The Food and Drug Administration on Thursday said the active ingredient in Eli Lilly's weight loss drug Zepbound is no longer in shortage, a decision that will eventually bar compounding pharmacies from making cheaper, unbranded versions of the injection. Zepbound and other weight loss drugs are not covered by many insurance plans, but Eli Lilly's diabetes counterpart Mounjaro is. It's the latest in a high-stakes dispute between compounding pharmacies and the FDA over a shortage of tirzepatide, the active ingredient in both Zepbound and Mounjaro. When a brand-name medication is in shortage, compounding pharmacies can prepare copies of the drug if they meet certain requirements under federal law.

Funding expires at the end of Friday, when the House and Senate are hoping to adjourn for the Christmas, Hanukkah and New Year holidays. And the Democratic-run Senate would need unanimous agreement to skip procedural hurdles and pass it in time. The legislation would throw a messy new shutdown deadline into President-elect Donald Trump’s first 100 days in office. Government funding is subject to the Senate’s 60-vote threshold, so they would still need Democratic support to pass it. For that reason, some Republicans preferred to finish the job earlier and take the current fiscal year’s funding task off Trump’s plate.

CNN —A women-only art installation accused of being “discriminatory” by a disgruntled man who was denied entry is reopening Thursday having successfully fought for its legal right to exist. The Ladies Lounge, at the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) in Tasmania, Australia, was created five years ago by artist Kirsha Kaechele, the wife of the museum’s founder and owner David Walsh. The installation, complete with lavish decor and a butler serving champagne, carried on uninterrupted until Jason Lau visited Mona last year. When Lau was denied access to the Ladies Lounge on the basis of his male identity, he sued MONA for discrimination. In September the supreme court quashed the tribunal’s ruling, and MONA this week announced that the Ladies Lounge will reopen for a lap of honor from Thursday until mid-January, 2025.

Just over a month from now, Trump will have the power to levy tariffs on other nations at the flick of a pen. When the Fed responded to high levels of unemployment in the 1970s by cutting rates to relieve pressure businesses faced, it later had to contend with higher inflation. The path to stagflationThe tariffs Trump has floated aren’t inherently inflationary, Michael Feroli, chief US economist at JPMorgan, told CNN. But higher tariffs can quickly fuel cascades of price increases if Americans expect higher inflation because of them and demand higher wages, which, in turn, could result in businesses continuing to raise prices.

That is made possible through a first-of-a-kind integration with Eli Lilly's direct-to-consumer website, LillyDirect, which already offers home delivery of Zepbound vials through a third-party digital pharmacy, Gifthealth. Gifthealth will dispense the vials to patients who receive Zepbound prescriptions through a provider affiliated with Ro. The vials have the "most affordable" price of a branded GLP-1 drug before insurance, according to Ro. They can access doctors, labs and a pharmacy that will give them access to Zepbound vials all in one place."
