CNN —German leaders raised the possibility that a fiery cargo plane crash in Lithuania on Monday was the result of sabotage or hybrid warfare. The cargo plane was flying from Leipzig, Germany, and was due to land at Vilnius Airport when it crashed a few kilometers from the runway. The plane skidded on the ground for several hundred meters before hitting a residential home, authorities in Lithuania said. “Our initial information does not indicate that we need to be investigating more serious actions,” Prosecutor Arturas Urbelis said in a statement, according to Reuters. DHL said the plane “made a forced landing about one kilometer from VNO Airport.” It confirmed four people were onboard.

Chipmaker Intel and the CHIPS Act Office are close to finalizing a deal which would award the company a roughly $8 billion grant, according to a person familiar with the matter, as the Biden administration moves to dole out funds before President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration. The U.S. awarded Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. a $6.6 billion grant earlier this month, raising investor expectations that cash funding for Intel would come soon. Intel has benefited from CHIPS Act tax breaks but has not yet received cash awards, something which Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger has expressed dissatisfaction with. "We're frustrated that hasn't moved faster," Gelsinger told CNBC in October, referring to the CHIPS Act grants. U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson had previously said he might look to repeal the bipartisan CHIPS Act, but he then walked back those comments.

Investors should be wary of the impacts several companies may bear from the cost-cutting goals of President-elect Donald Trump's Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, according to TD Cowen. "The announcement of DOGE has led to concerns about future revenue and profitability of USG [United States government] contractors," analyst Roman Schweizer said in a Friday note to clients. "It is too early to estimate potential negative impacts to USG contractors given the limited results of prior USG reforms, but cuts are possible and there will be uncertainty for several months." In an effort to find companies that have the most at stake under potential DOGE actions, TD Cowen identified the publicly traded government contractors with the highest amount of dollars obligated in fiscal year 2023, both overall and by individual federal department. Pharmaceutical giants such as Merck , Humana and Pfizer could also be impacted by potential DOGE cuts, as the firm found they receive large sums of money primarily through contracts with the Department of Health & Human Services.
