American Outdoor Brands and Vista Outdoor have reported weaker sales in their shooting categories of late. But the past year has seen gun sales fall precipitously as demand wanes. Sturm, Ruger & Company did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment. Other major gun companies including American Outdoor Brands and Vista Outdoor, which purchased Remington Ammunition out of bankruptcy in late 2020, are seeing similar declines in gun sales. Vista Outdoor reported a sales decline of 4% to $432 million for its sporting products, which includes its Remington acquisition.

Indiana police, whose work was being broadcast live on cable TV, arrested a father after neighbors reported his toddler son was roaming apartment hallway with a loaded gun, officials said. Officers spoke to a neighbor who called police and then to the boy's father, 45-year-old Shane Osborne, who said there was no gun in his apartment, "Live" footage showed. The officers immediately went back to Osborne's apartment and eventually found a 9mm Smith & Wesson inside a closed roll top desk, according to the Reelz show. Curtis Wilson, a "Live" analyst, said he doubts the child randomly put the gun in that desk. Osborne was booked on suspicion of felony neglect of a dependent, police records showed, though more charges might be in the works.

A father spent most of the weekend in jail after his young boy was seen on security video waving a loaded handgun around an Indiana apartment complex, authorities said Monday. At first, the boy moves rapidly to a staircase and points the gun down its slope for a beat, the video shows. Officers responding to the report of the boy with a gun were being recorded for immediate broadcast on "On Patrol: Live" on cable network Reelz. The neighbor said she looked through her front door peephole and saw the boy standing above with the gun held behind his back. A woman with the same last name as the suspect lives in a separate apartment, according to the report.

A small group of Los Angeles city leaders faced shame and castigation after an audio recording of racist remarks at a private meeting surfaced Sunday. The most egregious remarks were uttered by City Council President Nury Martinez, who seemed to verify the 2021 recording by apologizing to constituents. Los Angeles City Councilmember Kevin de León and City Council President Nury Martinez confer at council meeting on Oct. 4. Martinez and de León and other Latino council members apologized Sunday after The Los Angeles Times reported that they had been taped making racist comments in a private meeting.
