Jumping the pondThe NHL Global Series is not new. In February, the NHL will host its first-ever 4 Nations Face-Off, an international event where league players from Canada, Sweden, Finland and the U.S. will play for their native countries. In 2026, NHL players are planning to participate in the Olympics for the first time since 2014. The hope is that increasing exposure for NHL players on a global stage will be a tailwind for the league.

The pay limit has been in place since the end of a labor dispute that caused the cancellation of the entire 2004-05 NHL season. Sports business experts said the strict salary cap has helped the league's financial health since the full season stoppage. The hard salary cap is a stark difference from Major League Baseball and the National Basketball Association, which have no salary cap and a soft salary cap, respectively. But the hard cap means NHL teams have to be especially diligent. The NHL is planning to start negotiations with the NHLPA in early 2025, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said at this year's NHL Board of Governors meeting.

So why shouldn’t federal employees who are paid with taxpayer dollars be required to be in office?” the source said. Ending remote work across government is being considered a potential “early candidate” for executive orders that members of DOGE will recommend to Trump, the source said. “I can’t abandon this career,” one Library of Congress worker who lives in the Midwest told CNN. Another federal employee who works remotely told CNN that they would have to commute two to three hours to the nearest office. Other targets beyond remote workRemote work isn’t the only cost-cutting measure that is likely to be addressed through executive orders.

A changing ChinaIt was a different world in the late 2000s and early 2010s, when Chinese students first began surging overseas. In 2020, the US revoked visas for more than 1,000 Chinese students and researchers deemed security risks. In January this year, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said in a briefing that “dozens of Chinese nationals, including international students, have been forcibly deported by the US each month.” He decried it as “discriminatory,” urging the US to protect the rights of Chinese students abroad. The Covid yearsThe number of Chinese students in the US plunged during the pandemic and hasn’t rebounded since. “Since the economic sanctions and tech restrictions started in 2018, many (Chinese) students have been sent back home,” one user wrote on Weibo.

Oz’s TV show aired from 2009 until 2022, when he made an unsuccessful bid for Senate. Trump made an appearance on Oz’s television program, “The Dr. Oz Show,” during his 2016 presidential campaign to reveal the results of his physical examination. Kennedy will likely have some influence over who the president-elect chooses for those roles, health policy experts said. Ultimately, Kennedy's influence over immunization policy could lead to an increase in diseases preventable by vaccines, several health policy experts told CNBC. Investors are already bracing for a crackdown on food policy, with shares of processed food companies, such as Pepsi and Coca-Cola , falling on Friday. Seigerman said "there is little precedent in recent history for HHS policy dictating or affecting FDA regulation or approval of drugs." In 2023, pharmaceutical companies spent nearly $3 billion on advertising for the 10 most promoted drugs.

Now may be the time for investors to buy shares of BioNTech , according to Evercore ISI. This "chaos," however, presents a buying opportunity for investors, Evercore ISI Cory Kasimov wrote Tuesday. "The u/g call is a combination of opportunism, value (both relative & absolute), and an increasingly compelling fundamental outlook around the company's deep and staggered oncology pipeline." The airline announced a “first-of-its-kind partnership” with Shake Shack to serve the chain’s cheeseburgers in first class on long-distance domestic flights beginning December 1 on flights out of Delta’s hub in Boston and expanding to other cities throughout 2025. For example, Alaska Airlines created a hot coffee that tastes better in the skies, while United Airlines added cold brew coffee from Illy. Delta has served a generic cheeseburger in first class over the past few years to mostly positive reviews online. And it’s not the first airline to partner with a burger chain — United Airlines once served McDonald’s Happy Meals in the 1990s. The partnership between Delta and Shake Shack marks an expansion of the airline’s relationship with celebrated chef Danny Meyer, who founded the burger brand in 2004.

Kennedy holds a number of controversial views when it comes to public health, including anti-vaccine activism. Historically, Mande said, Congress has been reluctant to provide money to the agency’s food and nutrition program. “I think that is a striking comparison of how hard it is for consumers to make healthy choices, when the food industry is so powerful,” Politi said. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt, has called on more thorough reviews on food coming from abroad and recently compared the processed food industry to the tobacco industry. But whether they are measured by income or educational attainment, President-elect Donald Trump won working-class voters overall while he made strong gains among nonwhite working-class voters like Hispanics and Asian Americans. As recently as 2012, non-college-educated voters were splitting their votes evenly or even slightly in favor of Democrats. But that has left the party’s leaders, donors, operatives and other decision-makers more removed from the lives of low- and middle-income workers, some labor leaders say. But there is widespread frustration that Trump outflanked Democrats to position himself as a champion of working people, as well as dissatisfaction with Democrats not limited to white or male union members. But that policy was not enough to overcome larger societal forces that have led many working-class voters to doubt Democrats’ commitment to their well-being.
