My girlfriend and I dated for a year and a half before we decided we wanted to live together. While thinking of where we wanted to live, we decided on Manchester, a city new to both of us. Frontier Airlines' annual all-you-can-fly flight pass called "GoWild!" The "unlimited" flight pass has its limitationsOne of the biggest concerns about GoWild is actually getting anywhere at all. Finding GoWild seats is a lot of tedious guess-and-checkThe process of searching and booking GoWild seats is a cumbersome task. While I had a good experience, there are still a lot of limitations to the "unlimited" flight pass, and the costs can add up. Older adults may still need to take vitamin D or calcium for overall health but should take different steps to protect from fractures or reduce the risk of falling. The draft recommendation is not yet final, but will be available on the task force’s website for public comment through January 21, along with a draft evidence review. “The other thing is that there were some questions about whether high doses might be beneficial of vitamin D and calcium,” Rao said. Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium, and benefits the immune system, the brain and muscle performance, among other functions. Steps older adults can take to reduce their risk of falls and fractures include getting screened for osteoporosis, especially for women 65 and older, Rao said, and regular exercise.

Still, many financial advisors remain wary. "As traditional long-term planners, we currently do not incorporate crypto in our portfolio allocations," said certified financial planner Marianela Collado, CEO of Tobias Financial Advisors in Plantation, Florida. To be sure, regulatory uncertainty remains a clear area of concern for financial advisors when it comes to recommending crypto investments to clients. In April, when crypto prices were lower, an annual survey of 2,000 financial advisors by Cerulli Associates found that 59% don't currently use cryptocurrencies or plan to in the future. Spot bitcoin ETFs, first available in January, now have more than $100 billion in assets under management, which is about 1% of the overall ETF market.

The communication breakdown happens as the social platforms launched in the 2000s have taken on larger lives than anyone anticipated. The candid nature of group chats gives them value and tethers people with looser connections together, but that can also make them unwieldy. Group chats can languish for years; there's no playbook for leaving or kicking out someone who's no longer close to the core group. If a couple breaks up, who gets the group chat? But his group chat might still have the best vibes of all.

Walmart has started giving store-level associates body cameras to wear as part of a pilot program at some of its U.S. locations, CNBC has learned. Walmart, the largest nongovernmental employer in the U.S., is testing the technology after smaller retailers started trying body cameras at their own stores as a way to deter theft. However, it's unclear whether body cameras actually help to deescalate conflict. Appelbaum, whose union does not represent Walmart employees but includes staff from retailers such as Macy's and H&M, said the RWDSU is concerned that body cameras are more about surveillance and deterring theft than making employees safer. She said body cameras could be part of the solution but cameras alone are "no substitute" for proper training.

New tech is lowering the price of entry in fields like direct indexing and private markets. Private markets face steeper hurdles. Parametric recently launched an offering that allows customers to pick equities off strategies from the financial-advisory and asset-management firm Lazard. If BlackRock successfully indexes private markets, it could go a long way toward boosting that percentage. However, Sinclair said more work is required to help mass affluent investors feel comfortable investing in private markets.

With the Federal Reserve's recent moves to lower interest rates — and further cuts on the horizon — some federal student loan borrowers are wondering if now is a good time to refinance. "We are already seeing more borrowers tempted to refinance their federal loans," said Betsy Mayotte, president of The Institute of Student Loan Advisors. Refinancing your federal student loans turns them into a private student loan and transfers the debt from the government to a private company. But the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has new warnings about refinancing student debt. "Companies break the law when they mislead student borrowers about their protections or deny borrowers their rightful benefits," said CFPB Director Rohit Chopra.

I’m blessed to have received this gift, a second chance at life,” Looney said at a news conference on Tuesday. She was among more than 90,000 people who are currently on the waiting list for a kidney transplant in the US. In March, 52-year-old Rick Slayman, who had end-stage renal failure, received a pig kidney transplant at Massachusetts General Hospital. In April, NYU performed a pig kidney transplant with a mechanical heart pump for 54-year-old Lisa Pisano, who lived nearly three more months. Having that option could be transformative: About 13 people in the US die each day waiting for a kidney transplant.

“In this term, everybody wants to be my friend,” the president-elect said at his Mar-a-Lago resort Monday, relishing the outpouring of deference from foreign leaders, CEOs and Republican powerbrokers as he readies his second term. Since winning last month’s election, Trump has been far more visible than Joe Biden, and it would be easy to mistake him for the sitting president. Trump never looked quite as at ease or cheerful when he was saddled with the cares of the presidency. Trump’s unique chanceTrump is experiencing a chance that only one president in history — Grover Cleveland — has known: to start his second term from scratch. It seems unlikely, as the president-elect speculated in his freewheeling news conference in Florida, that “my personality changed or something.”Such turmoil is unlikely to erode the rock-solid loyalty of Trump’s political base.

The American dream — like a beloved pair of pants you left in the dryer too long — is shrinking. Their millennial counterparts felt similarly, though they were slightly more bullish on the possibility of the American dream. And even among those who might have achieved the American dream — higher earners with college degrees — life satisfaction has slipped. At the same time, there's a bittersweet parallel running alongside the shrinking of the American dream. But now that the American dream is within reach for these people, it's already shrinking.

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Tuesday suggested that investors can sometimes lose the markets' big picture, and that it's important to go back to the basic principle behind good investing. "We're looking to find good stocks at good prices and buy them. Part of the big picture today is that the Dow Jones Industrial Average is on a nine-day losing streak, he said. Another part of the big picture is that the markets are heavily oversold, according to Cramer. The last part of the big picture includes stocks that have taken such massive hits that investors miss the positives, Cramer said.

CNN —The Federal Trade Commission announced a final rule banning ticketing and short-term rental companies from including hidden junk fees in their total price on Tuesday. Instead, it requires businesses to display the total price, including all additional fees, more prominently than other pricing information. The new rule is part of a broader effort by the FTC under Biden’s administration to combat junk fees. In the last three years, the FTC has announced actions against companies like Invitation Homes and Vonage for charging consumers junk fees. Biden spoke of his intention to crack down on hidden fees in October 2023, when the FTC unveiled the rule’s initial proposal.

Justifying a rate cut in that environment will require some deft communication from Chair Jerome Powell and the committee. Other actions on tapMost Wall Street forecasters see Fed officials raising their expectations for inflation and reducing the expectations for rate cuts in 2025. Officials also are likely to raise their estimate for the "neutral" rate of interest that neither boosts nor restricts growth. That level had been around 2.5% for years — a 2% inflation rate plus 0.5% at the "natural" level of interest — but has crept up in recent months and could cross 3% at this week's update. The "ON RPP" rate acts as a floor for the funds rate and is currently at 4.55%, while the effective funds rate is 4.58%.

In the exit polls, about 1 in 8 voters who described Trump as “too extreme” still voted for him. Likewise, in the VoteCast survey, Trump won 1 in 6 voters who expressed concern that he would steer the country in an authoritarian direction. Trump won almost exactly the same share of voters who said in the VoteCast survey that he lacks the moral character to serve as president. Even among the voter groups most directly affected by these policies, Trump won substantial support from people who disagreed with him. In either case, the result was that Trump won far too many voters who supported legal abortion for Harris to prevail.
