The fast food giant is celebrating Monday's National Cheeseburger Day by discounting one of its most popular menu items: the Double Cheeseburger. Users who open the app will be prompted to take advantage of the National Cheeseburger Day promotion, and the discount will be automatically applied at checkout. It's the latest app-based promotion from McDonald's, which in July gave out free fries in honor of National French Fry Day. But the 50 cent burger isn't the cheapest burger being offered by a fast food chain on Monday. Wendy's is one-upping McDonald's by offering a Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger from Sept. 18 through Sept. 22.

New York’s civic leaders and arts administrators have spoken for two decades of the importance of building a haven of artistic creation on a site that had become synonymous with tragedy and death. “Here, on this very site, where so much loss and devastation took place,” said Michael R. Bloomberg, the billionaire former mayor who is chairman of the institution’s board, “the arts will bring a special sense of hope for the future.”Various ideas for the space percolated and fizzled for years, until Ronald O. Perelman, the billionaire businessman whom the building is named after, jump-started the project with a $75 million donation. It was Mr. Bloomberg who brought the project to fruition, contributing the largest portion of money: $130 million. Although it is Mr. Perelman’s name on the building, Mr. Bloomberg was at the center of much attention Thursday night, posing with benefactors and celebrities like Michael Douglas and Liev Schreiber on a red carpet at a cocktail hour before the performance, where guests sipped champagne and ate miniature cheeseburgers and pigs in blankets.

Mark Zuckerberg says he's eating 4,000 calories per day, 1.6 times more than the recommended intake. Apparently this includes McDonald's staples like the Quarter Pounder, fries, and McFlurry. After McDonald's posted on Threads for followers' favorite orders, Zuckerberg responded: "20 nuggets, a quarter pounder, large fries, Oreo McFlurry, apple pie, and maybe some cheeseburgers for later?" But Zuck said he needed around 4,000 calories a day to maintain his weight during his current training regime. Meta didn't respond to Insider's request for comment to confirm if their fitness-loving boss did go ahead with his McDonald's order.

WASHINGTON — It’s shocking how easy it is to imagine Donald Trump campaigning for the presidency from prison. Maybe he’d even be able to smuggle in his special Tang-colored hair bleach. It wouldn’t be the first time someone tried for the White House from the Big House. In 1920, after being imprisoned on sedition charges for excoriating American involvement in World War I, which he considered a capitalistic war, Eugene Debs won about 900,000 votes as the Socialist Party nominee. “I will be a candidate at home in seclusion,” he joked when asked how he would campaign.

The US cow population fell 3% last year while beef cows decreased to their lowest level since 1962, according to the Department of Agriculture. The total cow population in the country fell 3% to 89.3 million in 2022, according to a Department of Agriculture cattle inventory report published Tuesday. The number of milk cows rose slightly but beef cows plunged 4% to just under 29 million – the lowest total since records started in 1962. The fall in US cow numbers will likely be felt in diners and kitchens, with lower beef supplies encouraging farmers to raise prices and those then being passed on to Americans buying burgers or steaks. "What Tuesday's report solidifies is that not only do we have 'fewer' beef cows in the industry than compared to years past, but also that we have the fewest beef cows ever recorded," DTN livestock analyst ShayLe Stewart said.
Last holiday season, McDonald's leaned on singer Mariah Carey's starpower and discounts to drive customers to their mobile app. The chain is also offering exclusive access to branded merch releases and deals on food, like a 50-cent double cheeseburger. The three-week-long promotion, which began Monday, is part of the company's broader digital strategy to drive traffic to its mobile app through seasonal promotions and create recurring revenue without sacrificing profitability. In recent years, restaurant companies have turned to loyalty programs to drive downloads of their mobile app and convince customers to keep coming back. For comparison, Starbucks , which has had a loyalty program for more than a decade, reported 28.7 million active U.S. members during its latest quarter.
Insider's Bianca Chan explored this trend with a piece on how cloud providers like AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud are reimagining themselves as business consultants. Many of the biggest cloud providers have stood up teams focused on interfacing with the C-suite to advise them on how a move to the cloud can be an opportunity to overhaul things. It's not hard to see how this could end up being big business for the cloud providers. Cloud providers still have a long way to go to be a real threat to consultants, but there is potential there. [1/5] Workers prepare a plant-based polony used as an alternative or meat substitute at meat processor Feinschmecker, in Germiston, in the East Rand region of Johannesburg, South Africa, October 11, 2022. That could be heartening for climate scientists, who say shifting diets from emissions-heavy meat and dairy towards more plant-based foods is vital to the fight against climate change. Plant-based meat substitutes are growing by 6.5% a year and sales are expected to reach $561 million by 2023, according to Research and Markets - more than half Africa's share of a global market forecast to hit $162 billion by 2030. But the popularity of veggie alternatives would have been unthinkable even a decade ago and the market is outstripping forecast growth for meat. She gave up meat over climate concerns and her diabetes.
But four decades ago, when the first Happy Meal debuted, the company didn’t quite get it. They didn’t immediately embrace it,” Bob Bernstein, an advertising executive who created the Happy Meal in the late 1970s, said in a video interview from his Kansas City office, which is decked out with Happy Meal memorabilia and original art. The meal’s name was an offshoot of a 1960s McDonald’s jingle, in which it called itself the “happy place.” “It’s such a happy place / Hap, hap, hap, happy place,” it went. For some reason, the company’s corporate offices outside Chicago were reluctant to roll out the Happy Meal nationally. Mario Anzuoni/ReutersIn the 1990s, Beanie Babies, Transformers and Power Rangers Happy Meal toys were massive hits for McDonald’s.

We were able to walk through this unique ecosystem thanks to the Volo Bog Interpretive Trail, a floating boardwalk that wound through the park. For a few minutes at least, bog birch, sphagnum moss, highbush blueberry and water lilies replaced traffic, electrical lines, agricultural fields and subdivisions. It was like a little outpost of Canada’s boreal forests in the Chicago suburbs. The trails were even long enough that my children started complaining about all the nature they had to walk through. Clocking in at 43.1 acres, Ferson Creek Fen Nature Preserve was a sliver of bird-filled wilderness tucked along the Fox River.
