The contract to complete the first of the three systems announced on Thursday is worth about $100 million, Cerebras CEO Andrew Feldman said. "What we're saying is that the $100 million contract takes us through Condor Galaxy 1... That's the unit, the building block."

ANCASH, Peru, July 12 (Reuters) - Archaeologists working in Peru have uncovered a 3,000-year-old sealed corridor dubbed "the condor's passageway" that likely leads to other chambers inside what was once a massive temple complex pertaining to the ancient Chavin culture. Located around 190 miles (306 km) northeast of Lima, the Chavin de Huantar archeological site is among the culture's most important centers, thriving from around 1,500-550 B.C. The temple complex features terraces as well as a network of passageways, which have only recently been discovered. Rick, a Stanford University archeologist, has said much of the temple complex remains to be excavated. The United Nations' educational, scientific and cultural arm UNESCO declared Chavin de Huantar a world heritage site in 1985.

In North America, more than half of 529 bird species have declined, according to one study. Another study of 378 European bird species estimates numbers fell by as much as 19% from 1980-2017. There are birds on mountains, birds in cities, birds in deserts, birds in oceans, birds on farm fields and birds in parking lots. Bird numbers are falling across a broad range of habitats, as these graphs from Europe and North America show. A recovery program has boosted the species' numbers to more than 500, with several hundred living once more in the wild.

For two months this spring, a pair of California condor parents carefully tended to a single, enormous egg. They took turns sitting on the egg to keep it warm, and they routinely rotated the egg, a behavior believed to promote proper chick development. The plastic shell, made with a 3-D printer, was stuffed with sensors designed to surreptitiously monitor conditions inside the condors’ nest. For weeks, the dummy egg tracked the nest temperature, logged the birds’ egg-turning behaviors and recorded the ambient sound. This strategy has several advantages, prompting some pairs to lay a second egg, enabling the zoo to monitor embryo development and protecting the fragile embryos from condor rowdiness.
BRUSSELS, May 10 (Reuters) - Irish airline Ryanair (RYA.I) on Wednesday won its challenge against Lufthansa's (LHAG.DE) state bailout in 2020 triggered by the coronavirus pandemic as Europe's second-top court cited errors in EU competition regulators' decision to approve the state aid. Ryanair and German peer Condor subsequently challenged the EU decision on Lufthansa. They said the EU competition enforcer also failed to require a mechanism incentivising Lufthansa to buy back Germany’s shareholding as quickly as possible and erred by denying that Lufthansa held significant market power at certain airports. The Commission can appeal to the Court of the Justice of the European Union, Europe's top, on points of law. The joined cases are T-34/21 Ryanair v Commission (Lufthansa; Covid-19) & T-87/21 Condor Flugdienst v Commission (Lufthansa; Covid-19).
Nicole Bilderback was the 'friend' role staple of '90s teen dramedy. Bilderback appeared in classic '90s films and TV shows like "Clueless" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." Being Asian didn't hold her back; it helped her stand out, she says. So in other words, I didn't pigeonhole myself as, 'Oh, well, I'm probably only going to read for Asian roles,'" she said. "The majority of the roles that I've portrayed have been roles that were either intended for Caucasian actresses or the ethnicity wasn't specified.

CHUMBIVILCAS, Peru, Dec 27 (Reuters) - Most Christmas ceremonies would be ruined if attendees threw a punch. On Christmas Day, hundreds of residents of Chumbivilcas province in Peru's Cusco region gather to take part in an ancient fighting ritual aimed at settling scores and resolving conflict before the year's end. The ritual has been described as a method of alternative governance outside Peru's justice system. Ronderos, members of a grassroots justice system in Peru's Andean communities, stand by to break up the fighting when necessary. Finally, with scores settled, the fights typically end with a hug, smile or handshake.

“‘The Whale’ was seminal for me, both in my career but also, kind of, for me personally. It was the first time that I had … really personal stuff from my own history and put it into a play,” Hunter said. The story is set in Moscow, Idaho, where Hunter grew up, and, like Charlie, Hunter said he, too, had a fraught relationship with religious fundamentalism and self-medicated his depression with food. “I’m out of the closet, I’m fine now, but that masks a lot of stuff that I just had not processed. I think it’s worth talking about.”While “The Whale” deals with heavy subject matter, Hunter said it’s still a hopeful film.
Previous rounds of sanctions have focused on Ortega, his wife and vice president, Rosario Murillo, and members of their family and inner circle. Together with the Treasury Department’s simultaneous sanctioning of Nicaragua’s General Directorate of Mines, the order all but makes it illegal for Americans to do business with Nicaragua’s gold industry. The Biden administration’s targeting of the gold industry could sap Ortega’s government of one of its biggest sources of revenue. According to Nicaragua’s Central Bank, the country exported a record 348,532 ounces of gold in 2021 and the country’s mining association projects exports totaling 500,000 ounces in 2023. Nicaraguans began fleeing their country in 2018, initially to neighboring Costa Rica, after Ortega violently put down massive street protests.
A driver for a company used by Amazon was convicted of driving while high after crashing into a ditch. An investigation by the newspaper found that Amazon used some companies with unsafe driving scores that had raised red flags at the Department of Transportation. Amazon told the newspaper that the rate of fatalities per vehicle mile for its contractors was about 7% below the industry average in 2020. The truck driver, Dilshod Abdurasulov, was fined for careless driving and still works for MJS. In April Insider followed a truck driver as he traveled cross-country to join a protest against vaccine mandates.
A Condor Riders truck, pictured in a New Jersey State Police photograph, which was involved in a fatal 2020 crash on the New Jersey Turnpike. To evaluate Amazon’s trucking network, The Wall Street Journal analyzed U.S. Transportation Department unsafe driving scores for trucking companies, which are based on traffic citations, such as speeding tickets, and other violations over the previous two years. The DOT is barred from publishing the monthly scores under a 2015 federal law, but the Journal recreated them using the DOT’s own methodology and publicly available data, including a database of truck inspections. DOT officials provided guidance on the analysis.
