Shares of Palantir have surged 181% this year as investors bet on its potential in the booming artificial intelligence race. The company, founded in 2003, is already making strides in AI, even lending its tools to hospitals . In its latest earnings release in early May, CEO Alex Karp called demand for Palantir's AI platform, which allows commercial and government sectors to use LLMs with their own private data, "without precedent." While some analysts see promise in Palantir's AI capabilities, many remain cautious on the immediate profit contribution of the technology and view the stock as ripe for a pullback. In a note to clients in May, Morgan Stanley's Keith Weiss noted that the rally in Palantir shares and premium valuation creates an unfavorable near-term risk-reward.

It was shown in May and in fuller Phase 3 clinical trial results released at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference on Monday to delay the disease’s progression. More than 6 million Americans are estimated to have Alzheimer’s disease, with about 1 million estimated to be in the early symptomatic stages where these drugs have shown benefit. Both Leqembi and donanemab work by clearing buildups of a protein in the brain called amyloid, a hallmark of Alzheimer’s. It’s been a hypothesis that treating Alzheimer’s earlier with amyloid-clearing drugs would yield better results; Skovronsky said the donanemab trial bore that out. “We could look at people who had mild cognitive impairment, MCI, which is the earliest stage, versus mild Alzheimer’s versus moderate Alzheimer’s,” Skovronsky explained.

The virus is a common respiratory infection that usually causes mild, cold-like symptoms, but more severe cases in older adults and children. Pfizer and GSK on Wednesday both presented new clinical trial data to the panel, which provided a first glimpse of their shots' durability after one RSV season. That's down from more than 85% at the end of the first season in older adults. For less severe RSV disease, efficacy declined to 67.2% over two seasons from 82% after one season. The shots would help the U.S. combat the upcoming RSV season in the fall after an unusually severe RSV season last year.

BlackRock says (BLK.N) it's been buying Treasuries in anticipation of an economic slowdown and a protracted debt ceiling fight. 2/ RAINY DAY DEFAULT PROTECTIONCredit default swaps (CDS), which work like insurance against a debt default, are seeing strong demand. "If debt ceiling concerns grow we think markets will price in more Fed rate cut expectations, which means 5-year yields would fall," said Miyairi. 5/ ALL THAT GLITTERSDeutsche Bank strategist Robin Winkler says a good hedge may be buying gold against the dollar, as it has the tightest relationship with newsflow around the debt ceiling. In August 2011, as a debt ceiling crisis prompted a U.S. credit rating downgrade, gold rose 11% that month alone.
While an IPO is not on the immediate horizon, the company is taking a step in the direction of preparing for one, hiring Meta's investor relations head to further build out its engagement with current and future shareholders. Deborah Crawford, who has served as Meta 's vice president of investor relations for more than eight years, is being appointed as Fanatics' head of investor relations, a new position at the company. Prior to Meta, Crawford was head of investor relations for Netflix, where she helped initiate the streaming company's first formal investor relations function, according to Fanatics. Schiffman declined to comment on the potential timing of a Fanatics IPO but confirmed the company has a goal of going public. Fanatics has seen its valuation and investor roster drastically expand in recent years, which has also helped to fuel IPO chatter.
Johnson & Johnson will price shares of its consumer-health spinoff Kenvue at $20 to $23 in an initial public offering later this year, the company said in a regulatory filing Monday. J&J said it launched a roadshow for the IPO of more than 151 million shares of common stock. Kenvue estimates the IPO will generate net proceeds of around $3.15 million, the filing said. Kenvue expects to grant underwriters a 30-day option to purchase up to an additional 22.6 million shares of stock to cover any over-allotments, according to the filing. The company noted it will own 1.7 billion shares of Kenvue's common stock after the IPO, representing 91.9% of the spinoff's total shares.
The National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index rose to 45 in April, a one-point gain. Builders in the report cited a lack of listings on the resale market, which gave them an unusually strong edge. Slightly lower mortgage rates are also helping demand — though rates are still higher than they were a year ago. "Builders note that additional declines in mortgage rates, to below 6%, will price-in further demand for housing," said Alicia Huey, NAHB chairman and a custom homebuilder and developer from Birmingham, Alabama. It marked the first time both of the indicators were positive since June, when mortgage rates really took off.
Other data on Monday showed manufacturing activity in New York state increased for the first time in five months. Housing and manufacturing have been hammered by the Federal Reserve's fastest interest rate hiking campaign since the 1980s. The survey's measure of current sales conditions rose two points to 51. The survey's measure of future business conditions rose to 6.6 from 2.9 in March. The capital spending index rose 3.2 points to 16.5, while the technology spending measure fell to 10.3 from 13.3 in March.
Apple's widely anticipated mixed-reality headset may not be ready in time for the company's June WWDC event, top Apple analyst, TFI Securities' Ming-Chi Kuo, wrote on Twitter Thursday. The Apple Watch was announced in Sept. 2014 but didn't launch until April 2015. Apple expects to sell at most 300,000 headsets in 2023, Kuo wrote. The best hope for Apple is that headset growth matches the trajectory of the Apple Watch, evolving from a "small portion" of the company's business into a "centerpiece," Gurman wrote. Kuo is regarded as one of the most accurate Apple analysts, and has reported on Apple's shifting approach to the launch of its long-awaited headsets.

The plans could add to criticism of the company from lawmakers who are scheduled to explore the cost of the shots at a hearing Wednesday.
What makes it a good idea to buy a car right now? It's important to remember that car buying is probably never going back to "normal." Used prices are expected to go back up again, creating a short window of opportunity. As for interest rates: It's hard to say what will happen in the long run. A cash buyer ready to undertake sufficient due diligence can certainly get a solid deal in today's car market."

To be sure, food manufacturers have to factor in costs of labor and transportation, which remain elevated compared with a few years ago. Anyway, it isn’t just food companies taking advantage of the inflationary moment. Many food companies are forecasting that they might slow down or pause price increases — but not lower them, Danielle explains. But [companies] have, I think, taken price increases that exceed that,” said Mark Lang, an associate professor of marketing at the University of Tampa who specializes in food marketing. Lower prices could, for example, make people think food quality has gone down — or make them think they were paying too much in the first place.

The Group of Seven (G7), which includes the United States, Britain, Germany and France, agreed in September to enforce a low price on sales of Russian oil. And with just three weeks to go, time is running out to fully convince the shipping services industry it will work. Concerns are centred around a scenario in which insurers discover that oil in transit at sea, which was believed to have been sold below the price cap, was in fact sold above it. The official spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak about the matter. "This would be a bad development as no one will want uninsured ships sitting off coasts," he added.

Many companies that have shifted enterprise-technology tools into the cloud in recent years, in part as a cost-saving measure, say those investments have yet to pay off. Rather than run software and systems in their own hardware, commercial cloud users tap computing capabilities from providers such as Amazon.com Inc. and Microsoft Corp. They are also turning to multiple cloud providers, rather than relying on one cloud, for different systems and applications for different business areas. “Many first movers expected significant IT cost efficiency from their cloud investments,” said Barry Brunsman, a principal in KPMG’s CIO Advisory group. “You really do need to not just take it for granted that cloud is where you should head,” she said.
