including 10 women and three infants, according to the UN. The attack occurred in Haiti’s Artibonite department, a crucial agricultural center about 50 miles north of Port-au-Prince, where gang violence has continued to spread, according to the UN. At least 16 people were seriously injured in the attack, including two gang members hit during an exchange of fire with Haitian police, the UN said. “Despite an extremely difficult security context, the victims of this attack are being cared for by local institutions,” the ministry said.
