An injection pen of Zepbound, Eli Lilly’s weight loss drug, is displayed in New York City on Dec. 11, 2023. The Food and Drug Administration on Thursday said the active ingredient in Eli Lilly's weight loss drug Zepbound is no longer in shortage, a decision that will eventually bar compounding pharmacies from making cheaper, unbranded versions of the injection. Zepbound and other weight loss drugs are not covered by many insurance plans, but Eli Lilly's diabetes counterpart Mounjaro is. It's the latest in a high-stakes dispute between compounding pharmacies and the FDA over a shortage of tirzepatide, the active ingredient in both Zepbound and Mounjaro. When a brand-name medication is in shortage, compounding pharmacies can prepare copies of the drug if they meet certain requirements under federal law.

Funding expires at the end of Friday, when the House and Senate are hoping to adjourn for the Christmas, Hanukkah and New Year holidays. And the Democratic-run Senate would need unanimous agreement to skip procedural hurdles and pass it in time. The legislation would throw a messy new shutdown deadline into President-elect Donald Trump’s first 100 days in office. Government funding is subject to the Senate’s 60-vote threshold, so they would still need Democratic support to pass it. For that reason, some Republicans preferred to finish the job earlier and take the current fiscal year’s funding task off Trump’s plate.

CNN —A women-only art installation accused of being “discriminatory” by a disgruntled man who was denied entry is reopening Thursday having successfully fought for its legal right to exist. The Ladies Lounge, at the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) in Tasmania, Australia, was created five years ago by artist Kirsha Kaechele, the wife of the museum’s founder and owner David Walsh. The installation, complete with lavish decor and a butler serving champagne, carried on uninterrupted until Jason Lau visited Mona last year. When Lau was denied access to the Ladies Lounge on the basis of his male identity, he sued MONA for discrimination. In September the supreme court quashed the tribunal’s ruling, and MONA this week announced that the Ladies Lounge will reopen for a lap of honor from Thursday until mid-January, 2025.

Now, Americans may have to actually brace for stagflation — something the nation’s economy hasn’t experienced in over half a century. Just over a month from now, Trump will have the power to levy tariffs on other nations at the flick of a pen. When the Fed responded to high levels of unemployment in the 1970s by cutting rates to relieve pressure businesses faced, it later had to contend with higher inflation. The path to stagflationThe tariffs Trump has floated aren’t inherently inflationary, Michael Feroli, chief US economist at JPMorgan, told CNN. But higher tariffs can quickly fuel cascades of price increases if Americans expect higher inflation because of them and demand higher wages, which, in turn, could result in businesses continuing to raise prices.

Two men were arrested in Boston over the weekend for flying a drone “dangerously close” to Logan International Airport as investigations into objects in the sky continue across the East Coast. Authorities said that a Boston police officer specializing in crime surveillance detected an unmanned aircraft system operating near the airport and identified the drone’s location. The arrests come as drone sightings have been reported across the country, in some instances prompting airport closings, leading lawmakers and the FAA to call for more oversight. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., on Sunday requested that the Department of Homeland Security send a drone detection system to New York and New Jersey, after a number of drone sightings in the Northeast. “There are thousands of drones flown every day in the United States, recreational drones, commercial drones.

“Changing the law will give parents the right to sell their young daughters,” Batta said in a telephone interview last month. UNICEF reported in April 2023 that 28% of girls are married before the legal age of 18, although under Iraqi law, girls as young as 15 can be married with the consent of a judge and their parents. As well as setting the age of marriage, it addressed child custody, inheritances and alimony payments focused on the welfare of both children and women. As a result, some lawmakers and rights groups are concerned that this would pave the way for legalizing and expanding child marriage in the country. “Changing the law will lead many underage girls to face circumstances similar to what I went through,” she said.

Milei’s sister and political adviser Karina Milei was also granted Italian citizenship during the visit to Rome, during which the pair attended the political convention of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s far-right Brothers of Italy party. The new rules stipulate that an Italian citizen who was born in Italy but gave up their Italian citizenship after leaving the country may not automatically transfer citizenship to their descendants. It is not clear if Milei’s grandparents retained their Italian citizenship or if they gave it up to become Argentine nationals. WASHINGTON — The House of Representatives on Thursday passed a bipartisan bill backed by the federal judiciary that would create dozens of new judgeships despite President Joe Biden's pledge to veto it. House Democratic Whip Katherine Clark, of Massachusetts, sent a note before the vote Thursday urging colleagues to vote against the bill. The bill passed the House on a 236-173 vote Thursday, with 29 Democrats voting in favor and two Republicans voting against. “At that time, Democrats supported the bill — they thought Kamala Harris would win the presidency,” House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., said in a statement. Biden threatened to veto the legislation on Tuesday, with the White House saying it was "unnecessary to the efficient and effective administration of justice."

Biden administration officials said Wednesday they have no current plans to authorize a stockpiled bird flu vaccine, despite an escalating outbreak among livestock in the U.S. and at least 58 human infections across seven states. Almost all bird flu cases in the U.S. have been in farmworkers who have had contact with infected animals — either dairy cows or poultry — aside from a patient in Missouri and a child in California. The federal government has two bird flu vaccine candidates available in limited quantities in the nation’s Strategic National Stockpile, though they need to be authorized by the Food and Drug Administration before they can be used. Still, some public health experts believe the time for vaccination is now, particularly for farmworkers. In 1976, at the first signs of an H1N1 swine flu outbreak in the U.S., public health officials quickly initiated a nationwide vaccine campaign.

On a recent episode of his popular podcast "A Bit of Optimism," host Simon Sinek asks restaurateur Will Guidara the question "Should you do business with your friends or should you not mix the two?" Sinek and Guidara agree that the answer is highly dependent on who the people are. However, Sinek could name one red flag that might signal you and a friend should not go into business together. "If you have no money you shouldn't choose a business partner who is a multi-millionaire," Sinek said. And once you start to resent a friend, it's hard to salvage even the personal part of that relationship.

Direct-to-consumer health-care startup Ro on Wednesday said its platform will now offer more affordable single-dose vials of the weight loss drug Zepbound through a new partnership with Eli Lilly , which aims to streamline access to the popular treatment. That is made possible through a first-of-a-kind integration with Eli Lilly's direct-to-consumer website, LillyDirect, which already offers home delivery of Zepbound vials through a third-party digital pharmacy, Gifthealth. Gifthealth will dispense the vials to patients who receive Zepbound prescriptions through a provider affiliated with Ro. The vials have the "most affordable" price of a branded GLP-1 drug before insurance, according to Ro. They can access doctors, labs and a pharmacy that will give them access to Zepbound vials all in one place."
