Florida State University has been working with JPMorgan as it explores options to bring in funding from institutional investors, according to a person familiar with the matter. The discussions have been ongoing in recent months, and Sixth Street Partners has expressed interest as an investor, the person said. The discussions with potential equity investors are not tied to FSU's potential push to leave the conference, according to the person familiar with the matter. Sportico earlier reported that FSU was working with JPMorgan and that Sixth Street was part of the discussions. REUTERS/Jonathan Ernst/File PhotoApril 15 (Reuters) - U.S. buyout firm Carlyle Group Inc (CG.O) is in talks about a "major" investment in Manchester United soccer club as the auction of the Premier League team enters its final stages, Sky News reported on Saturday. Carlyle and Manchester United did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. Sports industry news site Sportico reported earlier this month that Manchester United would accept a third round of bids from prospective buyers at the end of April. The Glazers bought Manchester United in 2005 for 790 million pounds in a highly leveraged deal that has been criticised for loading debt on to the club.
April 13 (Reuters) - Finnish businessman Thomas Zilliacus has dropped out of the bidding for Manchester United, saying delays in the sale process will make it difficult for a new owner to build a winning team. United's American owners, the Glazer family, launched a formal sale process late last year, with several bids received in February and March. read more"I have declined participation in a third bidding round for United," Zilliacus said on social media. [1/4] Feb 2, 2022; Landover, MD, USA; Washington Commanders co-owner Dan Snyder speaks as co-owner Tanya Snyder (L) listens during a press conference revealing the Commanders as the new name for the formerly named Washington Football Team at FedEx Field. Mandatory Credit: Geoff Burke-USA TODAY SportsApril 13 (Reuters) - Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder has reached an agreement in principle to sell the National Football League (NFL) team to a group led by the co-owner of the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers, Josh Harris, according to a Sportico report on Thursday. The Commanders, NFL and a spokesman at Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment (HBSE), where Harris serves as managing general partner, all declined to comment. In 2021 the NFL fined the Commanders $10 million after an independent counsel review found the workplace demonstrated "a general lack of respect" toward women. The committee's final report said sexual harassment, bullying, and other toxic conduct pervaded the team's workplace, perpetuated by a culture of fear instilled by Snyder.
The Washington Commanders are nearing a sale to an ownership group led by Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils Owner Josh Harris at just under $6 billion, a person familiar with the deal told CNBC. Harris' ownership group includes Washington D.C.-based billionaire Mitchell Rales and NBA legend Magic Johnson. Amazon founder and Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos was exploring the sale process, but decided not to make an offer, according to ESPN. For Commanders fans and former employees, progress in the sale process is welcome news. Commanders owner Dan Snyder announced in November of 2022, that he was putting the Commanders up for sale.

If finalized, the sale would mark the end of the controversial ownership of the Washington franchise by embattled billionaire Daniel Snyder. News of the near deal was first reported by Sportico, which reported the team sold for $6 billion, a record for a North American sports franchise. Snyder purchased the team, then named the Washington Redskins for a reported $750 million in 1999. It adopted the Commanders name last year, after playing two seasons with the name Washington Football Team. “Today marks the end of a long, difficult chapter for all employees and fans of the Washington football organization,” read a statement from Lisa Banks and Debra Katz, two attorneys representing more than 40 former Washington Commanders employees.

Manchester United and Raine Group, the investment bank running the bidding process, did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. United's American owners, the Glazer family, launched a formal sale process late last year, with several bids received in February and March.
