Siemens Energy has secured 7.5 billion euros ($8.15 billion) in project-related state guarantees from the German government, hours before announcing a nearly 5 billion euro loss for its fiscal year. Problems with manufacturing faults at its wind turbine subsidiary Siemens Gamesa led Siemens Energy to scrap its profit forecast earlier this year. The guarantees are intended to insure the company's customers on prepayments and execution of contracts in order to shore up its huge 112 billion euro order book. On Wednesday, the company reported an annual net loss of 4.6 billion euro for its fiscal year, compounded by a fourth-quarter net loss of 870 million euros. The company denied the fiscal guarantees constitute "state aid," with Siemens Energy CEO Christian Bruch telling CNBC on Wednesday that there is no cash involved.

Zambia was the first African country to default in the COVID-19 era, in late 2020, but its restructuring process has been beset by delays. International bondholders also complained they were left out of the process, which started with drawn-out negotiations with bilateral creditors including China. Zambia's three international bonds rose sharply after the announcement, adding as much as 3.9 cents on the dollar, Tradeweb and MarketAxess data showed. The committee of bondholders owns or controls 40% of the outstanding bonds, Zambia's finance ministry added. Earlier this month, Zambia agreed a memorandum of understanding with its official creditors, including China and members of the Paris Club of creditor nations, to restructure about $6.3 billion of debt.

Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio was removed as GOP nominee for speaker in a secret ballot after he lost his third bid on Friday. Rep. Kevin McCarthy, the previous speaker, was ousted more than two weeks ago. Photo: Valerie Plesch/BloombergHouse Republicans haven’t settled on a consensus candidate for speaker, but many emerged from a meeting Monday with guarded optimism that they will be able to rally behind whoever clinches the nomination after three weeks of public feuding. Lawmakers met Monday night to hear proposals from candidates who explained their strategy for unifying a fractured group and executing legislative priorities such as cutting federal spending and increasing border security. A GOP vote to select the party’s nominee is scheduled for Tuesday morning, with a floor vote of the full House expected in coming days.

LONDON, Sept 25 (Reuters) - Red Bull were able to celebrate their second Formula One title double in a row in Japan at the weekend, even if Max Verstappen must wait until October to be confirmed as a triple champion. The fact that Perez is now the only driver who can mathematically beat Verstappen to the title meant Red Bull had done the double for a sixth time. "Only a Red Bull driver can win the championship which is a great way to go into the next few races." That means Verstappen needs only three points to be champion even if the Mexican bags a maximum score at Lusail. It has been 36 races since Verstappen last came away from a weekend without scoring at least three points.

After all, the United States does not do deals with its well-meaning friends to free hostages or wrongly detained Americans. There is no perfect deal to free imprisoned Americans and the agreement with Iran is especially divisive. In this way dealing with US enemies can be a sign of political strength rather than weakness. Criticism from the likes of former President Donald Trump and Pence is politicized in the context of their presidential campaigns – and ignores their own deals to free Americans. Moscow is subsequently currently driving a relentless bargain over the fate of imprisoned Americans Paul Whelan and Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich.

Priscilla is also 14, a fact the film doesn’t shy away from. That aesthetic choice smartly steers “Priscilla” away from Luhrmann’s movie (which was much more interested in Elvis the performer) and further grounds the film in Priscilla’s perspective. The movie may also lack big musical scenes because Presley’s estate was unwilling to support the film or authorize the use of his songbook. Luhrmann’s hagiography was estate-approved and portrayed the singer as the innocent pawn of his craven manager, Col. Tom Parker. “Priscilla” shows how manipulative Elvis himself could be.

The ruling Socialists (PSOE) and far-left Sumar won 153 but have more possibilities for negotiating support from small Basque and Catalan separatist parties, as they did following 2019's election. Sanchez could win over left-wing separatist party Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC). Junts Secretary General Jordi Turull said on Monday he would use the "window of opportunity" created by the election impasse to achieve Catalan independence. Turull was among the nine Catalan jailed separatist leaders pardoned by Sanchez in 2021 for their role in the 2017 independence bid. Puigdemont, who still wields considerable influence within Junts, said in mid-July the party would not support Sanchez because he was unreliable.

The review is merely to note that the beginning of a potential bull market is a process, not a moment, occurring as the weight of the evidence gradually shifts in favor of the optimists. A new bull market, even if in place, doesn't always mean a timely sprint to hefty further gains. In a bear market, that's toppy; while in a bull market backdrop, such a level of optimism is fairly routine. In a bear market, 14 is "too low," In a bull market, it's middling. The S & P 500 has built a cushion with which to absorb routine pullbacks without jeopardizing the broader trend.

Nikki Haley took a swipe at President Joe Biden's age, suggesting he won't live past 86. She told Fox that Biden will likely die before he reaches the end of a second term. Biden, who turns 81 in November, would be 86 by 2028 — the end of his second term, if he's reelected. A February memo from the White House physician states that Biden is being treated for acid reflux, spinal arthritis, atrial fibrillation, and high cholesterol. Representatives for Haley and the White House did not immediately respond to Insider's requests for comment sent outside regular business hours.
NEW YORK, April 4 (Reuters) - 08German thermostat maker Tado has secured 12 million euros ($13.08 million) from U.S. investor S2G Ventures, it said on Tuesday, two months after it raised funds to expand in an increasingly energy-conscious European market. The need to actively manage household heating, often fuelled by gas, became a top political priority last year after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Data gathered by Tado from hundreds of households where it has installed meters suggested Europeans were heeding calls from politicians to conserve energy. The top-up bolsters the Munich-based company's fundraising to 55 million euros ($59.93 million) so far in 2023 when it expects to reach profitability. The funding announcement comes weeks after major start-up supporter Silicon Valley Bank collapsed, prompting panic among venture-stage firms, particularly in North America.
Morgan Stanley analyst Manan Gosalia, in a report earlier this week, set a target price of $54 for First Republic shares in a best-case scenario. "I have not considered or discussed anything having to do with blanket insurance or guarantees of deposits," she said. The Morgan Stanley report considered that a potential extension of FDIC insurance could bring a majority of First Republic's customers back. Even if it clinches a cash infusion, the lender will probably need to take losses on securities in its so-called held-to-maturity portfolio, the Morgan Stanley analysts wrote. In the worst-case scenario, First Republic's shares would sink to just $1, Morgan Stanley analysts estimated.
