Dense minefields and fortifications have slowed down its troops and have resorted to a "village by village, house by house" approach to retaking the south, the NYT reported. Western tanks have struggled to break through the minefields, and Ukraine's generals have switched to using Ukrainian infantry units to push back the well-dug-in Russian occupiers methodically. While the White House believes that Ukraine has made "notable progress" against Russia's second line of defense in the south over the past 72 hours, its soldiers are now set to encounter more minefields, according to one think tank.

The prosecutors in the other three Trump cases, both state and federal, have refrained from taking mug shots of Mr. Trump at all, given that he is one of the most recognizable people in the world and not considered a flight risk. Georgia laws, however, dictate that a mug shot be taken for a felony offense, and the Georgia sheriff in charge of booking has said that all defendants will be treated equally. And Mr. Trump is a man who has always understood the power and language of theater. That’s part of why the “would they or wouldn’t they” discussion about mug shots resurfaced each time an indictment was handed down. In its concrete reality, the Fulton County mug shot may seem more irrevocable than anything else that has happened in the Trump cases thus far — at least until the two sides enter a courtroom.

A Ukrainian maritime drone damaged a Russian warship on the Black Sea on Friday, the most serious strike on Moscow’s navy since last year, demonstrating both the escalating conflict at sea and the growing range and capability of Ukraine’s uncrewed vehicles. Too often the idea of the slippery slope is presented as a given, rather than as an assertion requiring evidence. But I do perceive that America has become infinitely more informed about slavery than it was 50 years ago. CNN —At least 11 “complete bodies” and dozens of body parts, including human heads, were recovered on Wednesday from a major prison in Ecuador, after days of deadly prison clashes. The remains were collected at the Litoral Penitentiary in Guayaquil, Ecuador, where violence first erupted on Saturday. Some of the victims appeared to have been beheaded, the National Forensic Service of Ecuador told CNN en Español Wednesday. National Theater of Korea/Handout via REUTERSSEOUL, June 30 (Reuters) - An android robot, EveR 6, took the conductor's podium in Seoul on Friday evening to lead a performance by South Korea's national orchestra, marking the first such attempt in the country. The two-armed robot, designed by the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, made its debut at the National Theater of Korea, leading musicians in the country's national orchestra. "Movements by a conductor are very detailed," Choi Soo-yeoul, who led Friday's performance alongside the robot, said. The humanoid robot guided three of five pieces showcased on Friday evening, including one jointly conducted with Choi.

The Juilliard dance department, under her leadership, seems like a happy place. Raised in Columbia, Md., she joined Dance Theater of Harlem at 17 and was an immediate standout: a tall, long-limbed, exceptionally graceful ballerina. Told she was too tall by American Ballet Theater and New York City Ballet, Mack reinvented herself again, becoming a star of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and greatly expanding her stylistic range into modern, contemporary and hip-hop. Asked back by the Ailey company, she squeezed out a few more years, then moved into teaching dance at Washington University and Webster University in St. Louis. A child of professors, she found her “happy place” at universities, she said, and realized that helping serious students on the cusp of their careers was what she wanted to do.
