CNN —Sha’Carri Richardson became the second-fastest women’s 200-meter runner in the world this year as she cruised to victory in her heat at the US Olympic Trials. Long ran the fifth-fastest time in Thursday’s heats, behind Gabby Thomas – the 200m bronze medalist at the Tokyo Olympics – NCAA record holder Abby Steiner, and 2019 world championship silver medalist Brittany Brown. “Any time I touch the track, there’s an opportunity for me to work on being my best self,” Richardson told NBC after her heat. The 24-year-old ran the fastest 100m time in the world this year with her victory at the trials on Saturday, finishing in 10.71 seconds. In the men’s event, Tokyo silver medalist Rai Benjamin comfortably won his heat, while Caleb Dean set the fastest time of the day with 49.45.

CNN —Five-time Olympic gold medalist Elaine Thompson-Herah will miss Paris 2024 with an Achilles injury, she announced on social media. “I am hurt and devastated to be missing the Olympic this year but at the end of the day it’s sports and my health comes first. In doing so, she became the first woman to complete the Olympic sprint double since Florence Griffith-Joyner at Seoul 1988. Thompson-Herah – who turns 32 on Friday – finished last in the Prefontaine Classic last month with a time of 11.30, with one of her main rivals for Olympic gold, American Sha’Carri Richardson, finishing first. CNN —Snoop Dogg is used to recording tracks, not racing on them. But that didn’t stop the legendary rapper from putting on quite the show at the US Olympic athletics trials in Eugene, Oregon on Monday. Snoop was unsurprisingly smoked by his competition in the exhibition race at Hayward Field, finishing a distant third, but he still posted a very respectable time of 34.44 seconds. “Oh he’s jumping on top of the hurdle,” Snoop said in disbelief. “This wknd was fun … much respect to all tha world class athletes … see yall in Paris,” posted Snoop on his X account.

CNN —Shericka Jackson produced a stunning performance at the Jamaican championships on Saturday as she ran a world-leading 10.65 seconds in the 100 meters. The blazing time put Jackson joint-fifth on the all-time list, 0.16 seconds off Florence Griffith-Joyner’s 35-year-old world record. It also saw her surpass American Sha’Carri Richardson, who won the US 100-meter title on Friday, for the fastest women’s 100-meter time this year. The 23-year-old finished the opening heat with a world-leading time of 10.71 seconds as she boosted her chances of qualifying for next month’s World Championships in Budapest. In a video Richardson says was taken after the interaction with the flight attendant, she can be seen taking a video of herself. Richardson then pans the phone camera over to a flight attendant near her, who is then seen backing away. “You’re harassing me at this point so I think you should stop, I think you should stop," Richardson responds. Richardson asks to speak to the captain and also if the flight attendant she argued with will be removed from the plane as well.
