CNN —At least 18 people, including United Nations staff, were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a UN school-turned-shelter in the Nuseirat camp in central Gaza on Wednesday, according to the Gaza Civil Defense and hospital officials. This is the fifth time that the school compound has been targeted since October 7, according to the UN agency and a Gaza Civil Defense spokesperson. Mahmoud Basal, a Gaza Civil Defense spokesman, said search operations were ongoing amid the rubble, with children and women among the injured. In a separate attack, at least nine members of the same family were killed in an Israeli strike in Jabalya, northern Gaza, it said. Footage of the aftermath, published by Gaza’s Civil Defense, showed the dismembered limbs of children.

An Israeli ground assault in the southern Gaza Strip on Friday forced tens of thousands of Palestinians to flee their homes and shelters, many for a third time or more, even as the United States and some Arab allies pressed both Israel and Hamas to restart peace talks. Nine staff members who worked for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees may have been involved in the Oct. 7 attack on Israel, according to a now-completed investigation conducted by The Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS). Since then, Israel declared war on Hamas and has killed over 40,000 people in Gaza, according to officials there. A total of 19 UNRWA staff members in Gaza were investigated by the OIOS for allegedly being involved in the attack, Lazzarini said. In one case, no evidence was found to support that the staff member in question was involved in the attack on Israel, according to Lazzarini. In nine cases, the evidence obtained was "insufficient to support the staff members' involvement," according to the news release.

CNN —The highly infectious polio virus has been found in sewage samples in Gaza, putting thousands of Palestinians at risk of contracting a disease that can cause paralysis. Gaza’s Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO) both said they had carried out tests and found samples of the virus in sewage water. “Poliovirus type 2 (VDPV2) had been identified at six locations in sewage samples collected on 23 June from Khan Younis and Deir al Balah,” WHO said Friday. CNN —Weapons experts have identified the remnants of two US-made munitions used in an Israeli missile strike Sunday on a school in central Gaza that according to local authorities killed at least 22 people. Hundreds were taking refuge at the former school in Nuseirat when it was struck by two missiles. CNN —Yet again, tens of thousands of people in Gaza are on the move, as the Israeli military issues fresh evacuation orders for a number of areas in Gaza City. It’s unclear how many people in Gaza City have heeded the latest evacuation order. The IDF confirmed to CNN that the evacuation order for parts of Gaza City was the third in the past 10 days. On July 2, the Israeli authorities clarified that the European Hospital in Khan Younis was not included in the evacuation order. Now, one of the main hospitals in Gaza City – the Al Ahli Baptist – has also closed its doors.
