The union representing thousands of federal workers said it would fight any effort by President-elect Donald Trump to block a Biden administration agreement allowing thousands of federal workers to continue with remote work. Trump, who spoke to reporters at his Mar-a-Lago resort, called the deal "very terrible," and said it's interfering with his plans for how to handle the federal workforce, which includes ending remote work. "Telework and remote work are tools that have helped the federal government increase productivity and efficiency, maintain continuity of operations, and increase disaster preparedness," he added. Ramaswamy told Tucker Carlson after Trump's election victory that he believed ending remote work would lead to mass resignations. She told reporters last month that more federal workers going back to work in the city would bring “vibrancy back to our town.”

Now, freeze-dried mouse sperm, stored aboard the International Space Station (ISS) in a radiation protection box, could help give us a better understanding of mammals’ ability to procreate off Earth. In 1997, he and another academic developed a novel method that they used to clone the world’s first mouse from adult cells. And he and his team pioneered a freeze-drying method used to send mouse sperm to the ISS, where it was stored in a freezer for up to six years. From that study, they determined that freeze-dried sperm could stay viable for 200 years in space. When it comes to mice, the freeze-dried mouse sperm Wakayama is currently storing aboard the ISS will return to Earth in 2025 for study.

Sen. Bernie Sanders says Amazon's focus on speed leads to "uniquely dangerous" workplaces. In a new report, which Amazon disputes, Sanders says its injury rates are worse than it lets on. Only 40% of Amazon's warehouses have that number of workers, it said. The comparison is likely more favorable as "the injury rate for the subcategory of large warehouses is consistently higher than the overall injury rate for the entire warehousing industry," according to the report. The report attributed much of the elevated injury rates to Amazon's "obsession with productivity and speed," which it said drives workers beyond safe limits.

CNN —China has tripled the amount of time visitors can spend in the country without a visa in yet another move to entice more foreign tourists. Passport holders from 38 countries can enter China visa-free for up to 30 days, including France, Malaysia, New Zealand, Japan and Switzerland. Until 2023, US citizens seeking a China travel visa had to confirm a hotel booking, tour itinerary and flight reservation before applying for a visa, but those requirements have since been dropped. Foreigners eligible to visit under the new 240-hour transit policy do not have the freedom to travel throughout China. Meanwhile, Hong Kong and Macao both count as third destinations for those entering under the 240-hour visa-free transit program.

New York CNN —Amazon is disregarding its own research that shows warehouse employees are facing an increased injury threat due to its focus on productivity, according to Senate investigators. The Senate report released Sunday said the company forces workers to repeat the same movements hundreds, if not thousands, of times each shift, resulting in extremely high rates of injury to their muscles and joints. The Occupational Health and Safety Administration proposed fines totaling $100,000 in 2023 citing conditions that exposed workers to ergonomic hazards. Bing Guan/Bloomberg/Getty ImagesAn Amazon internal report cited by Senate investigators, titled Project Soteria, found there was a relationship between the speed of tasks that workers performed and their rate of injury. Project Soteria recommended changing speed-related discipline and time-off policies to reduce injury rates.

While thousands of US businesses use guest workers, the process of hiring them can be cumbersome. Dattolo said dozens of country clubs and businesses in the county use guest workers, though she said before hiring foreigners, companies must advertise the jobs to American workers. In that time, Trump businesses requested and received government approval to hire foreign laborers for more than 2,100 positions.
