Marjorie Taylor Greene sent $2,000 checks to 18 of her colleagues' campaigns in March. But spokespeople for two of those vulnerable Republicans — Rep. Derrick Van Orden of Wisconsin and Rep. Michelle Steel of California — now say that their campaigns didn't end up cashing the checks. Though the March 29 contributions appear in Greene's campaign filings with the Federal Election Commission, they never appeared in Van Orden or Steel's filings. Greene's campaign, which did not respond to Insider's request for comment, has not amended its filings with the Federal Election Commission to reflect that the checks were never cashed. Van Orden represents a swing district, and Democrats are eager to tie more vulnerable Republican candidates to the party's electorally toxic far right.

Florida students now need parental permission to use a nickname in school. The new rule is thanks to legislation approved by the state's governor who famously goes by his nickname. The rule also applies to transgender students who want to go by a preferred name instead of a legal name. The form also applies to transgender students who do not want to use their legal name, the school district said in the memo, FOX 35 reported. The same goes for parents and students in Seminole County, Florida, who got a similar email on Tuesday morning from their school board, People reported.

In an effort to comply with Florida's expanded-upon "Don't Say Gay" law, one school district is no longer asking students to read Shakespeare in its entirety. The law has also led to another school district forbidding teachers and students from using pronouns that don't correspond with their sex at birth. Hillsborough School District Spokeswoman Tanya Arja told the Tampa Bay Times the changes were made "in consideration of the law" — Shakespeare's writings, like many classics, are filled with sexually-charged innuendos and romance. The Times' report also noted the changes are occurring as the school district adapts to changes in Florida's "Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking" educational standards. It's also now Orange County School District policy that transgender teachers and contractors are barred from asking students to refer to them using honorifics or pronouns that do not correspond to their sex at birth.

Wait times for rides and attractions at both resorts have shortened, according to analysts who track theme park attendance. Disney CEO Bob Iger attributed Disney World’s recent decline in wait times to an overall slump in Central Florida tourism. Iger told CNBC he did not have “long-term concerns” about Disney’s theme parks. For Universal’s Florida parks, every month since March has seen lower average wait times, according to the site. The viral story about New York veterans getting kicked out of a New York hotel was a hoax, the Mid Hudson News reported. Seven homeless men say they were part of a group of 15 who were supposed to act as vets to keep up the scheme. On May 12, the New York Post first reported that 20 homeless veterans were forced out of the Crossroads Hotel in Newburgh to make room for migrants the federal government was sending to New York. A graphics expert who works at the Mid Hudson News noticed the receipt appeared to have been doctored. The job came with a promise of $200 in addition to food and alcohol, Mid Hudson News reported.
Buying a used Ioniq, which is produced in South Korea and Indonesia, wouldn't earn him $7,500 off through a federal tax credit. "I ran the numbers — what it would be without the leasing credit and with the leasing credit — and that kind of put me over the top and that was the main thing of why I went in that direction," he said. For a $50,000 EV and a 36-month lease, Chesbrough estimates the full $7,500 tax credit equates to $222 in monthly savings for a consumer. "It also allows them to level the playing field against competitors who get the full tax credit when purchasing." I wouldn't call it leveling the playing field," Watson said of leasing qualifying for the $7,500 tax credit.
Then-employee Jorge Diaz Vega, 26, allegedly told authorities in an interview that he had “been taking videos up the dresses/skirts of unknown females in the Disney World theme parks for approximately six years,” according to the affidavit. Diaz Vega, who worked at the lightsaber store, told authorities he had what he estimated to be over 500 such videos on his phone and showed “multiple examples of the videos” to detectives, according to the affidavit. “The videos were of multiple females who all appeared to not know they were being video recorded,” the affidavit states. She “was not aware at the time the incident took place, and she was not told of the identity of the male,” authorities say in the affidavit. CNN has attempted to reach Diaz Vega directly for comment.
