With massive corporations including Alphabet , Meta , Apple , Microsoft and Amazon set to report earnings next week, CNBC's Jim Cramer on Friday urged investors to keep a level head. "Just please remember, the first move's been the wrong move almost half the time since this earnings season began. Monday starts off the week with earnings from Ford . Tuesday brings McDonald's earnings report, and Cramer said to expect "a full airing of the e-coli situation," but that it is too early to tell how much damage it will do to the fast food chain. The monster week for earnings will continue into Thursday, as both Apple and Amazon will report after the bell.

Three Democratic senators are asking McDonald’s about its menu price hikes in recent years, arguing that the increases are higher than they should be — even with inflation and rising operating costs. McDonald’s prices have raised eyebrows. It also asked whether McDonald’s executives received bonuses or other incentive-based compensation from 2020 to 2024 and whether any incentives were based on executives’ ability to increase per-customer profits. Large corporations “owe consumers transparency when they hike menu prices,” Wyden said in a statement to NBC News. “Fast food chains, like McDonald’s, are raking in profits while families struggle to buy meals that are meant to be affordable and accessible.”

Jim Cramer says not to panic over higher bond yields

CNBC's Jim Cramer examined Monday's market action and said investors shouldn't be too concerned about rising bond yields. "Stocks have soared with bond yields at these levels before; in fact, they've soared with the 30-year at 5%, they've soared with the 30-year at 6%, so let's stop it with the jeremiads." The indexes ticked lower on Monday as bond yields jumped, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average losing 0.8% and the S&P 500 dipping 0.18%. But Cramer noted that the stock market has "had a fabulous run," even as bond yields have been creeping up. Cramer acknowledged that some investors, particularly traders with a more short-term view, are inclined to automatically trim stocks when bond yields rise.

S & P 500 money is oblivious to stock valuations of any kind and ignorant to upgrades and downgrades. The Lilliputian sellers regularly fail to do damage when matched with the oblivious index money. A 4% 2-year note isn't competitive to the magnet of the S & P 500 and its kin. That's emblematic of what happens with a big buyback without stock-based compensation (something many tech firms use that renders moot the S & P 500 inflows). Because of the way that the S & P 500 money is divvied up, the share base becomes overwhelmingly index-fund based and the index fund shareholders do not sell.

So there’s no way we could enforce that order.”Lujan Grisham issued the temporary order, originally a 30-day ban, in September 2023 after an 11-year-old boy was shot and killed in an Albuquerque park. On Oct. 21, the Loan Prime Rate will decrease by 20 to 25 basis points, the official Xinhua news agency quoted Pan as saying. The benchmark seven-day reverse repurchase rate will also be lowered by 20 basis points and the medium-term lending facility rate reduced by 30 basis points, People's Bank of China Governor Pan Gongsheng told a financial forum in Beijing. At the financial forum on Friday, Pan also warned against any illegal fund flows into the stock market. Investors should take hold of SM Energy ahead of its earnings report, according to TD Cowen. Analyst Gabe Daoud upgraded his rating on the stock to buy from hold. "SM remains a technical leader in the Midland Basin with '23 oil productivity ranking first among operators and '24 not far behind," Daoud said. Positioning in financial stocks is light relative to other sectors, Morgan Stanley says. AdvertisementInvestors are lingering in defensive trades that don't take advantage of the economy's strength, Morgan Stanley said, highlighting opportunities in underinvested sectors. The firm — which just last week upgraded cyclical stocks to "overweight" relative to defensives — described the financials group as particularly attractive. Morgan Stanley said net exposure to financials was in the bottom 15th percentile of a historical data series that goes back to 2010. Morgan Stanley noted that this weakness lowered earnings-season expectations for investors, making it easier for major lenders to outperform forecasts.

Warren Buffett walks the floor and meets with Berkshire Hathaway shareholders ahead of their annual meeting in Omaha, Nebraska on May 3rd, 2024. Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway continued to increase its stake in SiriusXM , now owning 32% of the New York-based satellite radio company. Berkshire hiked its bet after billionaire John Malone's Liberty Media completed its deal in early September to combine its tracking stocks with the rest of the audio entertainment company. Buffett's firm first bought Liberty Media's trackers in 2016 and started piling into SiriusXM's tracking stocks in the beginning of 2024 after the deal announcement in a likely merger arbitrage play. Meanwhile, the Liberty transaction, which reduced share count by 12%, could cause the company to pause stock buybacks until 2027, which will likely weigh on shares, the analyst said.
