The Democratic Party, post-2016, was arguably in a deeper funk and more contentious state of internecine battle. MoveOn, another older liberal activist group, and the Working Families Party have reported similarly estimable engagement stats. “Those kinds of fights, I think, will energize the Democratic Party and become the defining issues in the 2026 elections and beyond,” said Ben Wikler, the chair of the Wisconsin Democratic Party and a candidate to lead the national party. “We have been, for years, a party against Trump instead of a party for something,” Andrabi said. There should be less focus, these leaders said, on puncturing what has often been described by liberals as a personality campaign designed to sour Trump voters on Trump.

CNN —A series of drone sightings over military bases across the country has renewed concerns that the US doesn’t have clear government-wide policy for how to deal with unauthorized incursions that could potentially pose a national security threat. Rob Spalding, who previously served as the chief China strategist for the Joint Chiefs of Staff and senior director for strategic planning on the National Security Council. This photo provided by Brian Glenn shows what appears to be multiple drones flying over Bernardsville, New Jersey, on Thursday, December 5, 2024. The former senior military official said that over the years, a number of senior military commanders have testified before Congress about gaps in domain awareness in the US and limitations on the US’ ability to detect drones and more broadly defend the homeland. And while lawmakers generally seem receptive, and to understand the problem, that understanding hasn’t been reflected in policy, the official said.

Honda and Nissan are considering producing vehicles in one another's factories as part of their plan to deepen ties and potentially merge, Japan's Kyodo news agency said on Saturday. Honda will consider supplying hybrid vehicles to Nissan as part of the plan, the report said, without citing the source of the information. A merger of Honda, Japan's second-largest car company, and Nissan, its third-largest, would create the world's third-largest auto group by vehicle sales, behind Toyota and Volkswagen, making 7.4 million vehicles a year. As announced, Honda, "Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors are in the process of bringing together our strengths and exploring potential forms of cooperation, but nothing has been decided yet," a Honda spokesperson said, when asked about the report. Kyodo said Honda could use Nissan's car factory in Britain, as it now only has factories for engines and motorcycles in Europe.

It's the season of giving, and billionaire philanthropist MacKenzie Scott just announced she's handed out more than $2 billion to 199 different organizations this year. That brings the total amount donated by Scott since 2019 to $19.2 billion, based on her past public announcements of her charitable giving. Like other countries, India has been targeted by Trump, who called New Delhi a “very big abuser” of the bilateral trading relationship during a campaign event in September. “Having Trump breathing down BRICS’ neck saying, ‘don’t go down that road,’ gives India more space to maneuver,” Pant added. Transactional waysYet that is not likely to totally absolve India from the occasional turbulence associated with a Trump administration. A universal tariff of 10% threated by Trump would impact India, Kugelman said, in part because India enjoys a trade surplus with the US. London CNN —Poland is selling up to 1,000 metric tons (1,102 tons) of its frozen butter reserves to bring down surging prices ahead of presidential elections in May. The government’s strategic reserves agency announced the butter auction Tuesday, citing significant increases in butter prices worldwide that it blamed on a shortage of milk. And while retail butter prices are up around 20% compared with last year, wholesale prices have climbed 50%, signaling even higher prices for consumers ahead, he added. According to the European Commission, butter prices in the EU have jumped some 44% this year as dairy prices have surged around the world. Also in November, its broader Food Price Index, which tracks international prices of a range of food, reached its highest level since April 2023.

New York CNN —KFC’s “finger lickin’ good” slogan usually refers to chicken, but it’s taking on different meaning at its newest location. The restaurant, which ditches the chain’s familiar red for pink, is centered around 11 new dips and chicken tenders — both favorites of Gen-Z eaters who crave adventurous flavors and boneless chicken. The launch of Saucy comes amid challenging times for the Yum Brands-owned chain, which has posted several consecutive quarters of declines for its US restaurants. A survey of restaurants menus from Technomic Ignite, a food consulting firm, shows that the availability of chicken tenders has grown more than 5% over the past five years. Two men have been charged in Boston federal court in connection with a fatal drone strike in Jordan that killed three U.S. service members and injured dozens earlier this year. Abedini was further charged with providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization — the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The men allegedly conspired to evade U.S. sanctions and supply the Iranian government with a type of drone navigation technology used in the Jan. 28 drone attack at the Tower 22 base in Jordan, a U.S. military outpost, prosecutors said. The drone, launched by IRGC-backed militants, made impact near a shelter where some troops were sleeping and killed three U.S. service members. The two men allegedly conspired to procure goods and technology from Sadeghi’s place of work and exported them and supplied them to Iran to Abedini’s Iranian company SDRA.
