Melissa and Mark Wimmer say they "never pushed" their son Mike to do homework — but they're hard-liners when it comes to him making friends. "I'll be honest, people expect 'Young Sheldon' before they meet Mike," Melissa tells CNBC Make It, referring to the CBS television show. The Wimmers are proud of helping Mike ensure his "social skills were in line with his intellectual skills," Mark says. "Mike will be the first one to say that his parents never pushed him as far as academics go, but [that] they left no room for negotiating on his social skills."

There's a common misconception that introverts have to mimic stereotypically extroverted personalities to succeed: Be outspoken, always raise your hand and command a room. "If you know that you prefer smaller settings, you might not want to apply for a job at a large corporation," Allen says. The most daunting part might be opting out of extrovert-friendly situations without bothering anyone else, Allen says. Allen's advice: Come prepared with clear examples of situations you'd like to avoid, how you'd like to contribute instead and why it'll make you both happier and more productive. DON'T MISS: Want to be smarter and more successful with your money, work & life?
Turn the lens inwardIf you suspect someone in your ranks is quitting quietly, Thompson recommends that you first consider the possibility that you could be misreading their behavior. Managers set the tone for their teams, Thompson says. In fact, that's why it's not a bad idea to ask your team to work on this document before any new issues arise. And if your efforts to reenergized a disengaged employee fail, Thompson says, the issue may end up correcting itself. "If you have an engaged workplace, whoever is quietly checked out probably won't want to be around.
Gallup’s Quarterly Workforce Indicator surveys consistently show that managers are a linchpin to employee engagement, retention, productivity and trust in leadership. As it turns out, effective training for managers is not a thing at many workplaces. “I would say 99% of employers don’t provide effective training — and I’m not exaggerating there,” said Ashley Herd, a former human resources executive who founded @ManagerMethod. In fact, how managers speak with employees — and how often — can go a long way to building employees’ trust and commitment, according to Gallup. Have that person then lead an internal training for managers and another one for employees about how to work with their managers.
Tigers have personality traits similar to extroversion and introversion in humans, researchers have found. Tigers that score higher on "majesty" eat more, have higher group status and mate more often. Tigers that scored for "majesty" were highly rated on words such as dignified, confident, and fierce and placed low on terms like withdrawn oterms feeble. "Steadiness" in tigers was associated with high ratings for words like friendly, gentle, and loving but ranked low for words such as aggressive or cruel. Abdellaoui told The Guardian that the words were all initially Chinese, and some of their meanings might be harder to translate.
People are often shocked when I tell them I'm an introvert, especially since my job involves a lot of socializing and relationship building. There are many misconceptions about introverts: We're shy, we don't like to socialize, we don't take risks. Here are three things I always do to look and feel more confident:1. When I feel less confident, I turn to my "praise folder" that I created on my iPhone. At networking events, I remind myself that I don't have to talk with everyone in the room.
Even if you haven't taken the Enneagram test yourself, you may have been roped into a conversation about it. The Enneagram is 'focused on internal emotions rather than external behaviors'Unlike other personality tests, the Enneagram has an unlikely foothold in disparate communities. Howe, who lives in Pasadena, California, grew up taking the Myers-Briggs Test and other personality tests, but said the Enneagram is different. She first heard of the Enneagram test from a friend but didn't take it seriously until she read "The Road Back to You." Like astronomy or other typologies, every Enneagram test result is positive.
However, I soon realized the office we're going back to won't be the same office we had before the pandemic. But now, even with the mandate, yes, I'd be going into the office, but I'd still essentially be working as if I'm remote. Knowing now that Amazon's return to the office won't be what I wanted, I'm leaving to work somewhere with a stronger in-person culture. It's crazy because Amazon will probably think I'm quitting because I want to work from home, but it's actually the opposite. I know remote work is really great for some people, but ultimately it's just not how I want to work.
It's big what happens to Jules," Freeman told Reuters of the film, which premiered at the Berlinale film festival last Sunday. For George MacKay, playing the role of Preston was a chance to tap into currents in his own personality. While the film will especially appeal to LGBTQ+ viewers, its moving human story and racy plot has something for everyone, Freeman said. "This is a film that is for queer audiences, but it's also a film for all audiences," he said. "The queer is a label that we proudly attach to it, but it's not all that it is."
The research is clear: Making extra small talk or raising your hand for networking opportunities can help introverts find more energy, better social connections and higher levels of happiness. Extroverts may feel recharged and revitalized after some small talk, while introverts are ready to lie down, even if they enjoyed those conversations just as much. Of course, not every stereotypically extroverted action drains introverts: Some might love rowdy happy hours or off-the-cuff brainstorms. "Acting like an extrovert" might just mean reaching out to others more often, despite knowing you typically find those interaction tiring. A simple calculation can help you determine when to put yourself out there and when to pull back, Shapiro says.
Therefore, I utilize several tips to assist me in making networking events as successful and painless as possible. Having exciting news to discuss during the networking event will be highly beneficial. Although you're probably not interviewing for a job, it's good to think of networking events as if you are. The mindset of asking questions and actively listening assists me tremendously during networking events. My final suggestion is to not plan networking events back-to-back.
Magical Messi saves his best for last in Qatar

Dec 16 (Reuters) - As if he had not made enough fairy-tales, Argentina's little genius Lionel Messi has saved the potentially most magical script for his last World Cup - with one line left to write. After scoring a penalty to send Argentine fans into delirium, the usually impeccably-behaved Messi ran towards the Dutch bench cupping his ears in a provocative gesture. Though some pundits criticized him for disrespect, Argentine fans were largely delighted at the Maradona-like flashes of defiance from the introverted Messi. All that is missing in the Messi story is a World Cup. Carry it in your heart because that is more important than a World Cup and you've already won that, thanks Captain."
Much is written about the professional opportunities remote employees miss by not working in person. On an intellectual level, I realize it's silly to experience pangs of FOMO for work get-togethers that I can't possibly go to. But on a middle-school level, I can't help but feel a stab of sadness about not being included in office social life, especially during this most social time of year. But now that more employees are back to in-person work, there are good times to be had — and remote employees are taking notice. Remote work works for my life, my family, and my job, and despite the drawbacks, I'd rather be WFH than any other setup.

When millions of viewers tune into Jeopardy! to shout answers at their screens, the game show’s co-host Mayim Bialik is often settling into a quiet evening. “I’m an introvert who lives my life as an extrovert,” she says. “I really need to not have to talk to people as much as possible when I get home.” This summer, she went viral on Instagram when she expressed that sentiment in a video that was liked by more than two million people.

In Insider's new work-advice column, a reader worries she's developed ADHD while working from home. There's no such thing as sudden-onset ADHD, but modern life and always-on tech are distracting. Is it possible that working from home during the pandemic is giving me attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)? Instead, Dr. Hallowell said you're suffering from what he calls, "culturally-induced ADD," or "a severe case of modern life." "The remedies are also similar — apart from the lack of prescription medication to treat modern life," he said.
