Is it just me, or did Kevin McCarthy look a little rough around the edges on Tuesday when announcing his decision to open an impeachment investigation into President Biden? I realize that Mr. McCarthy, the House speaker, needed to convey a dignified solemnity on such an occasion. But in his brief appearance, Mr. McCarthy came across not so much as serious and statesmanlike but as if the words were being dragged from his lips. That it has finally sunk in that he has become the not-so-glorified puppet of the House Republican conference’s radicals, folks like Dan Bishop, Chip Roy and, most prominently, Matt Gaetz. Mr. McCarthy may wield the gavel.

I'm a smug 30-year-old journalist who grew-up (mostly) computer literate. It wasn't enough to stop me from giving my credit card information to a USPS smishing scam. I then opened it on my laptop so I could click around and make sure it was actually the USPS. In this economy, the winner is weather apps
  + stars: | 2023-07-18 | by ( Sirena Bergman | ) www.businessinsider.com   time to read: +3 min
Weather apps are tech's sleeper hit. The Guardian is rather boldly reporting that weather apps have become an "addiction." At best, weather apps "perform about as well as meteorologists, but some of the most popular ones fare much worse," Charlie Warzel recently wrote in The Atlantic. Still, there's a weather app for everyone: Sassy weather apps, irreverent weather apps, fashion-conscious weather apps, practical weather apps, and aesthetic weather apps. A weather app can use US government data (and many do, The Guardian reported) which is free to use for any purpose, according to the National Weather Service's website.

CNN —When I first heard about the film “Joy Ride,” an unabashedly raunchy comedy about four Asian American friends and their misadventures in China, I couldn’t contain my excitement. Regina Kim Courtesy Regina KimIt felt exactly like the kind of movie that the Asian American community had been waiting for. To be perfectly honest, after going to a screening of “Joy Ride,” it took me two days to fully process what I’d seen. Perhaps I was so startled because I wasn’t used to seeing Asian Americans — especially Asian American women — depicted like this. I’m hoping that more people will realize that Asian American women can be sassy, outspoken, hilarious, weird or all of the above — but, most importantly, that we, too, are human.

Weekly orders this year now average 26 as the strike by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) halted many film and TV productions, Elyea said. Florists, caterers, costume suppliers and others have seen orders dwindle as many are still recovering from disruptions caused by COVID-19. No new talks are scheduled between major Hollywood studios and the writers, who are seeking higher pay and guardrails around the use of artificial intelligence. The strike's impact would be magnified if the SAG-AFTRA actors union also goes on strike when its contract expires on Friday. "Now, there's the writers' strike, and we're losing the movies that have been so good to us."

In Oakland, Calif., in 1968, Huey P. Newton, the Black Panther leader, was convicted of killing a white police officer. In 1971, after two more trials and nearly two years in prison, he was cleared of all charges. That’s the question at the heart of “This Land Was Made,” the gutsy but murky new play by Tori Sampson at the Vineyard Theater. Most successful is the sitcom element, which could be titled “Trish’s,” an Oakland bar where everybody knows your name. When a friend makes a joke at your expense or lobs a "playful" insult your way, it can be hard to know how to proceed. Acting as if the comment didn't offend you could invite more of the like, but refuting it might result in conflict or, at least, discomfort. It's in situations like these that Harvard-trained etiquette expert Sara Jane Ho shines. She prides herself on knowing what to say and how to say it, even in situations as uncomfortable as a friend putting you down. If you find yourself on the receiving end of a sassy remark, you can counter it with kindness and class with just one question.

Grant was arrested for speeding on his horse-drawn carriage in Washington, DC, which was highlighted by the Washington Post back in 2018 as Trump's legal woes were growing. Grant apparently had a penchant for speeding and a love for fast horses and had more than one run-in with West. West replied, "I want to inform you, Mr. President, that you are violating the law by speeding along this street. "I cautioned you yesterday, Mr. President, about fast driving, and you said, sir, that it would not occur again," West reportedly told Grant.
A Twitter user claimed GPT-4 saved their dog's life after they asked it to diagnose her symptoms. GPT-4 made a diagnosis from blood work and test results, and another vet said it was right. Per his tweets, Cooper told GPT-4, which is currently available through ChatGPT Plus, that his dog had a high fever and that blood work from the vet indicated anemia. They told the AI that the vet diagnosed the dog with babesiosis and inputted two sets of blood work results from that day. After asking the second vet if IMHA could be a possible diagnosis, the vet agreed, Cooper wrote.

Several businesses specializing in selling lingerie through livestreaming have had their sessions cut short after they featured a female model and their brush with internet censorship came to light in January. A man poses in a white dress and robe set posted on Chinese video-sharing platform Douyin on December 17, 2022. The emergence of male lingerie models has caused mixed views online in China, from merriment and annoyance to reluctant acceptance. Male models are not the only workaround. Even outside of China, platforms such as Facebook and Instagram have faced criticism for restricting the sharing of images involving partial nudity, especially of women.
