The Dallas Cowboys were walloped at home Sunday, getting blown out to the tune of 47-9 by the Detroit Lions — the Cowboys’ fourth straight loss at home dating to last postseason. The Lions had a 27-6 lead after two quarters — continuing a disturbing trend for the Cowboys. Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott struggled, throwing for only 178 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions before he was pulled in the fourth quarter. The loss dropped the Cowboys to third place in the NFC East, behind the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Commanders. After the game, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was asked if he was contemplating a coaching change.

CNN —Detroit Lions star pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson was carted off the field with a broken tibia in the team’s 47-9 blowout victory against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. Early in the third quarter, Hutchinson injured himself after sacking Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. As he went to wrap up the QB, his leg collided with a teammate’s leg and he immediately fell to the ground. The Lions would rule him out for the rest of the game with a lower leg injury. Lions running back David Montgomery called Hutchinson’s injury an “unfortunate loss” for the team.

☆ DNA reveals surprises trapped in teeth of ‘Tsavo man-eater’ lions

Thomas Gnoske, a collections manager at the museum, first spotted thousands of hairs trapped within the lions’ teeth when he examined their skulls in the 1990s. “Our analysis showed that the historic Tsavo lions preyed on giraffe, human, oryx, waterbuck, wildebeest, and zebra, and we also identified hairs that originated from lions. The Tsavo lions were maneless, like this adult male lion. The combined efforts opened a treasure trove of data about the lions’ prey as well as about the predators themselves. “It suggests that the Tsavo lions may have either traveled farther than previously believed, or that wildebeest were present in the Tsavo region during that time,” de Flamingh said.

The only bright spot for Las Vegas is rookie tight end Brock Bowers, who is 76th in fantasy scoring (13.3). Brian Thomas Jr. is 35th in fantasy scoring (16.2 ppg), which is second-best among rookie wide receivers behind only Malik Nabers.

CNN —Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell is selling his home in the Motor City because of what he calls “safety concerns.”Campbell told Crain’s Detroit Business on Wednesday that he and his family “loved” the house but decided to move after fans found out where he lived. “There’s plenty of space, it’s on two acres, the home is beautiful,” Campbell told the outlet. Crain confirmed that Campbell was subject to pranks and harassment as a result. “Dan and Holly Campbell are Detroit treasures,” Crain told CNN. Week 2 of the NFL gave us some shocking upsets, an AFC thriller and some spectacular individual performances. That allowed the Chiefs to stay within a field goal — as did Cincinnati’s offensive struggles. After a Mahomes interception, Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was strip-sacked, and the fumble was recovered for a score on the next possession. Is the Saints’ offense really this good? The Saints scored touchdowns on five straight possessions to open the game, sandwiching long drives around explosive plays.

The Saints, one week after blowing out the lowly Carolina Panthers, did the same in Dallas to the high-flying Cowboys. The Ravens were in control for most of the game and then Davante Adams and Brock Bowers took over. The Ravens aren’t built to win when their defense softens — but that isn’t to say they won’t find ways to play the kind of defense the Ravens are known for. Meanwhile, the Saints’ defense denied the Cowboys on all three trips inside the red zone and recorded two takeaways. He made some strong in-structure throws, including a beauty to Noah Brown in the middle of the field late in the game to win the game.

CNN —Joe Schmidt, a Detroit Lions legend and Hall of Famer, has died at the age of 92, his family said in statement published by the Pro Football Hall of Fame. “When Joe Schmidt got to the ball carrier, that was the end of the play. He went on to play his entire 13-year NFL career in Detroit, helping the Lions win another NFL championship in 1957. Schmidt (56) lines up as Los Angeles Rams quarterback Zeke Bratkowski (12) prepares to snap the ball against the Detroit Lions at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on October 29, 1961. He was enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1973 and is a part of the NFL 100 All-Time Team.
