Two stocks have outperformed the S & P 500 every November when elections have been held over the past three decades — regardless of the outcome, according to a CNBC Pro study. Electrical and industrials giant Eaton Corporation and Sweden's second-largest lender, Svenska Handelsbanken , are the two stocks that beat the U.S. benchmark in November every election year. CNBC Pro screened for stocks currently in the MSCI World Index that gained more than the S & P 500 — or lost less than the index — in November of every election year since 1988. Every time is different Historical performance is never a guarantee of future performance, and stocks often move for idiosyncratic reasons. This year, for instance, the Federal Reserve is expected to announce a decision on interest rates on Thursday, which could also influence the trajectory of stocks.

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Tuesday lamented rising bond yields' effect on the market, saying this action could narrow the rally to tech and diminish broader sector gains. Some on Wall Street were expecting bond yields to decline after the Federal Reserve issued a hefty 50-basis-point cut and indicated there would be more to come over the next several months. Cramer said investors are drawn back to tech stocks as higher rates complicate the growth narratives for economically sensitive corners of the market. In recent months, investors were hoping that lower borrowing costs would help companies — such as those in the industrial sector and other housing-related areas — see an increase in business and, by extension, their stock prices. "If [the bond market] doesn't stop its retreat, then we're going to start questioning the idea that the Fed will keep cutting rates, ushering in a fabulous economy for 2025," Cramer said.

Israel’s Knesset opened its winter session on Monday against a backdrop of war in Gaza and Lebanon and after an Israeli strike on Iran on Saturday. UNRWAThe Knesset was set to debate on Monday bills that would make it illegal for Israeli officials to cooperate with UNRWA, the main U.N. agency that aids Palestinians. The bills would effectively shut down the agency’s work in Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem within 90 days. According to the Jerusalem Post, the first bill states that UNRWA could no longer operate in Israel, while the second would abrogate the treaty that underpins the relationship between UNRWA and Israel. The Knesset has already voted in favor of advancing the bill and it is being prepared for a second and third reading.

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Monday suggested that home improvement retailer Home Depot acts as a secular and cyclical stock, able to both grow independently of the business cycle and flourish when the economy is doing well. "The company's secular characteristics carry it through the cyclical pain, so even if the Fed doesn't move with alacrity to cut rates, Home Depot will still win." Lower interest rates tend to improve the housing market, which normally bodes well for housing-related stocks like Home Depot. "Now you could argue that this is an unusual moment, but historically, it's actually not that unusual for Home Depot," he said. "There's a boom and bust portion of the business, but for most of that period since 1981, it kept growing regardless."

We can see the cup-with-handle pattern developing on the daily chart, consisting of a six-month rounded bottoming pattern followed by a brief pullback in the month of October. The key to a cup with handle pattern is the "rim" of the cup, which is essentially a trendline connecting the highs during the price pattern. Other indicators on the chart seem to suggest that an impending breakout is likely, especially the RSI which has been in a bullish range since July of this year. Similar to the daily chart, we can see the weekly RSI has been in a bullish range for the last five years. This continued bullish momentum range suggests a bullish secular trend, reinforcing the upside potential represented on the daily chart.

The U.S.-based cleric Fethullah Gulen, who built a powerful Islamic movement in Turkey and beyond but spent his later years mired in accusations of orchestrating an attempted coup against Turkish leader Reccep Tayyip Erdogan, has died. Since the failed coup, his movement has been systematically dismantled in Turkey and its influence has declined internationally. Soon after the 2016 coup, Erdogan described Gulen’s network as traitors and “like a cancer”, vowing to root them out wherever they are. The Turkish government said its actions were justified by the gravity of the threat posed to the state by the coup. Gulen had travelled to the United States for medical treatment but remained there as he faced a criminal investigation in Turkey.

Religion is making a rare appearance on the campaign trail this week in a presidential election that has dwelled less on candidates’ personal faith than any in recent memory. Vice President Kamala Harris is planning to attend services and speak at the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church outside Atlanta on Sunday, while her running mate, Minnesota Gov. And Harris and Trump, along with their running mates, have complicated religious backgrounds that are harder to “sell” politically than Biden’s familiar Catholicism, he said. “I grew up in the Black church,” Harris told radio host Charlamagne tha God last week when a pastor asked about partnering with faith communities. “If you are not comfortable talking about religion, it really shows, so it makes sense not to,” said Faggioli.
