In the exit polls, about 1 in 8 voters who described Trump as “too extreme” still voted for him. Likewise, in the VoteCast survey, Trump won 1 in 6 voters who expressed concern that he would steer the country in an authoritarian direction. Trump won almost exactly the same share of voters who said in the VoteCast survey that he lacks the moral character to serve as president. Even among the voter groups most directly affected by these policies, Trump won substantial support from people who disagreed with him. In either case, the result was that Trump won far too many voters who supported legal abortion for Harris to prevail.

Residents of New Jersey have reported seeing drones in the sky nearly every night since Nov. 18, a senior official briefed on the drones told NBC News last week. The Pentagon, which has said the drones aren't U.S. military-operated, has denied the drones were linked to Iran. In a joint statement last week, the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security said there is "no evidence at this time that the reported drone sightings pose a national security or public safety threat or have a foreign nexus."

It is only the sixth time that a no confidence vote has been called in the country of 83 million people, Europe's most populous and the continent's largest economy. The confidence vote was needed because in post-World War II Germany, the constitution does not allow the Bundestag to dissolve itself. Scholz called the confidence vote after weeks of infighting with his coalition partners on a 2025 budget and Germany's future economic policy prior to Lindner's firing. However, it is unlikely the group would be able to govern because other parties have refused to align themselves to the far-right, despite Germany’s parliamentary system traditionally producing coalitions. Facing pressure from both the right and the left, French Prime Minister Michel Barnier resigned earlier this month after he lost a confidence vote which collapsed his government.

Former talk show host Carlos Watson was sentenced Monday to nearly 10 years in prison in a federal financial conspiracy case that cast his once-buzzy Ozy Media as an extreme of fake-it-'til-you-make-it startup culture. So extreme that another Ozy executive impersonated a YouTube executive to hype Ozy to investment bankers — while Watson coached him, prosecutors said. Watson even listened in and texted talking points while his co-founder posed as a YouTube executive to praise Ozy on a phone call with potential investors, prosecutors said. With weeks to go before President-elect Donald Trump takes office, the Biden administration is still taking steps to deliver sweeping student loan forgiveness to millions of Americans. The U.S. Department of Education has submitted its so-called "Plan B" for student loan cancellation to the Office of Management and Budget for review.
