Soren Lassen, head of offshore wind research at Wood Mackenzie, said the U.S. offshore wind industry is going through a needed readjustment, and that while the long-term outlook remains intact, progress has been pushed out. South Fork Wind offers tangible evidence that wind projects can work. The company developed the five-turbine Block Island Wind Farm, which is northwest of South Fork Wind, in 2016. The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management first awarded the leases for South Fork Wind in 2013, which where acquired by Deepwater Wind. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) kept its key interest rate unchanged on Wednesday, as widely expected, but tweaked its policy stance to "neutral," opening the door for rate cuts amid early signs of a growth slowdown in the economy. The Monetary Policy Committee, which consists of three RBI and three external members, kept the repo rate unchanged at 6.50% for a tenth straight policy meeting. The committee, however, changed its policy stance to "neutral" from "withdrawal of accommodation." The MPC last changed rates in February 2023, when the policy rate was raised to 6.50%. India's overall growth slowed to 6.7% in the June quarter.

Certain toilet paper, tissue and office paper brands are made with materials from eucalyptus trees, a non-native species to Portugal. CNN PortugalThe problem is eucalyptus trees are particularly flammable. The eucalyptus tree is native to Australia and provides food and shelter to koalas, among other wildlife. As the Portuguese paper and timber industries grew in the mid-1900s, so too did eucalyptus plantations, and the species now covers nearly 2 million acres. In California, the eucalyptus tree has been naturalized, meaning it now grows beyond the places it was planted.

Here’s a look at what could happen to inflation, jobs and the deficit if Trump or Harris win in November. That, among other things, would keep the top tax rate individuals pay at 37% compared to 39.6% before it went into effect. Meanwhile, the tax proposals Harris has put forth so far mostly involve imposing higher taxes, which would have a positive impact on the deficit. For instance, she’s endorsed raising the top individual income tax rate to 44.6% and the top long-term capital gains tax rate to 28% versus the current 20%. Taken together, the Penn Wharton Budget model estimates Harris’ proposals could increase the deficit by an additional $1.2 trillion by 2034.

Nebraska voters will weigh two different abortion-related constitutional amendments this fall, with the secretary of state's office certifying both measures Friday to appear on the ballot. “Barring any legal challenges, this November general election ballot will host two ballot measures that appear in direct conflict with each other, which could be the first time this has happened in Nebraska’s history,” Secretary of State Bob Evnen said in a statement. Nebraska law currently bans abortion after 12 weeks of pregnancy, with exceptions for rape, incest and saving the mother’s life. If both amendments pass, the one with the most votes prevails. Democrats are hoping the ballot measures will help boost turnout in a critical presidential election cycle.

“The IOC will reallocate the bronze medal to Ana Bǎrbosu (Romania),” the statement said. But her coach, Cecile Landi, submitted an inquiry to challenge the difficulty score Chiles had received. The court agreed, invalidating Chiles’ score, and the International Gymnastics Federation, known as FIG, then announced that it had officially changed the ranking of the competition, putting Chiles back in fifth place. “The inquiry into the Difficulty Value of Jordan Chiles’ floor exercise routine was filed in good faith and, we believed, in accordance with FIG rules to ensure accurate scoring,” the statement said. On Sunday, the American gymnast Jordan Chiles became the latest athlete to lose one. At the Paris Olympics, Ms. Chiles had won bronze in the individual floor exercise. That appeal, however, came four seconds too late, a court ruled, reinstating Ms. Chiles’s original score. The bronze will now go to Ana Barbosu of Romania, according to the International Olympic Committee. The U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee intends to appeal the ruling.

U.S. gymnast Jordan Chiles might lose her bronze medal. She had placed fifth before the inquiry, behind both Romanians, but received a tenth back on her final score, boosting her onto the podium. In one, the team asked that the 0.1 point penalty for stepping out of bounds on Maneca-Voinea's final score be returned because it was "given without basis." It also requested that Chiles, Maneca-Voinea and Bărbosu all be placed in third and earn bronze medals. If she had not received the deduction, Maneca-Voinea would have scored higher than Bărbosu and Chiles, even after Chiles' score was increased on appeal.

How the Olympics Warp Time

Let’s say you learned to tell time on a simple, round analog clock, with 12 big numbers and two hands. The Olympic Games present a mind-bending puzzle: What if, between each of those big numbers, there were scores of smaller numbers? And what if, between the smaller numbers, there were hundreds more numbers? The American sprinter Noah Lyles won the men’s 100-meter dash by 0.005 of a second. Kenny Bednarek of the United States won a silver medal after running the 200 in 19.62 seconds; Letsile Tebogo of Botswana won gold by finishing 0.16 of a second faster.
