I've worked in HR for 10 years, specifically, I work with senior leaders to ensure all sorts of HR compliance is in place. When it comes to HR, people are usually curious about how to stand out at work. After working in HR for 10 years, here are three things I'd never do in the workplace. In my HR role, I've noticed, that successful people tend to be very direct about their accomplishments and more vocal, whereas super-humble individuals tend not to talk about their achievements or advocate for themselves as much. AdvertisementAs a result, I've seen more negative things come out of sticking around too long at company functions than positive ones.

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — With the death last spring of Portland's beloved Valentine's Day bandit, some wondered if the mysterious appearance of red hearts around Maine's largest city would continue. Hundreds of red hearts appeared on storefronts, mailboxes and even trash bins on Wednesday, with giant banners defying gusty winds at DiMillo’s floating restaurant and on construction scaffolding in the Old Port. “Long live the Valentine’s Day Bandit,” said Cary Tyson, executive director of Portland Downtown. On the website, people can download and print the simple, red hearts and become a bandit. It wasn’t until she started school, she said, that she learned that other people didn’t celebrate Valentine’s Day with the same fervor.

But as the special election to succeed the disgraced former congressman has made painfully clear to Democrats, Santos’ victory was not a fluke or anomaly. Nassau County in 2024 is sharply divided and – in a word – angry. The year before, Democrat Laura Curran, the top official in Nassau County, was ousted by Republican Bruce Blakeman. This post originally appeared in the Insider Today newsletter. In today's big story, we're looking at how a Google loophole brings advertisements for illegal drugs hosted on defaced government websites to the top of search results. Previously, that wasn't an issue since these web pages never appeared in Google searches because website owners restricted Google from indexing them. AdvertisementAdvertisementThe result is people using internal search functions to create webpages advertising drugs on websites viewed as trustworthy by Google. To combat burnout, it will take more than vacations and a few yoga classes, she told Insider. To really fix what's wrong with work, Fisher said, we need to have deeper, more thoughtful conversations. Fisher said employers need to push back on the idea that workers who cut through piles of work must be in good shape. I was on my way to burnout and the downstream impacts of my actions and behaviors on my team were detrimental," she said. Her own journey toward a more balanced approach to work leaves Fisher optimistic that broader change is possible.

Over 800,000 student-loan borrowers are set to start seeing their debt wiped out. It's part of a one-time account adjustment for borrowers on income-driven repayment plans. The future of the relief is uncertain after conservative groups filed a lawsuit to block it. On Monday, student-loan companies are set to begin discharging the debt of 804,000 borrowers who have qualified for $39 billion in debt relief — part of the first batch of borrowers affected by the Education Department's one-time account adjustment for income-driven repayment plans. "At the start of this Administration, millions of borrowers had earned loan forgiveness but never received it.

The lawsuits concern relief for borrowers on income-driven repayment and those who applied for borrower defense. On top of that, borrowers are still reeling from the June Supreme Court decision that struck down President Joe Biden's plan to cancel up to $20,000 in student debt for federal borrowers. The announcement was part of the department's one-time account adjustment to ensure borrowers payments are up to date, and those who completed more than the required payments would receive a refund. But just days later, a separate debt relief measure got blocked in court. The department has already notified borrowers of that relief, and it expects more will qualify.

CNN —Ryan Gosling may or may not be your ideal Ken in the new “Barbie” movie, but one of the film’s casting directors has shared who else might have gotten the role. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Allison Jones — who cast the hit film along with Lucy Bevan — talked about who else might have joined Barbie in her dream house. Like the line of dolls the movie is based on, there are multiple Barbies and Kens portrayed by a diverse cast of actors. And that meant Bowen Yang, Dan Levy, and Ben Platt were out of the running to play Ken. “Simu Liu was dying to be a Ken, God bless him,” Jones said of the actor who was eventually cast as one of the Kens.

Mary Prescott was just laid off from Meta after the company announced it's cutting 10,000 more jobs. I fully assumed I'd be laid off because I'd only been at Meta since the summer. Unfortunately, he wasn't given any information about these layoffs either, and he actually got laid off today as well.
Recent price trends imply better profitability for U.S. farmers to plant corn over soybeans this year, and both analysts and USDA agree corn acres will rise above the year-ago levels. USDA’s 91 million corn acres were nearly identical to the trade’s 90.9 million and above last year’s 88.6 million. I polled Twitter on Wednesday for the most likely surprise in this year’s intentions, offering choices of corn acres high or low or soybean acres high or low. Those long-term tables also had 2023 wheat plantings at 47.5 million acres, soybeans at 87 million and corn at 92 million. USDA’s trend corn yield is calculated with planting progress and summer weather assumptions.
