Sexual assault survivors can be traumatized again when testifying years later, experts say. It is not unusual for people who are sexually assaulted to not come forward right away. “The victim has to be prepared to be the sole carrier of the information, and they also carry the burden of all the questions,” said Veronique Valliere, a psychologist who counsels sexual assault perpetrators and victims. “All the defense has to do really is to attack the decision-making of the victim,” she said. “If the offender happens to have resources, like money or status, immediately people go to thinking there is an alternative motive for fabrication,” Dr. Valliere said.
Pitcher plants supplement their diets with this one strange trick: eating flesh. Usually found growing in relatively poor soil, the plants sprout pitcher-shaped cups with pretty, frilly tops that obscure their true purpose: trapping hapless insects. Look inside the pitchers and you’ll find the half-digested bodies of the plants’ victims. While studies suggest that the plants’ colors and its nectar may attract prey, some scientists think pitchers’ scent may play a role as well. Humans tend to describe a pitcher plants’ scent as floral or herbal, said Laurence Gaume, a scientist the French National Centre for Scientific Research and an author of the new paper.
Breast cancer screenings reduce deaths from breast cancer and have considerably lower radiation levels than nuclear or atomic bombs, contrary to claims circulating in a video on social media. Dr Veronique Desaulniers, a bio-energetic chiropractor according to her LinkedIn profile, warns about the purported dangers of breast cancer screening in the clip posted on Instagram (here). “A decade of annual mammography would yield a total radiation dose 10 times that: 3.6 mSv,” he adds. A reduction in breast cancer deaths has been primarily attributed to mammography screening and early breast cancer detection (here). There is a radiation risk to the breasts of teenagers and women in their early 20s due to development, however, the risk drops rapidly as women age, according to Kopans.

PARIS, March 6 (Reuters) - LVMH (LVMH.PA), the world's largest luxury company, on Monday named Stephane Rinderknech as chairman and CEO of its beauty division, rounding out a series of broader management changes at the owner of Guerlain and Parfums Christian Dior. Rinderknech will take up global responsibility for the group's beauty business, while Guerlain head Veronique Courtois becomes president and CEO of Parfums Christian Dior. Make Up For Ever head Gabrielle Saint-Genis Rodriguez will be president and CEO of Guerlain. The changes come as luxury groups, which have been riding a strong wave of post-pandemic demand for designer labels, look to expand in their beauty activities. As part of that process, the group in January folded Tiffany into the watches and jewellery division, under the management of Stephane Bianchi.

AS A BABY EDITOR at fashion magazines in the 1990s, I was raised on a steady visual diet of the chicest black clothes. The office grown-ups at Harper’s Bazaar, W and Vogue would glide down the halls in form-fitting knits or svelte Helmut Lang pants that grazed their Manolo Blahnik BB pumps. Their sleek black Jil Sander suits and pencil skirts were constructed with care. My middle-aged years, it seemed, were going to be sartorially amazing: Choosing an artful black wardrobe would give me license to ignore lesser trends, signify maturity and fill my closet with essentials to rely on for decades—especially once I had the financial leeway to splurge on quality pieces. My commute is 30 feet to an office above our garage, my co-workers two terriers that shed shamelessly, leaving anything I wear covered in hair.
It would be the third defamation trial against Jones and his company Free Speech Systems, after two previous ones found Jones and FSS liable for a combined $1.5 billion in damages. A Texas court previously found them liable and the proposed trial would determine how much Jones owes the parents. He estimated a two-week trial would cost $600,000, reducing the amount of money available to pay Pozner, De La Rosa and other Sandy Hook parents with legal claims against him. Jones filed for personal bankruptcy in December after those two trials concluded, saying he could afford to pay less than 1% of the Sandy Hook defamation judgments. Sandy Hook parents raised concerns at Tuesday's hearing about Jones's recent recording of a podcast similar to his Alex Jones Show in a new studio space and under a brand not affiliated with FSS.
REUTERS/Gonzalo FuentesPARIS, Feb 13 (Reuters) - Airbnb (ABNB.O) is offering a night for two in the Palais Garnier opera house in Paris this summer, transforming a box in the theatre into a plush bedroom with sweeping views of the famous auditorium. Before the pandemic, Airbnb had created other unusual overnight stays in the French capital, one of its key markets. The Palais Garnier stay includes a music recital, dinner in an ornate rehearsal room backstage and a behind-the-scenes tour of the elaborate 19th century building, including its underground pool, the inspiration for the phantom's lair in the book and musical. The Palais Garnier stay will be listed on March 1 for 37 euros, also the number on the box, one of the theatre's most prestigious, which will be decked out with antique furniture specially for the night. I think it will be a bit unreal," said Veronique Dubrulle Leroux, the great-granddaughter of Phantom of the Opera author Leroux, who will host the visitors.
At first glance, you might miss the glass frog of the Costa Rican rainforest. Apart from a lime green smear across its back, its skin, muscle and other tissues are see-through. In a study published in the journal Science on Thursday, researchers report that when a glass frog falls asleep, almost all of its red blood cells retreat into its liver. In addition to revealing another remarkable adaptation in nature, the discovery could lead to clues for how to prevent deadly blood clots. Like people, glass frogs rely on hemoglobin, a colored protein in red blood cells that delivers oxygen around the body.
Jones is currently on trial in Waterbury, Connecticut, about 20 miles from Newtown, where the shooting took place. After a civil trial related to damages last month, a Texas jury ordered Jones to pay nearly $50 million in damages to Lewis and Heslin. Under Texas law, punitive damages can be up to twice the amount of economic compensatory damages but limited to $750,000 per plaintiff. Midway through that trial, Jones also filed for bankruptcy on behalf of his company, Free Speech Systems. Prior to his Connecticut trial, Jones’ lawyer tried to transfer the case to a federal bankruptcy court, which the court denied, allowing it to proceed in state court.
