CNN —The UK has greenlit a controversial plan to open the country’s first new coal mine in three decades, a little more than a year after the nation tried to convince the world to ditch coal at the COP26 climate talks in Glasgow. Committee chairman Lord Deben said in a statement: “Phasing out coal use is the clearest requirement of the global effort towards Net Zero. We condemn, therefore, the Secretary of State’s decision to consent to a new deep coal mine in Cumbria, contrary to our previous advice. This decision grows global emissions and undermines UK efforts to achieve Net Zero.”The mine’s approval was also met with fierce criticism from scientists and environmentalists. Its opponents argue these jobs may not be secure, given the huge momentum in Europe to phase out coal.

Nov 17 (Reuters) - Provention Bio (PRVB.O) said on Thursday the U.S. Food and Drug Administration had approved the use of its drug teplizumab in those aged eight years and older, the first treatment aimed at delaying the onset of insulin-dependent type 1 diabetes. In October, Provention signed a co-promotion deal for the drug with Sanofi (SASY.PA), offering the French drugmaker first negotiation for exclusive global rights to commercialize the drug in exchange for an upfront payment of $20 million. As per the deal, the approval will also allow Sanofi to purchase up to $35 million of Provention's common stock. Current standard of care for type 1 diabetes requires patients to monitor and manage symptoms such as low or high blood sugar levels through regular insulin intake. Type 1 diabetes, previously known as juvenile diabetes, is a disease in which the immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas, leaving sufferers reliant on regular insulin injections.

Companies Enbridge Inc FollowNov 4 (Reuters) - Canadian energy infrastructure firm Enbridge Inc (ENB.TO) on Friday announced a C$3.6 billion ($2.65 billion) expansion of the southern segment of its British Columbia (B.C.) Gas production in Western Canada this year neared record levels of 18 billion cubic feet a day. Enbridge said the expansion of the southern part of its system, known as T-South, will add 300 million cubic feet per day (cfpd) of capacity. It will serve customers in the Pacific Northwest and southern B.C., as well as the Woodfibre LNG project that Enbridge bought a C$1.5 billion stake in earlier this year. Enbridge shares were trading 1.6% higher at C$54.51 on the Toronto Stock Exchange on Friday after the company reported a higher third-quarter adjusted profit.

TOKYO, Sept 22 (Reuters) - Japan intervened in the currency market on Thursday to buy yen for the first time since 1998, in attempt to shore up the hard-hit currency after the Bank of Japan stuck with ultra-low rates. Currency intervention is costly and could easily fail given the difficulty of influencing its value in the huge global foreign exchange market. Japan's foreign reserves stand at $1.33 trillion, the world's largest after China's and likely composed mostly of dollars. Currency intervention would also require informal consent by Japan's G7 counterparts, notably the United States, if it were to be conducted against the dollar/yen. That is not easy with Washington traditionally opposed to the idea of currency intervention, except in cases of extreme market volatility.

CNN —Matthew McConaughey says his father helped teach him about the concept of consent. During a recently published episode of Amanda de Cadenet’s “The Conversation: About the Men” podcast, the actor talked about how his parents instructed him about healthy sexual relationships. “I had been taught, been guided by my parents about respect for a woman, respect for the relationship, respect for sexual intimacy, respect for space,” he said. “And he goes, ‘Well, it’s gonna go further than that one day. “After that, I got to have some healthy sexual relations,” McConaughey said.
