Of the 175 key ETFs that we track, just one made a new all-time high on Tuesday – the iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF (IGV) . IGV, thus, was the first major technology ETF to hit new highs after a very turbulent past few months. Before Tuesday, IGV's last all-time high happened way back in November 21 (nearly three years ago), when the ETF hit an intra-day high of $89.76. For some context, while the SPDR Technology ETF (XLK) hit a low on the same day in November 202222, its snapback unfolded much more quickly. XLK hit a new all-time high way back in July 2023 and has kept going.

The Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) was the worst performing sector ETF in September. The XLE ETF (and many of its holdings) has been trying to etch out a bottom for a number of weeks, and the charts we're reviewing today suggest that momentum finally could be turning positive. XLE has been making lower lows and lower highs since peaking in March. Both prior times, eventually logging a higher low gave XLE the firepower it needed to finally punch through a key downtrend line. Recently, the higher lows have been marginal, but considering that we haven't seen a material lower low in nearly five years, it's noteworthy.

Bitcoin rallied on Thursday, but if trading this year is any guide, this pop will be one to fade. Bitcoin is down 13% from its March 13 record and ether has tumbled 34% in the same period. With a year-to-date gain of 50%, bitcoin is considered to be in a bull cycle that began in March 2023. The most recent Bitcoin halving took place in April, and the post-halving highs historically don't come until about 18 months after the supply cutting event . Between the popularity of bitcoin ETFs that launched in January, the slowing of the bitcoin supply and a slew of other macro and micro catalysts, many traders are holding out for a price surge.

Clinique's moisturizer looked and felt very sheer. I bought a smaller jar to test out Clinique's moisturizer since it was so expensive. Jen GlantzSince the 2.5-ounce jar of Clinique's moisturizer was on the pricey side, and I wasn't sure I'd like it, I purchased a smaller 0.05-ounce container for $17. But the label says the product is fragrance-free and the odor wasn't noticeable after about 30 minutes. My skin felt more matte than wet, which is what I'd prefer.

Traders instantly react to the data (sometimes wildly so), especially when the actual numbers are distinctly different than estimates. Thus, historically, XLU has been correlated with the direction of treasury bonds (which move in the opposite direction of bond yields). Here's a chart with XLU and the TLT 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF, which we're using since it's the most widely traded treasury bond ETF. From 2022 through 2023, XLU and TLT moved in the same direction more often than not. Another reason is simply that investors are aggressively seeking yield producing instruments, with the understanding that bond yields were destined to fall.

In recent weeks, more stocks are participating in the market's move to record or near-record highs. "Market breadth breakouts support the bullish case," Bank of America technical analyst Stephen Suttmeier said in a 29-page report Monday. Suttmeier relied on the advance/decline line , a measure of the number of stocks rising in price on a given day versus the number of stocks that have fallen in price, for his analysis. Advancers also beat decliners on the Nasdaq Stock Market by about 2,500 to 1,000, or a ratio of 2.5 to 1. "Strong advance-decline (A-D) lines show solid market breadth [and] suggest a 'rotational' versus 'toppy' trading pattern since July," Suttmeier told clients.

Before we get into the charts, it's important to discuss the process of choosing to write about TSLA this week. In other words, oftentimes, the most comprehensive method to locate constructive trade set-ups is reviewing a big list and taking note of the charts that look attractive. That's why I frequently intentionally do NOT look at the chart's stock symbol while going through a long list. I want the chart, and only the chart, to be the factor that influences my decision to potentially buy or sell it. Thus, seeing the above potential breakout attempt come to fruition would have a meaningful impact on its longer-term trend, too.

The Real Estate Select Sector ETF (XLRE) is the worst performing sector ETF in 2024, up about 3.5% right now. The ETF is net-flat going all the way back to September '22. But, it has been the best sector ETF in July, with a monthly gain of nearly 8%. The answer is a resounding yes… if the breakout in the SPDR S & P Homebuilders ETF (XHB) to new highs is any indication. And if rates are going to keep declining, then XLRE will have a strong tailwind to potentially catch up to XHB once again.

