AdvertisementAdvertisementArcheologists have recreated the possible face of Peru's famous mummy — a teenage girl believed to have been sacrificed in an Inca ritual to the gods more than 500 years ago in the Andes. "I thought I'd never know what her face looked like when she was alive," Reinhard told The Associated Press. Oscar Nilsson, the Swedish archeologist and sculptor, told The AP he spent about 400 hours of work on modeling Juanita's face. REUTERS/Ros Postigo Acquire Licensing RightsAREQUIPA, Peru, Oct 24 (Reuters) - The reconstructed head and torso of a young girl likely sacrificed to appease Incan gods was unveiled in Peru on Tuesday, with three-dimensional scans of her mummy helping produce the lifelike recreation more than 500 years after her death. But some time before then, the girl was sacrificed by a blow to the head, possibly in a ritual ceremony that sought divine relief from natural disasters, according to the scientists. It includes colorful attire, head covering and adornments, similarly based on the scans of the mummy. "Seeing her face like when she was alive, it's a different experience because it seems so real," he said. Exercise or medication: Which is best for depression?

What the research showsWhich treatment option works best partly depends on personal perceptions or preferences, including a person’s motivation to exercise or concern about potential side effects of a medication, experts said. For people with severe depression, exercise alone typically isn’t enough. Some experts also wonder which exercise is best for patients who benefit most from such physical activity, Schuch said. While exercise and medication are both viable options, it’s important to note that “none will work for all patients,” Schuch said. If you’re thinking of trying to alleviate depression with fitness, know “the time it takes for someone to experience relief from depression through exercise can vary widely,” Choi said.

SANTA MARIA, Calif. (AP) — Authorities rescued a 17-year-old boy in Southern California after he was kidnapped and held hostage for four days by captors who threatened to harm him if his family did not pay a $500,000 ransom. The teen was rescued Friday after law enforcement tracked him and his three kidnappers to a motel in Santa Maria, a city about 140 miles (225 kilometers) northwest of downtown Los Angeles. The men repeatedly called her over the four days and threatening to harm her son if the family did not pay. Law enforcement used a Facebook Marketplace posting and the doorbell camera footage to track the victim and the suspects to Santa Maria. The first known hybrid between a pampas fox and a domestic dog was discovered in Brazil. Her father was a domestic dog of an unspecified breed. AdvertisementAdvertisementThe dog-fox resembles both a dog and a fox and shares characteristics with both animals, scientists said. Other names suggested for the animal were "graxorra" and "dogxim," which reference the Portuguese names for the pampas fox and female dog. This type of hybridization can threaten wildlife conservation due to risks of introgression and disease transmission by the dog, the study said.

Since bursting onto the scene nearly two decades ago with her first novel about her experience working in a call center, a novel that later inspired a popular film, Michela Murgia had become a public persona — and a lightning rod for political debate in Italy. A novelist, intellectual and civil rights campaigner, she was an outspoken critic of the country’s rightward shift at a time when its left-wing parties appeared to have lost their voice, and a feminist and civil rights champion urging acceptance of nontraditional family configurations in a nation in which the governing parties have promoted a more conservative vision. Before she died, on Thursday at age 51, she told her friends that she wanted her funeral to be open to everyone. Many hundreds heeded her invitation. They came from all walks of life — a retired banker, a hotel employee, a translator, students — to honor “a symbol of freedom and feminism whose words should be transformed into action,” said Maria Luisa Celani, who works in the arts and was one of many gathered outside the Basilica of Santa Maria in Montesanto, known as “the church of the artists,” in Rome’s central Piazza del Popolo, for the funeral.

Venice is so congested that it has become the embodiment of overtourism. Yet visiting Venice doesn’t always require taking what Italians call “un bagno di folla” — a bath in the crowd. The city offers plenty of fascinating attractions spared from the congestion, in fact, some of them could use more visitors. Here are some ways travelers can minimize the inconveniences even while visiting the most popular sites. “It’s not crowded, and there’s so much to enjoy,” said Cinzia Trevisan, co-founder of Venice Guides for Sustainable Tourism.

In the below chart, "early adopters" refers to the 13 aforementioned metros, excluding the Bay Area metros. Brookings' Muro said that he expects many generative AI jobs to be in-person some or all of the time.

In the best of examples, it can look to the future as well. But in the last decade or so, a small group of winemakers have focused intently on the region’s past. In short: They are producing some of the most exciting wines in the world. But the industry has been declining since the 1980s as consumers in Britain, the biggest market for inexpensive sherry, began to lose interest in those mediocre sweet wines. Many producers went out of business and the land planted to vines dwindled from roughly 70,000 acres to around 15,000.

A new paper that analyzed data from 41 studies found that exercise had a big effect on depression. Researchers found that exercise improved depression symptoms at least as much as other treatments. They said that exercise should be offered as "an evidence-based treatment option" for patients. Aerobic exercise and resistance training had big effects on reducing depression symptoms, the authors noted, as did supervised and group exercises of "moderate intensity." A 2018 study published in JAMA Psychiatry found that strength training can help treat depression just as well as aerobic exercise.

The new measures would freeze the nearly 110,000 officially registered "tourist homes" in Portugal, according to Spanish newspaper El Pais.
