In the top-of-the-ticket presidential race, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump entered the day virtually deadlocked in national polling and surveys of the pivotal battleground states. Senate Democrats and House Republicans were hoping to hang on to thin majorities amid fierce competition. Trump planned to gather family, friends and staff at Mar-a-Lago, his resort in West Palm Beach, Florida, to monitor returns. Along with the rest of the country, Trump and Harris must now await the judgment of voters in the seven swing states — Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Georgia, North Carolina, Arizona and Nevada — to find out who is right. GOP senators and top aides say the race could go either way. Scott, who is a McConnell critic, has been more willing to fall in line with Trump than Cornyn or Thune over the last several years. Both Thune and Cornyn are closely politically aligned with the longtime GOP leader. The analysis looked at ads, tracked by AdImpact, that aired Wednesday in competitive House and Senate races. As Wall Street financiers snapped up huge swaths of the nation’s rental housing market in recent years, the deals sailed through unchallenged. But large purchases of rental homes and apartment buildings by private equity firms like KKR are another cause, research shows. The Private Equity Stakeholder Project, a nonprofit that monitors the industry’s impact on individual Americans, has identified more than 5,100 apartment complexes owned by more than 30 private equity companies in America, totaling almost 1.4 million units. Jim Baker, executive director at the Private Equity Stakeholder Project, welcomes the scrutiny the senators are bringing to the KKR transaction. More than two-thirds of the apartment units in those states are owned by private equity, he said.

Democratic House and Senate candidates raised eye-popping sums from July through September, according to new reports filed with the Federal Election Commission. Democrats outraised Republicans in all 11 competitive Senate races and in all but one of the 26 “toss-up” House races. Three Senate Democratic candidates — Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown, Maryland’s Angela Alsobrooks and Michigan Rep. Elissa Slotkin — raised more than four times as much as their Republican opponents during that period. Senate Democratic candidates spent a combined $244 million to Republicans’ $91.5 million. Deep-pocketed Republicans donors also tried to close the gap by boosting a GOP super PAC working to seize the Senate majority. America PAC has taken on a critical supporting role for the Trump campaign, according to its independent expenditure filings, which cover some spending beyond September 30. Tuesday’s filings show other conservative billionaires also plowing extraordinary sums into the effort to reelect Trump. Another leading pro-Trump super PAC, Restoration PAC, also reported a huge haul from a single major donor. Meanwhile, the Congressional Leadership Fund – the main super PAC supporting House Republicans – hauled in more than $81 million in the third quarter.

Former President Donald Trump said Sunday that if elected he would ask Congress to pass legislation boosting the number of border patrol agents — several months after he thwarted a bipartisan measure that included staffing increases. Trump this year opposed a bipartisan measure that was the most aggressive border security bill in decades, one that would have imposed measures aimed at cutting the number of border crossings and tightening asylum rules. "That’s why he killed the bipartisan border bill that would’ve secured the border, despite the fact that it was endorsed by the Border Patrol," Corridoni said in a statement. Trump announced his plan to beef up border security shortly after members of the National Border Patrol Council, the labor union for Border Patrol agents and staff members, joined him onstage to voice their support for him. The report sheds light on the tight limits the White House imposed on the FBI as it undertook a “supplemental” background investigation while Kavanaugh’s confirmation hung in the balance. The White House finally told the official that it would be in touch it if had additional guidance to offer on the supplemental investigation.
