Read previewJeff Bezos this week unloaded 12 million shares of Amazon stock, netting him about $2 billion in a strategic move that may position him to once again claim the title of "world's richest man." Before this week's sale of Amazon stock, Bezos' net worth was only $5 billion behind Musk's $200 billion fortune, putting the title of #1 billionaire well within reach. This week's stock sale is not Bezos' first time offloading a large portion of his Amazon holdings, though it is the only major sale he's made since 2021. That year, Bezos sold $2.5 billion worth of shares as he prepared to step down as CEO. In 2019, Bezos offloaded roughly $2.8 billion worth of the company's stock.

Read previewTesla was hit with a lawsuit on Tuesday that alleges the electric-car maker mishandled hazardous waste at its factories in California. District attorneys representing 25 counties in California filed the lawsuit in San Joaquin County Court and are requesting the court force Tesla to properly take care of its hazardous waste going forward and pay a series of civil penalties. Tesla disposed of hazardous waste into trash sites "not permitted to accept hazardous waste" and "failed to properly mark, label, and store containers and tanks of hazardous waste" at its facilities, according to the lawsuit. The lawsuit also alleges Tesla didn't properly train its employees on how to deal with hazardous materials. In 2019, Tesla paid the Environmental Protection Agency a $31,000 settlement over alleged hazardous waste violations at the Fremont Factory.

New York CNN —A Delaware state court judge has thrown out the 2018 pay package that helped to make Tesla CEO Elon Musk one of the richest people in the world. He said Tesla investors will benefit from the decision by having the “dilution from this gargantuan pay package erased.”Attorneys for Musk and the Tesla board argued the pay package was approved by a shareholder vote. Excluding the votes owned by Musk and his brother, 73% of the shares voting in that election supported the pay package. The company’s market cap was valued at $54 billion at the time the pay package was approved. Robyn Denholm, the chair of Tesla’s board, testified that the pay package was all about keeping Musk focused on Tesla.

Musk appeared to give Tesla's board an ultimatum on Monday, saying he wants 25% voting control at Tesla or he'll stop growing AI development at the electric-car maker. One way of getting that would be via a dual-class stock structure. This isn't uncommon and could mean Musk wouldn't necessarily get more shares but that the ones he held would deliver more voting power. The company's dual-class stock structure provides Zuckerberg and select executive managers and directors with them. "Zuckerberg probably wouldn't have gone public without a dual-class structure," White said.

Lander's remarks make him the latest Tesla shareholder to call on the EV maker to rein in Musk. Musk endorsed an antisemitic post on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, on Nov. 15. It remains unclear whether Tesla's board will take any action. If Musk fails to do so, Tesla's board should consider actions such as docking his pay, suspending him or terminating him, Lander added. He wrote to Tesla board chair Robyn Denholm on Monday that failing to take action would show Tesla's code of business ethics to be "toothless."

With a "goodwill" repair, Tesla essentially foots the bill for labor, parts or accessories given to keep a customer happy. "Were Tesla to accurately categorize its 'goodwill' repairs as warranty repairs, it would likely need to restate earnings for every quarter since at least 2017," the tipsters wrote in their submission. In one example, the tipsters said screenshots showed other Tesla employees changed the status of material used in manufacturing from "scrap" to "work in progress." In another example, the complaint said screenshots showed Tesla employees had manually changed the status of "used" cars to "new" in a program that tracked vehicle deliveries data. In correspondence to the agency expanding on their complaint, the whistleblowers alleged this raises questions about the firm's independence and objectivity in judging Tesla's financials.
