Mario Tama | Getty ImagesSummer air travel is expected to soar in the United States. Last summer, a record-breaking summer for airports, there were air traffic jams and near collisions amid challenges in flight coordination. Based on air traffic patterns and airport density, New York City and Florida are subject to the highest risk of backups. "There is still a shortage of air traffic controllers, but it hasn't led to the worst outcomes that we were expecting when we were talking about the shortage of air traffic control workers even a year ago." With production delays, airlines pay billions to fly less fuel-efficient and more costly and aged jets.

I thought all-inclusive resorts didn't foster experiences unique to a destination. It was peaceful, quiet, and far from anything I envisioned when it came to staying at an all-inclusive resort. Between the picture-perfect accommodations and excursions, I was willing to challenge thoughts on all-inclusive resorts. We were told to meet at the outdoor dinner table at 7 p.m.Sure, Thatch Caye missed some elements of many all-inclusive resorts. And while I still plan to steer clear of many of the major all-inclusive resorts, I'll no longer shudder when I see those two little words.

The fees are partially used by the companies to run loyalty programs that award points to cardholders that can be redeemed for things like flights and hotels. The act proposes allowing retailers to choose a cheaper system that would reduce the fees. “This has been one of the biggest lobbying battles of all time, pitting two huge industries, retail versus banking,” said Brian Kelly, the founder of the Points Guy, a travel site that helps users maximize reward points and opposes the act. Does the legislation threaten your points? Not immediately, said Leigh Rowan of Savanti Travel, a personal travel management service.

Experts share the steps to take if your flight is canceled or delayed. When you travel via airplane, you run the risk of your flight being canceled or delayed and throwing a serious wrench in your plans. On Tuesday, United Airlines flights were grounded for more than an hour after the carrier experienced computer issues, the Federal Administration said. What to do if your flight is canceledThe first thing you should do when you find out your flight is canceled is contact the airline. That way, if your flight gets canceled, you can see if they are willing to book you on a competitor carrier.

Now on many international air carrier flights there is a more civilized way to compete with fellow passengers: a seat upgrade auction. How it works is fairly simple: a week or so before a flight, passengers receive an email letting them know about potentially available seat upgrades. But no other major U.S. carriers offer upgrade auction programs. "Most major U.S. airlines offer a few ways to upgrade your flight experience, whether you're looking for extra-legroom, premium economy or business-class seats. From the airline's perspective, there will be a highest bidder, and those who don't win the auction are no worse off than before.

Cruise lines are seemingly adopting the budget airline model: Charge a base fare and pile on extras. Newer cruise ships have "more opportunities to upsell" with restaurant and entertainment options. In fact, cruise lines have told their investors recently that passengers are embracing these add-on costs — and enhancing their bottom lines. "Cruise lines are creative to try to make you forget you actually bought some things nine months ago," Scholes said. When booking a flight, travelers agree to airlines' contracts, or conditions of carriage. They may have been able to sell an empty seat to another passenger, or perhaps sell a more expensive nonstop ticket to the skiplagging passenger, for example. Additionally, when travelers deviate from what's expected it messes with airlines' internal planning, flight scheduling and data science, for example, Slotnick said.
