That’s the question put to a Massachusetts jury on Tuesday in closing arguments of her murder trial in a case that has riveted the Bay State. After closing arguments Tuesday morning, the jury began deliberations at about 1:30 p.m. and continued for about three hours. The top prosecutor in Minneapolis has dropped murder charges against a state trooper who fatally shot a motorist last year after a traffic stop, her office said on Sunday, a stunning turnaround in a case that ignited a political firestorm. The trooper, Ryan Londregan, had been charged with second-degree murder in the killing of Ricky Cobb II. But the prosecutor, Mary Moriarty, a longtime public defender who was elected Hennepin County attorney in 2022, said she concluded that the evidence was too weak to take to trial. OAK RIDGE NORTH, Texas (AP) — A man suspected of several robberies in southeastern Texas was fatally shot Monday night by officers with a joint task force after they saw him rob a liquor store, authorities said. The man, whose name was not immediately released, fled officers who had been monitoring him before seeing him rob the liquor store in Oak Ridge North at gunpoint, according to Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon. The officers then tried to arrest the man, but he fled on foot in the strip mall where the liquor store is located. “The officers, fearing for their safety, discharged their weapons, the suspect dies.”Ligon said a report on the shooting will be submitted to a grand jury to determine whether the officers acted appropriately. None of the officers were injured and all are on paid leave pending investigations into the shooting.

BALTIMORE (AP) — A Pennsylvania man has been charged with illegally flying a drone over Baltimore’s M&T Bank Stadium during the AFC championship game between the Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs last month, prompting security to temporarily suspend the game, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland announced Monday. Matthew Hebert, 44, of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, was charged with three felony counts related to operating an unregistered drone, serving as an airman without a certificate and violating national defense airspace on Jan. 28. In November, the administration said it would investigate a drone that briefly delayed a Ravens-Bengals game. Hebert, who was wearing a Ravens jersey was visiting the home of friends in Baltimore for the football game, said he didn’t know about restrictions around the stadium during the game, according to the affidavit. He faces a maximum of one year in federal prison for willfully violating United States national defense airspace.

SEATTLE (AP) — The Washington state Senate unanimously approved legislation Tuesday that would ban police from hog-tying suspects, a restraint technique that has long drawn concern due to the risk of suffocation. “He was loved and he was somebody’s family member," Democratic state Sen. Yasmin Trudeau, who sponsored the bill, said during the Senate vote. The U.S. Department of Justice has recommended against the practice since at least 1995 to avoid deaths in custody.