For Frank Cappelleri, technical analysis — reading charts to identify patterns in stocks and other assets — is not an art or a science. (Pro subscribers can watch the full interview, including Cappelleri's outlook on the stock market, here .) During earnings season, we can gain value from the charts by judging how stocks react to their reports. We are especially mindful of support and resistance levels, watching for breakouts and breakdowns as technical catalysts. This supports upside follow-through for IQV in the weeks ahead towards resistance from a Fibonacci retracement level near $258. We ultimately expect the stock to retest final resistance, near $285, with a long-term time horizon. Long-term support on the chart is defined by the weekly cloud model, which rises to roughly $215 next month.

And vice versa, if the index is high, it signals high volatility and fearful investors, indicating that the market may be reaching a low. Here, he can see different metrics for stocks, allowing him to watch for signals he likes to trade on. He also looks at the stock's day's volume; if it rises above 25% of its 50-day volume, it's another likely trade. But perhaps one of the best signals that a breakout is about to really outperform the market is those with very high volume relative to the past two years.

In a more defensive environment, we instead gravitate to lower volatility, higher dividend-paying stocks. By October, AT & T had pounded out a series of higher lows, confirming a rotation to a bullish trend. As a long-term trend gauge, I would assume that any price action above this trendline is still within the context of a bullish phase. I've also drawn a short-term trendline in pink, lining up the price lows in April, May, and June. Since an uptrend is formed by a pattern of higher highs and higher lows, then a consistent short-term uptrend would most likely remain above this trendline.

The iShares U.S. Pharmaceuticals ETF (IHE) is up 9% since July 2015, when it hit a fresh all-time high. All of the back-and-forth movement since 2015 has produced what could be a monstrous bullish pattern. But we're trying to capture a major breakout from an area that's done next to nothing in nearly a decade. INVA, on the other hand, bottomed in March 2023, and just recently broke out of a large inverse head & shoulders pattern. But investors focusing on those big three may be missing some compelling breakouts in the sector, according to the charts. Microsoft is up a pedestrian 10% since then, but combined, they've helped propel the SPDR Technology ETF (XLK) to a new all-time high. Indeed, there's nothing wrong with riding a trend, but many times a long uptrend starts with a pattern breakout. And starting in 2023, the following combination has produced the best results: rallying from a higher low as the stock's 14-day Relative Strength Index bottoms near 50. It's never perfect, but this setup has presented favorable risk-reward scenarios more often than not, and each ensuing bounce eventually resulted in higher highs.

Despite the wild ride from a performance and volatility perspective, over the last six months, BTC has continued to do one thing very well – adhere to the technicals. It never violated the breakout zone from October'23 and hit the target by early March. Each prior falling wedge pattern breakout was accompanied by its RSI moving to overbought territory. Two Bullish Patterns on One Chart The second and third bullish formations appear on this chart. To reiterate, these targets are attained simply by adding the height of each pattern to the breakout points.

That's not a lot of wiggle room if the stock reacts negatively to earnings: if the stock undercuts $915 (and stays below it), the breakout would be nullified. In other words, if an upside gap is filled this time instead, the market could be telling us that something has changed. In other words, NVDA has had many years of success both as a company and as a stock. It would take a lot more than a reaction to a single earnings report to change that. BEFORE MAKING ANY FINANCIAL DECISIONS, YOU SHOULD STRONGLY CONSIDER SEEKING ADVICE FROM YOUR OWN FINANCIAL OR INVESTMENT ADVISOR.

Let's take a look at how gold stocks have fared and see how recent price action suggests the uptrend is nowhere near completed. While gold stocks tend to be very much tied to the performance of the underlying commodity, there will often be periods of dislocation, where gold and gold miners appear to be more disconnected. This appears to have occurred in the first quarter, when physical gold was fairly flat, but gold miners were sold off into a February low. The chart of Royal Gold (RGLD) shows that the early breakouts are beginning to occur. Given the strength in the charts of physical gold and gold miners, this group may serve as a compelling opportunity going into the summer months.

Currently, the S & P 500 just endured four 1% declines in a month for the first time since last October (5). The index's 20-day moving average has undercut the 50-day moving average for the first time since November, and there's a noticeable potential three-month topping pattern in play, as well. The 20-day moving average just crossed above the 50-day moving average, and both lines have started to curl higher. To drive this point home further, the upside-down version of the current S & P 500 looks a lot like… the S & P 500 (right-side-up) from last fall, as the index was coming back from the August-October correction. Here's a picture of the biggest bullish pattern from 2023, which was triggered soon after the 20-day moving average crossed over the 50-day moving average.
