The alternatives industry's annual fundraiser for Lincoln Center had David Geffen Hall stuffed with acrobats, dancers, jugglers, and magicians — to say nothing of the billionaires sipping cocktails and noshing on hors d'oeuvres such as a potato bite topped with caviar and crème fraîche. The event pulled in hundreds of traders, bankers, and lawyers despite a rainy, windy night on Manhattan's Upper West Side. It was a celebration of New York, according to one of the gala's chairs, Ilana Weinstein, a longtime hedge-fund recruiter born in the city. Steve Tananbaum, Ilana Weinstein, and Steve Cohen. Guests at Lincoln Center's Alternative Investment Industry Gala were entertained by dancers, musicians, jugglers, and acrobats.

Mikhail Svetlov/Getty ImagesMoscow is continuing its saber-rattling over the pro-Russian region of Transnistria in Moldova, and analysts are saying that while Russian authorities would find it hard to physically reach the breakaway region to annex it, there are still ways it can stir up pro-Russian unrest — and trouble for Moldova. All U.N. members consider the region to be part of Moldova, which has expressed a desire to reintegrate the region. Similarly to Ukraine, Moldova has a pro-Western government and wants to join the European Union. Problematically for Russia, Moldova and Transnistria are landlocked, sandwiched between Romania and Ukraine. CNBC has asked the Kremlin to comment on concerns that Moscow could look to destabilize Moldova and is awaiting a response.

More Americans are moving to Tuscany, a part of Italy known for medieval walled cities and wine. Some locals say it's keeping their economy alive, but others are starting to grumble. The influx of Americans, locals said, can be at once a booster of fortunes and an irritating imposition. "A lot of locals say that a place like Montepulciano cannot handle all those tourists because it's a small city," said Tudor, the jeweler. Americans, Ercolani said, "spend money and they appreciate the quality of the food and the wine that we have."

If artistic stature worked by osmosis, Christian Wolff could claim greatness based on that alone. “My father met Brahms,” he said, easing into conversation at a sturdy wooden table in the dining room of his Hanover, N.H., home. Wolff’s father was 6 or 7. Wolff’s grandfather, a violinist, conductor and professor, knew Brahms personally and professionally, he said. Wolff, who turns 90 on Friday, is associated with a different pantheon.

London CNN —An unexploded bomb from World War II has been taken out to sea and detonated after being found in a garden in the English city of Plymouth, authorities said Friday. The decision to detonate the bomb at sea was taken “after considering all options, including a controlled detonation on site,” according to a government statement. This war-time bomb has really brought out war-time spirit, people coming together to really support each other and whilst it has been really tough – we got through it,” said Tudor Evans, leader of Plymouth City Council. Evans thanked the bomb experts for their bravery and for “putting their lives on the line” while they were removing the bomb. The device was discovered on Tuesday in a garden, the Plymouth City Council said in a post on social media.

The most surprising thing about the disclosure that King Charles III has been diagnosed with cancer after less than two years on the throne is the fact that it’s been disclosed at all. Cancer is common; candor about the British royal family’s health, not so much. Over the centuries, like many royal families, it has gone to great lengths to hide the condition of the sovereign’s body. Healthy king, healthy country. The idea of a physically disabled heir was unthinkable, especially in a country where the aristocracy defined itself by its military prowess.

Chip stocks have been on a stock market tear for the last year, outpacing FAANG and other tech sector leaders in a rapid rise boosted by market enthusiasm for advanced AI chips. That success has now migrated over to another corporate performance measure. Semiconductor companies overtook FAANG stocks in Just Capital's annual ranking of public companies on issues of importance to the American public, with Intel , Advanced Micro Devices , and Micron Technology all finishing within the top 10. Semiconductor firms ranked highly on this year's JUST 100 list, Whittaker said, not only due to the number of jobs that they created relative to other industries, "but the adoption and expansion of policies that support workers and communities." AMD also disclosed its minimum yearly salary for the first time as well as providing more information around career development and benefits, leading to a higher worker score.

Billionaire investor Leon Cooperman forecasts that the stock market and its hefty valuations could see losses this year, while long-duration Treasury yields could test higher again. Forget the six times that the market was discounting, but I think the long end will go up," Cooperman said. Cooperman pointed out that the S & P 500 is now trading at 21 times forward earnings, which seems unsustainable. Not a buyer of bonds Another factor that could drive long rates higher is the burgeoning U.S. fiscal deficits, Cooperman added. "I think we're going to have inflation," Cooperman said.

Billionaire hedge fund manager Paul Tudor Jones believes the U.S. economy could run into major problems down the road due to its burgeoning fiscal deficits, which could eventually hurt the markets. The U.S. government ran up another half a trillion dollars in red ink in the first quarter of its fiscal year. "The only question is does that manifest itself in the markets, or when does that manifest itself in the markets," he said. Productivity may mask and it might be three or four years from now but clearly, clearly, we're on a unsustainable path." When Women Artists Choose Mothering Over Making Work

Fred Smith died young, of heart failure, in 1994 and, after a period of mourning, Patti Smith returned to New York and the music scene. If anything, it belonged to the language of platitudes and affirmations, far removed from punk’s mutinous liturgy. That there might be a connection between liberated sex and getting pregnant seems not to have occurred to McNeil. Nevertheless, for women artists, motherhood — venerated in theory, belittled in practice — is still seen, by others and often themselves, as an obstacle, if not the end. This year, as the mother of a 9-month-old, she revealed that she was pregnant again.

Phillips 66 is relying on financial and legal advice from Goldman Sachs (GS.N) and Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, the person familiar with the matter said. Olivier Douliery | Afp | Getty ImagesAuctions of government debt, normally routine events for the Treasury Department, have suddenly become very important to financial markets. That's why an announcement Wednesday on refunding, entailing the size of auctions as well as the duration mix of the debt that will be issued, is expected to draw even more market interest. Indeed, the two entities are both pivotal in determining how the U.S. is going to manage its mammoth debt load. That symbiotic relationship will be on full display this week when the Treasury Department makes its refunding announcement Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. ET, and the Fed follows with its decision on interest rates that same day at 2 p.m.

The auction could start a new chapter for the 113-year-old company, which has been owned by Venezuela for almost 40 years. Washington and Venezuela's political opposition wanted Citgo to anchor the country's economic future under a democratically elected government. The sale could become the biggest court auction ever held. Motiva, Valero and Citgo's ultimate parent, Venezuela's state oil company PDVSA, did not reply to requests for comment.
