US Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris speaks at a campaign rally at the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, North Carolina, on September 12, 2024. Vice President Kamala Harris raised $47 million in the first 24 hours following her Tuesday night debate against former President Donald Trump, a Harris campaign spokesman told CNBC. The newest Harris fundraising numbers mark the latest blow for the Trump campaign, which has been lagging behind Harris in the fundraising game. The Harris political operation recently announced that it raised $361 million in August, more than double the $130 million Trump's team raised last month. The news of Harris' $47 million day was first reported by The New York Times.

Though the debate opened with a discussion about the economy, the conversation quickly devolved into platitudes, boasts, and personal jabs. Industry leaders told Business Insider that they hoped to hear the candidates discuss crypto guidelines, regulation, and key appointments on Tuesday night, but little was said about any of those topics. "What we really need is either a debate or a whole section of a debate devoted to economic issues," Tedeschi said. Tedeschi told Business Insider that we need clarity about Trump's proposed tariffs, which are the "most consequential and radical thing that he's proposed." Chris Larsen, the billionaire co-founder of blockchain payments company Ripple, told Business Insider that Harris was "spectacular."

New York CNN —The battle over “founder mode” versus “manager mode” is one of those manufactured dramas that only a small segment of the world cares about — like going to Davos or Cannes or the Vanity Fair Oscar Party. The idea is that a founder knows their company the way a parent knows their child. Graham doesn’t really define founder mode because every founder and every firm is different. I’ll offer another: Ray Dalio, the founder of Bridgewater, one of the world’s biggest hedge funds. The most successful “founder mode” guys (they’re almost all male, as far as I can tell) seemed to always have a trusted manager by their side.

In a decision on August 27, the US Third Circuit Court of Appeals found that, in 2021, TikTok — via its "For You Page" algorithm — recommended a video promoting a "blackout challenge" to 10-year-old Nylah Anderson. The company had argued in court that it was immune from prosecution due to Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. AdvertisementBut the Third Circuit ruling could change that.
