But don’t expect a winter wonderland and don’t fall for the headlines and hype. The storm that will bring the snow to the Northeast already brought it to parts of the Midwest. This wet snow will fall overnight and could be heavy at times before it starts to taper off Friday afternoon. Any snow will have to fall heavily in order to accumulate more than an inch or so. Snow will fall across much of central PA over the next 24 to 36 hrs.

"When we price the goods the first time, we want you to say, 'wow, that's a great price, and how gorgeous is that product?'" Williams-Sonoma beat earnings and raised its outlook, sending shares to a new all-time high to finish up 27.54% by close. Alber critiqued the short-term promotion and discount pricing strategy sometimes used by other retailers, saying this approach isn't successful in the long term, as customers become "trained to wait for that promotion." She suggested customers trust the "pricing integrity" of Williams-Sonoma when it initially prices items. Williams-Sonoma is known as a high-end brand, but Alber claimed the company's prices are attainable.

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Wednesday said consumers right now aren't focused on brand names, but on companies that can provide the most value. The big box retailer cut its full-year guidance, and management said it saw weakness in discretionary products despite price cuts. Although the two retailers offer similar products, Cramer said Walmart is simply more affordable. He also named other discount outfits that are seeing success despite a tough consumer landscape, including Costco , TJX , Chili's-parent Brinker and Texas Roadhouse . On Wall Street, this focus on value extends beyond consumer companies and to sectors like tech, Cramer added.

A key opportunity lies in everyday scenarios that often go wrong, eroding your mental strength versus building it up. Don't underestimate the negative impact that landing in the "poorly" column here can have on your life and career. "Bad" events, emotions, information, and feedback are more influential than "good" ones, research shows. Events involving negative emotions, for example, are four times more likely to be remembered than those involving positive emotions. If the person offering feedback truly wants you to get better, and you do too, you can work toward that goal together.

Senate Democrats who pulled off victories even as President-elect Donald Trump won their states believe the Democratic Party can learn some lessons from their races as it grapples with losing control of Washington. Democrats still lost the Senate majority despite those victories, with Republicans flipping seats in Montana, Ohio and West Virginia. Democrats acknowledged Harris faced some headwinds in running a protracted campaign after taking over the ticket in late July. And while his party lost the White House, the House and the Senate, Schumer touted the Senate victories as more evidence that the party should be focused on the economy. Sometimes Democrats may be a little too solution-oriented, and people want to, first before you get to the solutions, hear empathy.

In the wake of President-elect Donald Trump's Nov. 5th victory, the stock and bond markets have had decidedly different reactions to the news. Initially, the stock market surged, while bonds sold off and drove interest rates higher. The bond market, along with other inflation indicators, have shown some concern about the notion that tax cuts pay for themselves. There have also been worries that the Trump tax cuts, if extended, would add considerably to annual deficits and the sum of the national debt. The stock market is viewed more favorably by many, as was Zeus in "Clash of the Titans."

"People have the same needs, but they have much less money in their wallet," he added. AdvertisementHowever, Ikea has benefited from investing in low prices because it has attracted more shoppers away from pricier rivals. AdvertisementBecause of this, he said that Ikea customers are largely engaging in needs-based shopping, picking up the necessities first, like a new bed or kitchen table, instead of non-essential items. "There is a large stimulus package coming from the government right now, which is helping, but people have been holding on to their money," Brodin said.

In the last Congress, Democrats repeatedly helped Republicans keep the government open and propped up Speaker Mike Johnson when he faced a challenge to his leadership post. He even tapped other senior House Democrats to echo his message to the Biden team, according to another person familiar with the efforts. Still, unlike some in his party, Jeffries is not in despair, according to multiple people familiar with his thinking. But whether they are measured by income or educational attainment, President-elect Donald Trump won working-class voters overall while he made strong gains among nonwhite working-class voters like Hispanics and Asian Americans. As recently as 2012, non-college-educated voters were splitting their votes evenly or even slightly in favor of Democrats. But that has left the party’s leaders, donors, operatives and other decision-makers more removed from the lives of low- and middle-income workers, some labor leaders say. But there is widespread frustration that Trump outflanked Democrats to position himself as a champion of working people, as well as dissatisfaction with Democrats not limited to white or male union members. But that policy was not enough to overcome larger societal forces that have led many working-class voters to doubt Democrats’ commitment to their well-being.
