The announcement by the Colorado Supreme Court is the latest development in the yearslong legal saga involving Jack Phillips and LGBTQ+ rights. Political Cartoons View All 1196 ImagesEarlier this year, the Colorado Court of Appeals sided with Scardina in the case, ruling that the cake was not a form of speech. “We are grateful that the Colorado Supreme Court will hear Jack Phillips’ case to hopefully uphold every Coloradan’s freedom to express what they believe,” said Jake Warner, Phillips' Alliance Defending Freedom attorney. Phillips maintains that the cakes he creates are a form of speech and asked the state Supreme Court to consider his appeal in April. Scardina, an attorney, attempted to order her cake on the same day in 2017 that the Supreme Court announced it would hear Phillips’ appeal in the wedding cake case.

A fatal plane crash was reported in Mexico after a gender reveal stunt went wrong. Previous gender reveal parties have also caused deaths and accidents like a massive wildfire. The most recent crash isn't the first deadly accident involving a gender reveal party. The gender reveal trend also caused a massive wildfire in California in 2020 after a celebratory fireworks display sparked a catastrophic blaze that raged for days across more than 10,000 acres. The incidents prompted the woman who popularized the trend to call for an end to the increasingly extreme gender reveal trend in 2020.

When it comes to chocolate chip cookies, I prefer a chewy texture and balanced sweetness. The chocolate chip cookies my mom made will always reign supreme in my mind. A growing number of bakeries are offering their own takes on the classic chocolate chip cookie. I decided to visit both chains to see how their hero chocolate chip cookies stacked up. The Insomnia chocolate chip cookie was smaller and thinner than the Crumbl cookie, and much flatter.

The 26-year-old bear, Tian Tian, along with two other pandas in the zoo, are slated to leave by December 7. On Sunday, Tian Tian received a special “fruitsicle” cake made with fruits and vegetables with a “frosting” of sweet potatoes, mashed carrots and honey for his birthday, the museum said. The National Zoo’s Giant Panda Program celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2022. Mei Xiang and Tian Tian first arrived at the zoo in the early 2000s and were originally supposed to stay for 10 years. According to the National Zoo, giant pandas have an estimated lifespan of about 15-20 years in the wild and about 30 years in human care.

No matter how great of a relationship you have with your boss, it's generally not the best idea to be friends with them. That's because a personal relationship can make things complicated when they may need to make difficult decisions, says Phoebe Gavin, a leadership and workplace coach. "At the end of the day, if your boss's boss says, 'Hey, we can't afford to employ your friend anymore. You need to lay them off,' you know what your boss is going to do? Interpersonal connections are important in the workplace, but they "can't be the foundation of your professional relationship with your boss or your colleagues," Gavin says.
Stephen Walker says he was getting the cake for his daughter's 3rd birthday, but it didn't go as planned. "Costco will give you exactly what you know you didn't need," Walker captioned the post, which has gained nearly 2,000 comments. According to Today.com, Walker ended up keeping the cake since he was "in a time crunch" and planned to add a cake topper to the dessert anyway. "That'll just be the cake topper, and I'll just take a picture every year. So it's like, a picture of a picture of a picture, like 'Inception.'"
If you want your kids to succeed in life, teach them to be mentally strong, says psychotherapist Amy Morin. Knowing what mentally strong kids never do can help you identify the types of unhealthy behaviors that may stand in your child's way. Mentally strong kids don't avoid challengesChildren are often afraid to try new things, like playing a new sport or instrument, because they don't think they'll be good at it, Morin says. But trying difficult things can open up your kids to new skills and offer important lessons on dealing with failure, says Morin. "It's important for kids to know you have feelings too, or you struggle with certain things," Morin says.
Offering cake as well as other sweets and snacks may protect against dysfunctional eating behaviors. Crystal Karges celebrated her youngest daughter’s fifth birthday last month with a gooey chocolate cake covered in white frosting and rainbow sprinkles. The next morning, she served her five children the leftover slices at breakfast alongside fruit, eggs, sausage and milk. Ms. Karges is among parents, dietitians and doctors who advocate giving children more freedom over what they eat including, at times, high-sugar, high-fat and highly processed foods. They said the approach helps children develop healthy dietary habits and protect against disordered eating—or dysfunctional eating behaviors—which affects more than 20% of children globally, according to a recent meta-analysis in the journal JAMA Pediatrics.

Priced at $40 for a pack of 12, some fans scoffed at the price tag. For $40, fans can buy a box of 12 cookies decorated with frosting, sprinkles, and their favorite team's logo ahead of the NBA All-Star Game next weekend. "$40 for 12 Oreos that have some NBA logos on them is the worst deal ever," one user wrote on Twitter. But NBA fans this time around seem a little less keen on novelty Oreos than Pokémon fanatics. "Yes of course I want these NBA logo Oreos.
The Colorado baker who won a partial U.S. Supreme Court victory after refusing to make a gay couple’s wedding cake because of his Christian faith lost an appeal Thursday in his latest legal fight, involving his rejection of a request for a birthday cake celebrating a gender transition. The Colorado Court of Appeals ruled that that the cake Autumn Scardina requested from Jack Phillips and Masterpiece Cakeshop, which was to be pink with blue frosting, is not a form of speech. Scardina, an attorney, attempted to order her cake on the same day in 2017 that the Supreme Court announced it would hear Phillips’ appeal in the wedding cake case. Phillips then filed a federal lawsuit against Colorado, accusing it of a “crusade to crush” him by pursuing the complaint. In March 2019, lawyers for the state and Phillips agreed to drop both cases under a settlement Scardina was not involved in.

Opinion The 22 Debates That Made Us Rage, Roll Our Eyes, and Change Our Minds in 2022Debating is what we do here at Times Opinion. To many, she was an icon: She ruled for 70 years, presided over the transition from empire to commonwealth and served as a living link to the generation that won World War II. (Though Ben Bernanke, a former Fed chairman himself, wrote in The Times that that wasn’t going to happen.) The United States and its European allies poured weapons and aid into Ukraine, but how was this going to end? As 2022 draws to a close, the fighting continues and peace talks look as distant as ever — which probably means that the debates will continue.
