Amazon founder Jeff Bezos' fund to support homeless families announced $117 million in new grants on Tuesday to organizations across the U.S. and Puerto Rico, which is a part of a $2 billion commitment Bezos made in 2018 to support homeless families and to run free preschools. That brings the amount granted by the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund to benefit homeless families to almost $640 million. The Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte received a second grant this year after first being awarded $5 million by the fund in 2018. The Bezos Day 1 Families Fund did not give a timeframe for when the pledged $2 billion would be distributed or what portion would go to homeless families. Last year, Bezos gave away $122.2 million and has pledged around $12.8 billion in charitable donations, according to The Chronicle of Philanthropy.

Hundreds of Trump’s supporters have already faced a courtroom reckoning for their efforts to disrupt the certification of a democratic election. Trump faces charges of conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding and conspiracy against rights. Another reason why Trump’s trial is unlikely to be the kind of unifying event that eases a deep national wound is that most of his Republican Party is closing ranks around him. Given the political recriminations of a trial of a former president, it is reasonable to question whether such a prosecution is in the national interest. “Anyone who asks someone else to put themselves over the Constitution should never be president of the United States again,” Pence told reporters at the Indiana state fair.

Trump’s legal defense strategy is now entirely fused with his electoral one. His bid to regain the White House is no longer a mere political campaign but has now become about self-preservation. If Trump becomes the 2024 GOP nominee, the cloud of criminality could linger over the election until November next year. This potentially could cause havoc with Trump’s political schedule. The salience of Trump’s grievance campaign could become even more relevant in a general election.

Van Jones last week pressed a Tennessee Republican over his caucus voting to oust two Democratic lawmakers. "You have not done this to anybody except for two people in 200 years," Jones told state Rep. Jeremy Faison. The GOP-led state House took the action after then-Reps. Jones and Pearson led a gun reform protest from the floor. Faison said he felt as though House Republicans followed the proper protocol. State Rep. Gloria Johnson, a white lawmaker who also joined the gun reform protest, was not expelled by House Republicans and remarked last week that "it's pretty clear" why she was spared.
As tech talent remains in high demand, Damon Packwood, founder and executive director of Gameheads, a nonprofit teaching tech and video game design skills, is making sure that underserved youth has the tools necessary to get jobs in the field. But teaching tech skills through video games was still uncharted territory. "And teaching game design to low-income students of color has value because when you break apart a video game, you get these different medias. You get sound design, level design, architecture, coding, project management, art and animation, and motion picture. And there are some partnerships we have where they just give us books, laptops that they're not using anymore or video game consoles that they don't need anymore.

CNN —For four years, Lauren Sánchez has been quietly working behind the scenes to help Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos, strategically give away his vast wealth to a variety of causes. In their first sit-down interview as a couple at their sprawling Washington, D.C. home, Sánchez got candid about her philanthropic projects, space travel and what makes her relationship with Bezos work so seamlessly. “The work that we’re doing with the Bezos Courage and Civility Award I think needs to have a voice,” Sánchez said. Lauren Sanchez visits the US-Mexico border. Sánchez and Bezos said they wanted to bring a “little bit of light” to the people who use unity instead of conflict to resolve issues.
Bezos began giving out the award in 2021, and the prize includes $100 million to be distributed within 10 years. Bezos chose Parton this year because "she gives with her heart," he explained in a video posted to his Twitter account. Upon receiving the award, Parton thanked Bezos, saying "I will do my best to do good things with this money." Over the years, Parton has donated money to a number of charitable causes, including education, Covid research and animal preservation. Bezos is also entering the world of charitable giving and has pledged to donate the majority of his $122 billion net worth.
Billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos recently said he plans to give away the “majority” of his fortune. Bezos’ comments were made in an interview with CNN on Saturday, when he said he plans to use his wealth to fight climate change and to support societal “unifiers.” Bezos is worth about $124 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. “The hard part is figuring out how to do it in a levered way,” Bezos told CNN. The Giving Pledge was started by Bill Gates and Warren Buffett. Bezos committed $10 billion dollars to the Bezos Earth Fund in 2020, and by October 2021 had given away $947 million through the same.
Though Bezos’ vow was light on specifics, this marks the first time he has announced that he plans to give away most of his money. “I just feel honored to be able to be a part of what they’re doing for this world,” Bezos told CNN. Bezos has committed $10 billion over 10 years, or about 8% of his current net worth, to the Bezos Earth Fund, which Sánchez co-chairs. The economic downturnWhile Bezos and Sánchez plot out their plans for Bezos’ immense wealth, many people of more modest means are bracing for what economists fear may be an extended economic downturn. CNN recently reported that Bezos and Jay-Z are in talks on a potential joint bid on the Washington Commanders.

A Twitter employee shared a photo appearing to show his boss asleep on the office floor. Insider previously reported that some staff have been asked to work 24/7 since Elon Musk's takeover. "When you need something from your boss at elon twitter," Evan Jones, a product manager at Twitter Spaces, tweeted at around 2:00 a.m. New York time Wednesday. Este o răzbunare pentru mulți oameni care au suferit. Erau mai multe persoane care simțeau că nu pot respira", a continuat jurnalistul.
